The African Cup is different from the World Championship because the stakes are different. Mané is the center of this team. He is the backbone. The fact that he was not there must have caused a big lack of concentration and cohesion during this World Cup. These players were surely under pressure. Now it's different. Just look at their great victory against Brazil in a friendly match. They prove that if they go to the World Cup with this team and this energy, they can perform better.
When England beat Senegal during that WC match, Senegal was lacking its 3 key players: Sadio Mané, Kouyaté (Nottingham Forest) and Gana Guèye (Everton).
Sadio isn’t the backbone since the World Cup, he’s ageing and it’s in Senegal interest to know how to win without him specially with all those quality young talents emerging
God knows how much I love Mané. But I really don't think he's actually the backbone of the team. Especially during this AFCON. That might be a good thing, as Senegal has one of the best team of the continent with many young talents. But in the other hand, I'd have liked to see Mané as the main man like CR7 and Messi for their respective teams. I watched his 1st 2 matches in this afcon and he was like any other random player there. 💀
