    Australia lost our qualification streak. Would've been 8 if Montaigne didn't nq. Was a shame because she had a chance in 2020 and she wasn't even able to attend Eurovision in 2021.

    • @BecauseEurovision
      @BecauseEurovision  ปีที่แล้ว +94

      She was incredibly unlucky. Montaigne had a great song, but was in a very competitive semi-final, was not performing the song live and also had to rely on a 1-month old performance of it. Others had at least a month more to finesse vocals and performance. Really unfortunate :( But it was a great track and no one can deny that Australia has been incredibly successful since their debut :)

      Honourable mentions to:
      The UK (Five first-place finishes, and *sixteen* second-place finishes, but mostly useless since competition ramped up… although things are looking up somewhat)
      Italy (very consistent, especially after their hiatus, some big breakthroughs into the mainstream too)

      @@BecauseEurovision thanks! I thought it would be fun to be able to see “oh this one came 25th they almost lost the streak or something”. Now that I say it, the semi placement maybe would’ve been even better.

      Qualification streak is not the same thing as an appearance in the Grand Final. Qualifications for each country are counted since 2004 (after Semi-Finals were introduced) except those years/editions when a country was an automatic qualifier.

      No, before Anna's NQ the continuous streak lasted from 1977-2009. Sweden did not participate in 1964, 1970 and 1976.
