  • This follow-up video compares the slow timebase performance of the two popular scopemeters. There are some key implementation differences between the Hantek 2D72 and OWON HDS272S. I also discussed some of the limitations of these scopemeters have in common due to the relatively short memory depth.

Please turn off "Stable Volume" in the video playback setting (the first menu item after clicking the gear icon) as for some reason, this new TH-cam playback feature made the video much noisier than usual.

The Owon can be switched from "Sample" to "Peak Detect" mode in the "HOR" menu. As far as I can tell, that runs the ADC at full speed, allowing it to capture short pulses on slow timebases. I've tried it on mine and it happily captures 20ns pulses (as short as my func gen goes) on the 500ms/div timebase. The Hantek may be the same but I don't have one to test.

Lots of good scope nuggets of info here..(besides the specifics you noted). Repetition breeds confidence. Thank you!

Thank you! That was the missing piece of information I needed. My old Hantek DSO8060 have the same issue as this new one on slow time base, probably it'll never be fixed. At least OWON is totally OK on roll mode. Thanks Kerry!

I'm using the hantek and got that same problem and seems I did not see any firmware updates.

Have you ever done firmware updates on these Hantek scopes? Mine is kind of glitchy and was wondering if a firmware update could fix the glitch's.

So, if I'm understanding your conclusion right, that means neither scope could detect a very narrow pulse with a time period shorter than the sampling rate, at all?

you need to change the triggering using the AUTO button - same as on the Hank

Please tell me if you know. Is there a roll mode in the OWON XDS 3000 series?

What better Hantek 2c10 or Owon Hds2102 (hds272)?

Juha Korpela posted a video that seems to suggest you can manually override the HDS's slow time base from roll mode: yrrt7kktDaU
