if they changed places, probably Donnie Yen will go to jail and lose confidence in the judicial system...But don't think Donnie Yen's personality will cause him to take revenge though he would be full of grief and disappointment given what he would have gone if he was in Nicholas Tse's place. It all depends on personality. Nicholas's personality is sort of like the personality of those university shooting students who has suffered long-term bullying. they just couldn't let go what they've gone through. Whereas Donnie Yen's personality is the stubborn headstrong person who follows rules based on the beginning of the movie...bc he was too honest and refused to lie in court, despite the police was indeed trying to fight off a potential criminal with violence (though they used excessive violence in the beginning), also the judicial system was flawed, simply Donnie Yen did not see criminal resisting doesn't mean it did not happen...along with all that bullying in the prison that Nicholas went through, i could see why Nicholas could no longer live a normal life without taking his revenge...this comes back to Nicholas' personality whom doesn't let things go easily....given all this that happened to him, he could no longer live a normal life and would prefer to take his revenge and die, rather than pass the mundane lifestyle of a normal person...he just went through too much, similar personality and attitude as those who took a gun and shot in schools in the US.
