I've had a Wavestate for about 3 years. I also borrowed an Opsix for a couple of months.
About 3 months ago I bought an Opsix SE and I love it to bits. The gorgeous keyboard complete with aftertouch takes the Opsix to a new level - as others have said, it's a player's synth.
And now I've ordered a Wavestate SE....

Yea man, listening back to this Synth, I realize how incredible it sounds. It definitely has it's own unique flavour.

Anyone who ever owned and knew their way around a Korg Triton will tell you that there's no significant difference with the Wavestate, except that the storage memory is higher and the patches/performances have modern sounds/rhythms to it. Also the aftertouch is a welcomed addition (not polyphonic aftertouch tho) and last but not least.. the price is almost the same as a Polybrute (entirely different philosophy, I know) or even an Iridium, but I wouldn't throw my money to a modernized Triton.. better stick to the wavestate mk I.

I've played with wavestate native quite a bit, and I have to agree. It sounds just like a Triton. It's a lot of fun to mess around with, but the sound is a little too "plasticky" in my opinion.

They could have made a larger screen for this synth

      That’s true

Bigger screen and a multi track sequencer and this would have instantly felt like a good bargain for the heftier price point. Well, maybe in SE mark 2 (with added polyprophony) 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have a preorder on one of these and I am having second thoughts. I have the original WaveStation A/D and I came to *hate* the rhythmic wave sequencing and used it mainly for evolving pads using the old VS waveforms and vector synthesis. If they had put the Prologue analog filter on this, it would be a no-brainer.

I'm thinking about this too for evolving pads but may just use a sampler on computer for that.

Hi Emlyn, it is hard to of course show the quality of the keybed, but how would it compare e.g. to the Oberheim OBX8 (is fantastic!) or the Novation Summit (is great). The aftertouch travel on the Summit is good and soft. Is the keyboard stiff? or does it have soft aftertouch travel? Any comments appreciated! I am asking because of doubt to get this premium keyboard version or keep my Novation Summit as master keyboard and get a Wavestate module. Thx!

Would you say that the keys are the same as on the Prologue or even better.

I believe you can have up to 64 waves going at the same time.

The issue I have with wavestate is the lack of quantization when changing chords when I'm playing a rhythm/style consisting of 2-3 layers that I want to have on the left hand and on the right side of the split keyboard to have a sound for solo ect.. The hold button doesn't help that the sounds keep playing on the previous chord as well as the next one in many cases. Also with the hold button on, when you let go of your left hand and try to play a solo with your right hand, then what was playing on the left side stops playing so the left hand must always stay on the keyboard. If someone has a solution that I haven't discovered I would be very grateful because wavestate is really a synthesiser that I love.

I didn’t hear anything compelling that I couldn’t accomplish another way. The sounds are meh. That’s a hard pass.

A hard pass based on presets 🤣
