Makes you wonder how well the service was done, worth checking when its bad outside and you have to stay in the van especially in the places awkward to get to and out of sight.
Understanding the condition of any used motorhome is essential, especially, if you are buying for the first time. We all have different ideas we need layouts berths etc. But, damp, and water ingress can be on in any motorhome hence damp meter an excellent idea to start with
Only if there is significant damp! Don't forget a damp meter is a dealers best and worst enemy. There is nothing worse than finding damp in your own stock and having to pay potentially thousands to repair.
Let's say you had damp at 50%.. and it got missed on a check, how long would you say before major problems - or is a few months at 50% long enough to sponge wood?
If it’s at 50% and has been missed, it probably is going to continue to leak if it hasn’t been resealed at least so logic says it could worsen. It’s amazing how often damp is missed, or sometimes “hidden” because it’s the selling dealer that is retesting it.
Maybe a dog trained to detect damp might be a solution that makes sense and worth its weight in Gold to a dealer despite the cost of training and feeding which might be tax deductible ! I do come up with some funny ideas looooooool
I think there is some mixed messages re aluminium. There is far more to Bailey construction than the outer shell, my Lunar is also aluminium. Why suggest that testing the inside wall is useless if the outer shell is aluminium. No suggestion if the cheaper unit is any good for home use. Sorry. just too much wrong with this.
Sorry you only showed 99% example which would not test compare the cheapest of meters. Showing a checks at 15,-20% on different background materialswould have been a lot more convincing. If you paid out all that money for occasional use you are going to favour that one!.
You only spoke of the comparison measurements. You never showed them to the camera as proof, like all the other videos people do. For all we know you could be getting paid by protometer to make this. So I'm not convinced to take your word for it.... Sorry
Hi Darren, we create videos to help our viewers and we don’t get paid to promote products. We show what we use and how we do it. Great video. Really informative for someone like me looking to buy his first motorhome.

I now know why dealers use the protometer ... It nearly always reads 99.9%!

Maybe a good time to check is probably end of Sept after we've had some rain and try to seal the problem early.
I'd be checking monthly if it was mine Mark. Rain happens every month over here.
When are you planning to put that swift to auction i wish you would name price you would accept
Hi Tom, We wouldn't retail something like this ourselves without the work being done. Kind regards, Shane
I was told a average damp meter reading was between 10% and 15% is this wright i would of thought it would be zero
That sounds about right Ivan. Wood is/was a living thing, so you expect a small amount of moisture.
The traders call swifts made “soggy Swifts” and dont for get the leaky lunars, stay away from them

Hi, have you used the Extech more since you posted this video? If so would you still recommend it? Thanks
Hi Jonathon. It will take me a lot to move away from the Protimeter. Shane
I suppose a guard dog that detects damp might be an idea.
That's me!
I wonder why there was so many baileys on the market
It isn't limited to Baileys unfortunately, 5 years ago I could have named a few failsafe makes, but I can't anymore 👎🏽
