Great commentary from a fan that's passionate about film as the technical appreciation. You remind us that movies are not produced for demo reels, they exist to enhance the drama and storytelling. Great work!
Watched Roma last weekend on Netflix partly on your recommendation. The 4K and Atmos were superb. Some great placement of dialogue when characters are off camera and water whooshes all around you at start and near the end. Sounded great even on my soundbar and Atmos up firing surrounds. Also bought Ambulance on Regular Blu-ray as it carries an Atmos track.
Excellent video! Whenever I listen to one of Dolby's own Atmos demo discs I always have the same thought: Movies *never* sound this good! By way of extreme simplification, the demo discs tend towards subtlety, the movies tend towards cacophonous volume. That's a huge generalisation on my part, of course, but fundamentally: You absolutely don't need high volume for a great sound mix.
Really appreciate this list - I’m a true Atmos lover and have quite the set up myself and am always looking for films that make good use of Atmos. Sadly not enough films do it and even if they have an Atmos mix, it doesn’t mean it’s a a good one. I know all the “typical films” so it was nice to see a list of others that I had no idea would would have such a great Atmos mix. I’m excited to check some of these out. I do have Doctor Sleep and can agree it’s a great Atmos mix. You got a new sub from me just from seeing this one vid. Well done!
Wonderful list. Ambulance and Rogue Nation are spot on picks. Really enjoy your content and sharing your enjoyment of Atmos content with family and friends. I'm impressed with your wife's knowledge of what to listen for and that she picks out the audio differences.
Another underrated movie is 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi from middle to end. Bombs, missiles, RPG's, bullets flying by omgggg. One scene where an RPG flies by your ear and impacts HARD. This is my top 5 for bass and effects. I definitely will be picking Wrath of Man this week.
Fright Night (1985) 4K Blu-ray has unreal Atmos for an 80s movie. Best scene is when Jerry Dandrige lands on Charlie's roof with a thunderous slam and then the footsteps panning from height channel to height channel. It sounds so real it's like someone is actually walking on your roof.
I have to agree with doctor sleep.. no one talks about it, but is one of the first few movies I saw on my home theatre and it blew my mind (surround sound).. I felt similar for resident evil raccoon city as well
The sound that really stood out to me in Roma was the hospital scene. It really made me feel like I was in the chaos and definitely upped the emotional impact of not only what happened in that scene but also the hardship of Cleo’s life and even the political turmoil in the city. I also love-love the Nessun Dorma scene in MI5. The opera is such a unique backdrop for a suspenseful scene in an action movie and makes for a very unorthodox listening experience. And the way the climax in the music lines up with the action really sends it over the top. Good picks!
Roma has an amazing atmos track, i think is one of the most immersive if not the best atmos track i have heard, movie might not be the best one, but the audio is incredible. I remember one scene when i think the girl is going upstairs and you can hear her going up to the right, you can hear the footsteps from center to right top
Thanks for asum content as usual 🙂. So happy everytime new videos comes out and that have been more now for some week 🙏🙂. Keep up the good work ,u rock . Greetings from Sweden
I just got my new "Ferrari" Blu-Ray today for my rarely used, old Blu-Ray player. How do I get the volume on for the movie? The previews have volume but not the movie. Thanks
The opera track is called "Nessun Dorma", many millennials will probably also remember it as an upbeat techno track called "Vincero" released by Swedish singer Fredrik Kempe in 2002.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Here’s a video tour of my whole setup. Thanks for watching! Dolby Atmos 9.2.4 home theater update th-cam.com/video/qWwRBql9iYM/w-d-xo.html
Side question: Do I need to revisit The Shining in order to watch Doctor Sleep? I ask because the last time I watched The Shining was wayyy back when I was kid and I barely remember it.
If I may suggest something it would be to keep the mic lower at table height below the screen and add at least 10dB treble to the EQ of the mic. It is too much puff sounds into the mic and the lack of treble are very different from all others and makes the sound muffled and harder to hear. Great suggestions for movies though.
IMO, The Incredible Hulk on 4K is the best Demo for Clarity, Depth and Power. I think it's even better than Ambulance, Ready Player One and Mission Impossible
Just rewatched Doctor Sleep for the third or fourth time last night, and yes, the sound is great, especially that ominous bass. It's actually one of my favorite horror movies. If you watch the Director's Cut version, the title makes a lot more sense. Although it has Atmos, there is unfortunately no 4K version of the director's cut on disc, just Blu-ray - still looks great, though.
Dude, Doctor Sleep is not a poor name choice by the film producers, that’s literally the name of the 2013 book by Stephen King lol but yeah, it’s a great movie with a great Atmos track.
I’ve wondered what name they could have changed it to instead of Doctor Sleep that would help people understand its relationship to The Shining. The Shining 2 is about the best my unimaginative brain could come up with haha. Thanks for watching!

Here's another one for you - Christine. The rain was amazing. The feel. I can't explain it unless you've seen it.

watched Roma last night. DAMN. sorry but even top gun maverick and blade runner 2049 had nothing on that. uses surrounds every single frame it can.
The sound engineer(s) on that one deserves some kind of award.
Fury, Hacksaw Ridge, San Andreas just to name a few of movies with great atmos tracks.
Those are all great Atmos films 👍
Great video! What’s your setup? Processor, amp and speakers?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Here’s a video tour of my whole setup. Thanks for watching!

Yes, you should definitely watch The Shining again. Doctor Sleep will make much more sense if you do. Plus, it’s a classic film that must be seen.
Also, the 4K of the Shining is absolutely incredible.
This is such a great way to share scenes! If I could make one suggestion? List the time code of the scene you're watching. Thanks for the content!!
Thanks for the suggestion! I will make that change in future videos. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoy it!
@@GeorgeTheaterAtHome of course brotha. Keep the content comin 👍🏽

I’ve got some more 4K related videos on the schedule. Thanks for watching!
Thank you the demo and the info for the Dolby Atmos films 🎥 👍🏼👊🏼🏴🇬🇧
Thanks for watching!
@@GeorgeTheaterAtHome You’re welcome 🏴🇬🇧
Last Night in Soho also has demo worthy sound. A great list you came up with.
IMO, The Incredible Hulk on 4K is the best Demo for Clarity, Depth and Power. I think it's even better than Ambulance, Ready Player One and Mission Impossible
The one with Edward Norton?
@@GeorgeTheaterAtHomeYes! The end fight scene and the mid movie action scene when he busts through the glass…
It’s perfection.
Thanks I’ll check it out
Is wrath of man dolby atmos on the disk as the streaming sites have it in 5.1. cheers
Atmos is on the 4K disc.
Completely agree on Roma.
Nice work
Great video!!! Subbed!!!!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it!
Knowing has a really good Atmos track.

I'm perfectly happy with Dolby Atmos 3.1.2.
What kind of soundbar do you use?
@@VirgoKing1987 I don't use a sound bar for 3.1.2.
Roma Blu Ray or Netflix 4K you refer to?
I listened to the Atmos track on the disc. Thanks for watching!
