Ikr, I preferred KTL over this (and thanks to the awkward breakdown - which kinda reappeared in this song, it's definitely not my favorite song), but it doesn't change that typical Blackpink swagger about the song, I'll be repeating the hook to myself and probably anyone in my vicinity all day :)

Ain’t a blackpink song/teddy production without hardcore trap elements I feel like it’s truly a staple of production from teddy on every song he does hahaha. Lisa’s verse was 👌🏻 and the sound you mentioned was very reminiscent of boombayah to me so huzzah for the phrygian scale I guess 😂
But haters don't understand that it's blackpink signature. They all wanted new style from them they don't want those trap beats.
Wapa Kels thats unfortunately true. BP gets a lot of unnecessary hate because of their style in music. Though to be fair some diversification would be highly appreciated too, it’s kind of like when Twice gets bashed for having “cute” elements/concepts in their songs constantly when people don’t really seem to grasp its their signature

When you're a producer/beat-maker you can totally imagine how the song was made. Totally agree with your reaction/opinion! I don't really get why some people didn't like it. Well, we have our own taste in music. But for me this is the best blackpink song that was ever made so far! Y'all know that they are not just a typical kpop group now since they are already famous globally and YG is targeting it as well, what do you expect them to do, to make a cutesy song? To make a song similar to AIIYL, PWF, Whistle? If I were the producer of course I'll make sure that it will not sound like a typical kpop song but more with western style of music. Remember that this is a girl crush concept, it's a hip-hop. What do you expect for a hip-hop to sound like? 💁 If you're also a blackpink fan from the very beginning, these girls wants to have a hip-hop style of music, why y'all can just be happy for them. Making a song is not EASY as what you think! Shame on those hating TEDDY!

YES. I really don't understand why people find it underwhelming... To me it was an absolute banger! Maybe because some people are more sensitive to the changes I guess, especially the slide up notes in the chorus which was extremely sexy to me. To those hating on Teddy...he only co-wrote it! It was produced by four people. I hate how people keep comparing "structures". Music is about the expression, not counting how many times they chant the motif. PERIOD.

I think so many Blinks are just totally forgetting what YG is trying to achieve with Blackpink. They have reached this level of fame in the west (a market that has avoided kpop for so long) no Korean girl group ever has, and they've done this with that hard, edgy image that YG has always been good at. To expect them to compteley throw in a curveball and change this up for a softer image or a different genre is ridicilous. YG NEEDED to make sure the group continues to build on this look that makes them so unqiue. I have no doubt on the full album (if it ever gets here) we will have more a more diverse selection of genres, but for a pre-release single after such a long hiatus, How You Like That was exactly what it needed to be.

Thats true. People will expect BLACKPINK to go hard here. But i do understand people that wants a song like AIIYL. Though now that they dropped a VERY powerful song. They could go to their pink side now since people are quite hungry for that now than their black concepts. You can definitely hear the YG song structure in this song compared to some of their other groups as well. That bridge build up is similar to "Bang Bang Bang's by Big Bang, sort of to give the anthem-like vibes. I also thought the chorus had a Mino type vibe to it.

Great reaction! Honestly, when I first listened to the song, I was so hyped and it pulled through until the end of the song. I was really excited especially since I thought they were going to build up on the beat they used in Lisa and Jisoo's teasers, and they did! But when I listened to it a couple more times, I easily got tired of it. I realized that the song was not that special at all since it had the same form as the last two comebacks. The sounds were relatively new even though it stays in the same EDM genre as the previous two, but after that, I recognized that most of the hype I felt during the first listen was fueled by my 14 months of wait for a new release from them, and after a few listens, it didn't sound creative anymore. I could notice many simiarities between this and the previous comebacks (Boombayah, Ddu-du Ddu-du, Kill this Love, etc.) in terms of musical direction, and it just put me off. The production was top notch, but the song-writing and musical direction was too simple and unoriginal. I just hope in the next comeback BlackPink tries something new and not do a reboot of their old releases.

For me, its a great marketting strategy for teddys music for their main tracks. If you wanna see blackpinks other side, just listen to their B sides.. totally different.
U cant blame them because they might have comapared how stay (which is a great song) had small amount of views compared to dddd, ktl, hylt so of course u expect the agencyn to stick to what is selling. Thats why an album is really good for them because they can actually show other potential and colors to their b sides.

Much credit to Teddy Park and Co. However, per the track’s wiki, apparently R. Tee & 24 were the lead producers with Teddy & Danny Chung being the songwriters. I’m sure Teddy had creative input regarding musical production, but definitely have to recognize the main producers as well. Awesome production overall.
