Heartfelt observations of a time that none who lives his/her 3 score plus 10 years (and more), escapes. ❤ My mother-in-law told me, just a few weeks before she died, that she had awoken in the early hours of the morning and got up to fetch a glass of water. She was truly startled to see an old woman at the end of the passage, until she realised it was her own reflection in the full length mirror. She laughed about it in the telling. She said she’d never felt old. My father-in- law told me that life, from the perspective of youth, stretches ahead, forever - from the perspective of old age, looking back across the years, it’s over in a flash. Your poem triggered both of these memories. I think old age comes with a beauty of its own ❤
