TxSU got a nice size. They almost got 160 and every section is bigger except tubas. They can do damage this year. Not every band is gonna be 200 and sometimes, 200 has horn holders. 24 bones and 28 trumpets 😮

If this is the whole band which I think it is because they are for sure bigger than last year minus the tuba section. If this is the band they gonna have some problems against SU, JSU and maybe even PV and Alcorn. 🙏 for TSU, I expected them to be much bigger after the success of last year🤷🏾♂️
TSU’s issue isn’t their success and gaining numbers. Their issue is “tradition.” Traditionally they’ve only marched 4-company fronts on the field which is 128 members. Many of the Ocean Alumni still advocate for this tradition although I don’t, but I’m also not Ocean Alumni. Your comment makes it seem just because they had a solid year last year, means they should be bigger than last year, and that’s not how this band has ever worked.
@runwaycoach6442 5 company fronts for a good part of the 70s actually. 5 for 2001-2003 and again 2010s. 4-6 company front is what Prof Butler established.
From the number here, TSU did get bigger. Brian’s first year was 92 members, last year they marched their traditional 128, and here there are 158 horn members. If you go back and just look at everyone’s face though, they all suspiciously look SUPER young! I wouldn’t be surprised if the upperclassman (minus section leaders) sat out, which someone else in the comments pointed at band members sitting on the stairs of the auditorium. Also the number of Sousaphones look suspicious too! So I add that as another reason to expect more. Let’s just entertain the thought this is it. 158 means FIVE company fronts which is MORE THAN Their tradition of FOUR company fronts. A win! Now let’s entertain there are more that are not seen. I don’t imagine Brian going over SIX company fronts, which is about how many SU & JSU march (192) which would only mean about 34 or more are not pictured. Also A Win! (It could ALSO be more than 34 not seen here because they are not obligated to have the same number in the band also on the field.) A journalist on Twitter said Ocean were marching 240, and I didn’t buy that, but if they did, they would need that 192 number with the rest being Auxiliary. And SEVEN Company Fronts isn’t exciting, as seen by Bethune Cookman. I don’t necessarily advocate for 7 or more. All in all, I would LOVE a deep Ocean as an Alumnus, and can honestly say TSU looks a lot better and a lot deeper when they have 5 Company Fronts marching. I’ve gotten chills seeing 5 coming out the end zone before, so I’m not mad at this 158. I’m also open to surprises, Nonetheless, but if there are none, this is still better and bigger than we’ve had probably in the last 10 year. The last time I really seen Ocean over their traditional 128, is circa Katrina, and apparently that wasn’t by choice. As far as numbers, however? There’s nothing wrong with a climactic trajectory! They’re increasing! Maybe not in a MVSU way, but keep watching!
