When I was in Maui, I saw the locals fishing with balloons from the dollar store. They used the balloons as bobbers. The wind from behind them, kept pushing the balloons further and further away from the shore. They were able to bring in some pretty big fish without having to cast very far. They let the wind push the balloon and their bait several 100 yards off shore. :-)

better make sure your detach mechanism works flawlessly from lure to drone otherwise it could be expensive replacing your drone every time you go droning...i mean fishing

Well that is certainly a novel way of catching tuna. This technique would be great for the harpoon boats that fish for bluefin tuna. Some of them use a small airplane to spot the schools of bluefin tuna. Using the drone would be more efficient method of locating the tuna. The side benefit being is that you get great aerial footage of the fight with the fish.
Can't wait to see the video of 'Drone- killer v. Bluefin'. Isn't all this more efficient killing great?

I've been thinking of giving this a try sometime. Seeing you land that whopper off my local beach has given me more of an incentive.
I have one, it uses a sensor in front of the led lights to open and close the release, controlled by the hand controller

You are full of it. Clearly you have not seen footage from a drone or you would know you cant spy on people with the wide angle lens they use for landscape photography. A drone would have to be within inches of a person to get a close up.

I use a drone for a living and I use zoom lens but most dont so thats why I replied the way I did. If I was going to spy on people I would just walk up with an iPhone and take a shot. why would anyone want to look through your window? Grow up. You are an idiot.
Again my bad. I had no idea you speak on behalf of all drone users and can certify that none of them will outfit their drones (or can) with whatever gear they need to actually spy. And with my idiotic brain I never knew that using a drone to spy wouldn't offer any anonymity and convenience for perverts. I should have also known that each and every drone users are like you. What a snap, get the drone to fine a school, then drop a bait. Need a deep spool with heaps of line and a level wind. Good for tailor when their right out, like it. Looks like Red Rock.

Again if I was totally scared of losing it, I wouldn't do it at all. I have 2 of them and am definitely going to catch some fish. With that said water and electronics don't mix. Flown mine over the ocean numerous times, never fished with it

I don't understand why people that do not enjoy this or put negative comments on come on here and say stupid shit!?? Makes 0 sense to me. If it's not your cup of tea move on. No one asked for your negative opinion. This is a great idea, there is sport in this, 100%. I have been fishing for about 27 years now. I have done everything from tiny pond fishing to multiple day long range deep sea fishing. I enjoy it all. And as fishermen, we try every edge to get to get on fish!! This looks to be a very effective idea. And I don't believe a few drones are gonna make tuna go extinct, big nets do the damage, and that is less sport. Anyway guys keep up the good work, and tight lines!!
Dear Juan, I have been fishing for 50 years , when I was kid I used all methods to catch fishes but then I grow up and since 20 years I only fish with the fly and release all the fishes. The video is very nice but saying that "there is sport in this, 100%" is too much .. good luck
Just buy yourself a hugh trawler and along with many others you can out and really rob the seas . But don't let us hear you sobbing when its all gone. Become a better and greater skilled angler and catch more with what you have.

It's no different than kite fishing. And kite fishing is used everywhere. Charter boat last year, 39 bluefin average weight 80 to 90 pounds on the kite.

Yeah me as well. I think you would probably have to go out and go drone fishing with one of the operators and then you could see it and learn it, it would cost a days fishing but would be worth it for sure.

Any chance of you guys posting a DIY video for others to replicate? There's a yacht club channel out by me in NYC, just out of casting distance and I'm almost certain there are bull sharks cruising through there. I'm not experienced enough to try with a yak, but have been trying to figure out a way to get the bait far enough out and I think this is the best solution.
+Stuart Keefer Check out Powerlining. It's basically an air cannon that you use to launch your bait out way past the surf.
+Stuart Keefer some rubber bands and a key chain ring.. The tackle line is wedged in between the key chain ring. Yanks the line off the ring from force.

Completely legal In NSW and other states in Australia
It is not allowed aircraft fishing in Ontario (provincial regulations). But nothing is mentioned about drone fishing. I think, the best would be to contact with local MNR authorities.

Just out of curiosity what would a fish like that sell for
$180-$400 depending on the quality. That one's just a baby, so unless it's a lazy lardass that's never been challenged, it's probably lean side and not as oily as the big ones. Those things get 10 feet long and 800 lbs. That looks like a 45 lb fish, probably 25-30lbs dressed. But what do tuna steaks go for at your local market? 30lbs of tuna would feed a small village. That's an unusually-thick tuna steak every day for a month.
andrew potts long tails don't get big and are rarely eaten, as they are not good eating compared to yellow or bluefin tuna. Also I'm pretty sure long tails are recreational only species meaning they can't be commercially fished or sold.
Tim Vincent Fishing Oops, didn't see the longtail. I thought that was a baby bluefin. Shows you what I know. I'd make a terrible buyer, out of business in a week.
Actually these longtails in colder water are really good eating. I have eaten all types of tuna and this particular fish was up there with some of the best iv had. When bled right and iced strait away there's nothing wrong with it.
