Interesting, I counted 177 band members for Arcadia and 221 for Eleanor Roosevelt this year. I never thought there would be another group larger than Arcadia!

Shout out to that guy (Tom Landes, if I'm not mistaken) who books it to remove that piece of metal that flew off the mace.

Thank you for the compliment! Honestly, yeah that seems to happen, we always feel so bad for our drum majors when they end up messing up during our band review when they've been doing amazing all season.

Isn't that type of costumes called cultural appropriation?

That is why I hate twirling drum majors. The only reason to have one of those is that in competition, a twirling drum major gets a bonus over the more traditional military drum major ala the Marine Corps band or any of the UK military bands. The rule should be changed to put the traditional drum major and the twirling type on equal footing. If Arcadia is going continue with a baton twirling drum major then go all out and mimic the Kyoto Tachibana S.H.S. Band and have everyone start dancing down the parade route. I marched in that band for three years. If the director, Ron Hoar, had brought in a twiller I would have quit the band.

@Keegan McCoy -- Not the judges but the rules that allocate additional points for a baton twirling drum major. I remember this discussion from Ron Hoar, Arcadia HS band director back in the 1960's. The rules were in effect back then and we had been edged out because of a baton twirler. Mr. Hoar having been in a Marine band was not thrilled about the possibility of us changing I think because it offended his sensibilities towards the position of drum major.
What is the purpose of the drum major? Order the band to march, mark time and halt. To show them where to march: forward, to the left, right, obliques and to the rear. To order music to play, which piece and when to stop. To maintain the beat, etc. Is any of this facilitated by a drum major tossing his baton into the air or twirling it behind his or her back?

@@Elias_jay - No, it is not a traditional drum major. I don't see the Marine Corps drum major or any English military drum majors twirling their staff. The rules changed in the late 60's or early 70's that gave extra points for twirling drum majors. That started the switch and it is only to stay competitive.

Nice music, well done. No marching trombones, you are welcome. _but_ the world is full with conflicts and we don’t need such a bunch of Zinnsoldaten and military behavior. Can you see the differences between your band and the Kyoto Tachibana S.H.S. Band. Remember the Woodstock Era. Many, many young American People lost their lives for the western world, for us, and finally wherefore? It‘s time for that the American School Bands should change their musical programs and choreography. Kind regards from germany, shalom 🇪🇺
