I like to use my index and ring fingers on the high E and B strings for hammer-ons and pull-offs and bends. Also, Albert King style high E string over-bends work great in the context of Hubert Sumlin phrases.
I'll do an extra lesson for the Sumlin video this summer - that's a very easy lick - The song is in G - he slides into the 3rd fret on the 1 and 2 strings (like a chuck berry/rock and roll lick) and then does a standard blues double stop lick on the 2nd and 3rd strings - hammering down on the 4th fret of the 3rd string (picking both 2nd and 3rd strings at same time). I'll do a video, but that might get you close to figuring it out. He just moves that same lick to the C and D barre chord positions (8th and 10th frets) for the IV and V changes.
I may have simply forgotten - these are unscripted and done "off the cuff" with a bit of homework put in ahead of time. Give me a time (counter) on the part you want me to teach. I can add it on as a Part 2 - I've got some more Hubert stuff I could throw in anyway. Thanks!

Great tip about holding the pick short.
Certainly looked like Hubert played fingerstyle no? At least in the videos ive seen it looks like traditional delta style picking.
I am dying to learn the main riff from howlin for my darling.

I'll do it later this week - planning a couple more videos.
Sorry, I forgot to go back and explain this lick. I will do it ASAP - as part of another Hubert Sumlin video. Thanks for your interest!
