Not to many Corps matched the pure power of Madison in their prime. You couldn't help get Goose bumps especially with the Latin tunes. They were hard charging in your face WOW!!!!
LISTEN to the crowd reactions ... and THIS is ONLY the opener ... find the closer, and figure out who is louder, the corps or the crowd ... AND THEY PLAY AND MOVE THE WHOLE TIME!!!!! THIS. IS. DRUM. CORPS. THIS. IS. WHAT. FILLS. MY. DREAM. The title of this clip IS correct.
That’s some serious drill. No matter what drama anyone wants to throw at different eras, we can all agree that performances like this shape and inform all that’s come after it. Everybody wins.
I miss the simplicity of no props, no cell phones, no voice overs. Just wow with drill and the music. No crouching down and pelvic twists and scattered tattered costumes. Pure drum corps, pure talent and showmanship
What a breath of fresh air. Nothing to "figure out" here. No explanations or quirky little titles to pontificate on. No spandex. Head gear worn. Nice drill. In your face drum corps yet musical at the same time. All done without huge props that get in the way. No electronics or microphones. No voiceovers. Just DRUM & BUGLE. This is what drew me in years ago to march D.C.I. It was different from my band experience. High school bands did not try and imitate this because they could not. Now there seems to be no definite distinction between quote "drum corps" and BOA Bands.
I mean, you marched in 1980 right? They are people from those years that would've argued that this isn't real drum corps because there's a front ensemble :/ So what exactly is the difference between you now and them then? Each generation of performers has their own version of "real drum corps"-- to somebody somewhere, the show you did wasn't real drum corps either. It's okay to have preferences, but you should learn to appreciate each era for what it is and not what you want it to be
Moreover, there are still some shows like this e.g. Crown 2019. Sure, it's dressed up to appeal to judges with some props and funky uniforms, but for the most part, it's in your face, loud, on the move drum corps + a company front in the closer
@@echo2121 I absolutely agree. I was introduced to drum corps with the current modern style and I love it, but at the same time I still appreciate shows of the past that are a bit different as well. In regards to what the op says about the lack of distinction between drum corps and BOA bands, they're so similar now because its the same top 12 corps staff members who work at these great high schools. Furthermore, its the same drum corps judges judging these band competitions. DCI and BOA have so many similarities because they're being taught, designed, and judged by the same people in the same way. The only difference I notice is drum corps extremely technical passages are just a bit cleaner than the high schools and the BOA time limit is significantly slower, but other than that the only difference real difference is instrumentation and time of year.
@@echo2121 Yeah I'm not really happy w/ the electronics but I still have a good time. I mainly come for the brass so when I hear reverb in the speakers...ugh. I enjoy most the corps that don't use electronics to enhance the sound or whatever they do w/ it. Even w/ the stuff that I don't like, it's still such an amazing activity to see. I think any musician can identify w/ the result of so much long, hard work....despite the things that you don't like. With all that said, yup I'm defo a big Crown fan haha :)
Modern drum corps is so esoteric it's no wonder the activity is dying. Corps in the 90s and early 2000s had very simple through lines, easy to understand. Even Star 93 didn't need narration and microphones.
Star 93 definitely had a theme, but it wasn't a show about anything other than the music itself. Although, when I researched about the original story of Medea, I drew some parallels to that what they did with that show (basically them taking vengeance on DCI)
This show was incredible. I saw it several times on tour and the sopranos were just mind blowing

Best show EVER
Except for 1988 Scouts … that version of Malagueña made Arrowhead rock like it was a Chiefs game
One of my favorite openers. This is what Drum Corps is all about.

for real. that great sound and they're moving like that. Crazy

This show, more than any other, is what inspired me to march drum corps. Thank you Scouts and thank you Southwind for enriching my life.
RIP Southwind
wish the crowd was still like this i would have been LOCKED TF IN on the field if i did dci in 90s
Favorite field show of all time!!!
When this show was 4th place and a 3 way tie for high brass, you know 95 was a good year!!

Cell phones?
Bruh!

@@echo2121, not to mention that this corps has.............3 valves. Oh, the horror!
I was there. This entire show was absolute fire.
*Uma performance que cresceu ao longo dos anos e vem ficando cada vez melhor*
I love it.
Wow 😮 speechless
The entire weekend was awesome in Buffalo. And I got to see Niagara Falls!
This is an OPENER!
That’s not a hornline. That’s a HOSS line
Nice
drum corps has come a long way since this time! It went from blowing and going to more musical and theatrical, and I love both forms!
Finally, a comment that compliments the past while not overly criticizing the present. Thank you

This was the show I recommended to Courtney Coulston to attract more fans to DCI.
Courtney Colston attracts my eyeballs :D
go on....
Who did this (can't remember the name of it) better: 1995 Madison Scouts or 1982 Sky Ryders?
El Toro Caliente
NO comparison … Madison, Madison, MADISON!!!
Summer 1995 in Houston Texas at Rice Stadium...🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴
Could flip flop the opener with the closer and it'd still work.
Minimal props, no goofy uniforms, not a cellphone in sight. Just a corps living in the moment
My favorite show of a corps I did not march
Who’d you march for?
@@duston1649 Spirit of Atlanta 91,92, Carolina Crown 93
The cabalieros saund of music but in the pilipinas Caballero saund of daanghari dbc in navotenio pilipinas dbc but this is dci
