My read on Zafina is as follows: Her function in the game is to be the stance character that gets to lean heavily into the neutral game. The removal of b1+2 in neutral and and nerfing of a lot of her approach and CH tools like ff3 or ff2, combined with the universal mechanics of 8, means she can’t do this very effectively now. If the intention is to lean into her stances, why remove a lot of her transitions and strings in the stances? If the intention is have lean into the mystical stuff like Jun or Claudio, why does she not have some sort of means to augment her moves ala. Starburst or just vomit out damage like Jun?
She was over preforming in 7 people are going have to adjust to play a normal character and engage with the game mechanics instead of the character bypassing it for them

I don't think majority of people wanted these severe nerfs. She was never that big of a problem imo and among the least used characters in T7; even though she gained notoriety in tournaments. People often lose online to low picked characters that they need to lab how to defend; like Lei, but Zafina had story relevance so she made base roster.

Apart from the movement she wasn't even that strong people where just refusing to lab her if they expect everyone to rely on stance mixups it's not going to end well. Got given the kazumi treatment cause ash used her (and he had pretty much switched to kuni and Katarina as it was.)

She's by far the most nerfed character in this game. The only somewhat cool thing I found is: Her back 2 guarantees a heat smash on hit for 73 dmg. (It's +12 on hit and her smash is 12f)
T8 Zafina feels like your playing T6 again after playing T7, i loved using up/forwards 1+2 catch people of guard or close a round out cant believe they took it out

Surprised at everyone calling this justified because she was too good in T7 as though her main strength in that game wasn't her movement/evasion. Nerfing those, sure, they're frustrating elements to play against. They've butchered her frame data, punishment and damage instead which was never the problem to begin with

The removal of matnis 3,3,4 string is a massive nerf, mantis 3 was +3 on hit and could frame trap to mantis 2... what scary lows she have now in mantis?
It sucks. Her mantis and scarecrow stances were butchered to oblivion. No more frame traps while in mantis. That MNT 3 is a major loss. Along the removal of SCR 3,3,4. The new SCR 3,3 isnt even + on block anymore. And she stays in SCR where you cant block
She feels like an incomplete character now imho. They want you to use stances more, but then proceed to heavily nerve your options from those stances. Does not compute. Seems like they felt obliged to include her because Arslan was playing her and really resented that.
Everything you mention pretty much sums how I feel about her in this iteration of Tekken…got Zafina in the lab these past few days. I feel as though the devs are pushing people to play her in a certain way. It’s been a struggle testing her string but I’m pushing it. You highlight all this so well in your video. Well done! Sidestep 1+2 yes. It does knockdown but you can crouch as quick as possible and then do a ws2 (while standing 2) and continue a combo. The timing is tight.@@Nkodtb
You should never be punished for hitting your opponent yet thats the route they went with the character and the combo damage is actually pathetic it makes no sense at all.
@@via_negativa6183 nah, you can design a character that hurts themselves and still have it be cool and make sense. Look at Yoshi. He’s always had moves that take his life, but other moves replenish it. This made him distinct from the other characters. Jun does this too in Tekken 8, although I think most people did not notice until now. I think it’s too early to say if these nerfs to Zafina will render her as trash, considering she was damn good in Tekken 7.
If they were going for the design choice of Zafina being overall weaker and forcing her to rely on self damaging claw attacks, then those attacks should be unquestionably powerful. As of right now, that is not at all the case. How are you going to make Zafina's df 4,1 cost health AND be -12? Why is her combo damage not significantly stronger when you use her claw attacks in them? Why would you make her b1,1+2 cost health without increasing its damage or giving better oki on hit? All of her claw attacks should be plus on block and do 30-40 damage at the very least.
Goddamn, they took a shotgun to Zafina. Yeah, Zafina was good, but they executed her like she was a war criminal. Can she at least recover some of the health she loses? Jun has a health loss mechanic, but she can also get some of it back.
This whole situation reminds me of Lars's treatment, back in the day when he was nerfed to the ground from T6 to T7. And it's the same deadly cocktail: Taking away key moves which gives the character their core identity and give them nothing spectacular in return. No wonder Zafina suffers a huge identity crisis and nobody knows how the hell she's supposed to be played now ( just like vanilla T7 Lars ).
She really deserves some buffs. People really overvalued her in T7 cause of Arslan Ash (Julia, Marduk, Akuma, Feng, Geese, and Kunimitsu were far stronger than her). Her damage was already mediocre and unfortunately, it's the same case in T8. She really feels underwhelming compared to the rest of the characters in the game at the moment that got more tools and/or damage. I def agree with your point that it's kind of confusing in what direction the devs are aiming for Zafina's playstyle. If they want players to lean heavily on her stances, then why remove a lot of strings and transitions?
Yeah I loved the plethora of stance transitions and cancels Zafina had in Tekken 7. It really made her gameplay very dynamic and unique. Deleting alot of them just to make her somewhat easier for newer players to pick up kills alot of her identity as a stance based character and punishes players like myself who took time to learn them to utilize that deeper aspect to her gameplay. It's sad what they did to her in that department on top of all the other nerfs.

Zafina’s more stance heavy now. A lot of key moves were removed, but I do like some of her new moves especially the ones that go into heat. Imo she’s not too bad, she just has to be played a different way. I won’t stop maining her though.

@@SYRAXSLAYER nah. I would not say lower than Fahk. Fahk suffered the most on the T7 DLC characters nerfs to the fact that he no longer has any CH launcher and all of his lows were launch punishable.

SRC ch launcher was removed and her ws3 frame trap is gone all her ch launchers insta screw now all her combos are scaled like crazy almost all options from SCR are launch on block. Tarantula is so much easier to float now, ff4 has reduced range that’s essentially death on whiff. No i15 launcher so she can’t launch rage arts anymore and she’s the only character in the game that’s loses health from her own combos and has no way to recover it’s outside of heat
Honestly even if she’s as weak as t6 Zafina i’m still going to play her. The nerfs are definitely rough and the transition removals are absolutely travesty but it’s still Zafina:(. I just wish if they wanted to make her weak to at least not remove her transitions, what they did to her is a crime.
Yeah its feeling like they shifted her. Where SCR is heavy mix up, TRT is light mix up, and MNT is for CH fishing. I would love to see TRT 3 transition into MNT again, df1,4 into SCR, a new low from crouching, 2,1 NC, SCR d3 to be +4 on hit, and SCR 1+2 into MNT
Arslan was the only one who really played her in tournaments so I'm shocked with the drastic nerfs. Well, at least you can play with Lars Frame since he's significantly better now. Edit: Did you mention ff3? No longer launches on CH. Guarantees Scarecrow 2,2.
Every character Arslan touches gets nerfed. Why do you think he dropped Zafina long ago? Now he is playing Nina and Azucena even though Zafina is in the roster

So basically they took a stance based character and removed lots of stance based moves and transitions. - b1+2 being accesible only from SCR is a hate crime tbh. - No MNT option after b3 or after SCR 3. - Automatic MNT after SCR df4. - Removing uf1+2, an interesting move (and one of my faves).for TRT mixups. -Removing MNT 3 and SCR 3 mixups I just don't understand the criteria for these changes.
What would’ve been actually pretty cool is if the self damage moves were just frames, or maybe if you held a directional input that would make them self damage, but also add an extra bit of damage on.. ie df1 is a normal move, but if you did df1f it made it self damage but deal an extra 5 damage.. in situations where you have a life lead and can afford the sacrifice to get a win or make a combo even higher damage.
Funnily enough if you are in heat it still counter hit launches actually. After using ff 3 ch you get a guaranteed 2,1 f in scr to transition into a combo so the whole thing is like 80+ damage which is not horrible.
@@shay5689 yes but you have to activate heat previous, and Zafina each time you do the optimal combo lose health, with df 2 and no wall you do 66 aprox losing health, other character do min 70 without health 's loses

It's just what you said, I'm mighty ruler Zafina, I can confirm the backdash is average at best right now, her tracking is butchered, in and out of stances, her damage is trash, her wallcarry is bad, her punishment is bad, the heat is so weak, she loses life for no reason, she just feels lacking in general. The stances are so bad too, they are encouraging you to use em more in this game but all they did is remove usefull tools from them. Good luck opening up oponents now when all the characters have been masively buffed and Zafina masively nerfed, I'd easily say she's one of the worst characters in the game right now, having faced so many good oponents as I have already, it's so hard to win with her, guess they listen to daboyz complaining cose all they wanted to do is win against her without labbing her... Such poor decision making by the development team

I had the exact same thoughts as yours when I played her for an entire day. I thought I just couldn't utilize her well enough, but I feel vindicated now. I went back to my old main Lili and was flabbergasted by the power difference. I went from terrible block punishment, low damage, unsafe moves, and meh mixups to what seems to be the polar opposite.
I might be trippin but Zafina does have a 14 frame punisher, her df4 string. One of those is a heat engager and the other one I think wallsplats. I also don't think you're supposed to use Azazel move outside of heat, except the heat engager ones. The heat engager Azazel moves does chip damage on block so you're not the only one losing health. You also regen health as you enter heat with those moves. I only labbed her a bit so these are just my impressions tho.

She's so gutted we've been comparing her to T6 Zaf on Zafcord because in that comparison she has received some buffs at least but still a few notes 1) df41 is her go to 14f punisher, heat engage and all 2) MNT d4 now counter hit launches for whatever reason 3) her top hurtless damage from df2 is 62. And it's a hard combo. Her hurtful damage from df2 currently tops at 66, potential 69 if we are to believe pre-release footage, we've not been able to replicate the 69. 4) SCR 33 in turn for the lack of other options is now confirmable, fully.
Let’s be honest they heavily nerfed her because they don’t want to hear complaints from 7 so they want people who really like her despite her strength to earn her buffs later on so the community is less salty about losing to her
Quick correction at 4:10 or so: She can knockdown at -14 with both f+4 and df+4,2. I understand the disappointment over the nerfs, but she's still really good, specially with the new stance tools like MNT df+1.
I’m not enjoying the game so far honestly and I was trying to determine why. I think my issue is, I never have liked rushing down my opponent. This game actively forces me to play in a way that I don’t like. One of the reasons that I like Tekken is that historically, there is a large roster with diverse characters; each character has a pretty big move list that can be utilized to play the character in a way that you feel comfortable with. This meant you could play mirror matches all day and still everyone had a different play style. This game feels designed to make everyone play the same. Same moves, same techniques, same combos, same mechanics. I may just need to get used to it but I’m not enjoying it right now.
19:26 I think her damage potential is much better with walls with the combination of Azazel hand and heatburst. Imagine traveling to a wall with ws1,2, uf1, f2,3 SCR df1, 1, 2+3 heat, df4 to Azal hand, to wall df 1,2,1 or ending a long combo that has heat burst in it with heat engager with combo ender of running 1+2, stance, df1 azal hand to wall, df1,2,1. I think she's not that she's decent but her neutral low game is absolute shit and depends on stances to do any type of effective low.
I’m generally more of a SF player than a Tekken player and I really only dabbled in T7, but I’ve been playing Zafina a lot since the game launched. I don’t really have much in the way of skin in the game here but I do think she’ll be at the bottom of the tier lists in her current form. Fun to play though.

Powercrush frames have been universally made punishable I believe. Due to the fact that if it absorbs an attack but still gets blocked it will become safe on block. If you just throw it out there and they do not attack it will remain -14
I knew it from the sample combos that there's something off with her damage scaling, turns out she's just really bad at combo damage. Her new game play is about spamming aggressive armor moves and spamming Azazel moves that doesn't use d/f+1 during heat mode like her b1+2 parry and f1+2 10 frame move, Her new armor moves during heat help her mix-up her bad punishable frames from her tarantula and mantis stances, She has a 10 frame punish f1+2 that allows goes to heat and only -9 on block with a huge push back distance she can do wacky and do risky things to counter aggression like b+3 armor move, manual heat engager, or her parry move. FF3 helps her best to go Scarecrow move but I think Scarecrow is kinda bad ATM. FFF1+2 is +7 on block and goes into tarantula stance which allows you to keep pressuring for mantis d/f+1 and brute force yourself into heat mode so you can rinse and repeat her new 10 frame move f1+2 until you trigger the heat move, then rely on mantis stance for the rest of the round d3 hold d on hit is +2 on hit and goes into mantis stance which has access to mantis 1+2 which is an armor move, or d/f+1 which is +6 on block and mantis 2 which is a counter hit down move. Her OKI option is either b3 for wake up spam, FF4 for techrolls, or D3 into mantis for mantis 2 CH or mantis df+1 for +6 frames.
Scarecrow is so high risk low reward now all her launching normals from scarecrow insta tornadoes, her armored launch is death on block so is her snake edge and b1+2 not to mention she loses health for using anything that involves azazel Tarantula is significantly easier to float and her new WR move that’s +7 into tarantula is super linear only good thing I can say about tarantula is the guaranteed oki she gets from tarantula 3 into tarantula df1 Mantis has had strings removed and her old mantis d3,1 combo was nerfed her and her overall combo damage was nerfed hard She’s definitely bottom 5 rn and it’s crazy to me because she was never broken ppl only overrated her due to her backdash now she’s gutted for no real reason and loses health just for existing 😂 idk what they were thinking with these changes
Hopefully she will get justice in balance patches. The game isnt that balanced rn which is to be expected since its just out. But when looking at units like Dragunov and then Zafina there is a big difference in strength @@SYRAXSLAYER

I’m level Vanquish with her and it has most definitely been a challenge with her being so much weaker. Her moves are also easily over powered. It’s been a fight but I’m sticking with her.

She's bad. bottom tier I agree, but it might not be as bad as people are saying? Even Frame made some errors in his video regarding her punishment and frame data I think. e.g. she's got i14 punish option with df4,1. Good dmg + heat engager. I use it to get my recoverable health back (which I always have a TON of) whenever they do a 14 or 15frame punishable move. In general, play like a buget-version of Hworang and use your stance switches, armor, & plus frame moves. I try to give them two bad options. Block while I recover the health Azazel costs me, or try to act when they are minus frames or I'm doing a crushing move. Good luck out there.

I’m having a lot of fun with her I don’t agree with everything, the scr 2,1 and f1+2 have good pushback. I do agree with the chip damage idk why they have that and also I agree about the reduction of the heat bar for doing the azazel moves, maybe reduce heat but can good chip damage back. She plays more like how my emperor rank zafina was and how I wanted to play so I’m having a lot of fun, I feel people are more stuck dealing with my stances where I felt like mantis was the only one I could “trap” someone with and then simply do 2 and hope they sit there. Or if they were totally confused by a random TRT entry which at that rank they weren’t. Alas buff zafina

She's by far the most nerfed character in this game. The only somewhat cool thing I found is: Her back 2 guarantees a heat smash on hit for 73 dmg. (It's +12 on hit and her smash is 12f)
T8 Zafina feels like your playing T6 again after playing T7, i loved using up/forwards 1+2 catch people of guard or close a round out cant believe they took it out

Surprised at everyone calling this justified because she was too good in T7 as though her main strength in that game wasn't her movement/evasion. The removal of matnis 3,3,4 string is a massive nerf, mantis 3 was +3 on hit and could frame trap to mantis 2... what scary lows she have now in mantis?
It sucks. Her mantis and scarecrow stances were butchered to oblivion. No more frame traps while in mantis. That MNT 3 is a major loss. Along the removal of SCR 3,3,4. The new SCR 3,3 isnt even + on block anymore. And she stays in SCR where you cant block

Sidestep 1+2 yes. It does knockdown but you can crouch as quick as possible and then do a ws2 (while standing 2) and continue a combo. The timing is tight.@@Nkodtb

Look at Yoshi. He’s always had moves that take his life, but other moves replenish it. This made him distinct from the other characters. Jun does this too in Tekken 8, although I think most people did not notice until now. I think it’s too early to say if these nerfs to Zafina will render her as trash, considering she was damn good in Tekken 7.

If they were going for the design choice of Zafina being overall weaker and forcing her to rely on self damaging claw attacks, then those attacks should be unquestionably powerful. As of right now, that is not at all the case.

This whole situation reminds me of Lars's treatment, back in the day when he was nerfed to the ground from T6 to T7.

Taking away key moves which gives the character their core identity and give them nothing spectacular in return. No wonder Zafina suffers a huge identity crisis and nobody knows how the hell she's supposed to be played now ( just like vanilla T7 Lars ).
She really deserves some buffs. People really overvalued her in T7 cause of Arslan Ash (Julia, Marduk, Akuma, Feng, Geese, and Kunimitsu were far stronger than her). Her damage was already mediocre and unfortunately, it's the same case in T8. She really feels underwhelming compared to the rest of the characters in the game at the moment that got more tools and/or damage.
I def agree with your point that it's kind of confusing in what direction the devs are aiming for Zafina's playstyle. If they want players to lean heavily on her stances, then why remove a lot of strings and transitions?
Yeah I loved the plethora of stance transitions and cancels Zafina had in Tekken 7. It really made her gameplay very dynamic and unique. Deleting alot of them just to make her somewhat easier for newer players to pick up kills alot of her identity as a stance based character and punishes players like myself who took time to learn them to utilize that deeper aspect to her gameplay. It's sad what they did to her in that department on top of all the other nerfs.

Zafina’s more stance heavy now. A lot of key moves were removed, but I do like some of her new moves especially the ones that go into heat. Imo she’s not too bad, she just has to be played a different way. I won’t stop maining her though.

SRC ch launcher was removed and her ws3 frame trap is gone all her ch launchers insta screw now all her combos are scaled like crazy almost all options from SCR are launch on block. Tarantula is so much easier to float now, ff4 has reduced range that’s essentially death on whiff. No i15 launcher so she can’t launch rage arts anymore and she’s the only character in the game that’s loses health from her own combos and has no way to recover it’s outside of heat

Those claw moves are also so slow damn.
What would’ve been actually pretty cool is if the self damage moves were just frames, or maybe if you held a directional input that would make them self damage, but also add an extra bit of damage on.. ie df1 is a normal move, but if you did df1f it made it self damage but deal an extra 5 damage.. in situations where you have a life lead and can afford the sacrifice to get a win or make a combo even higher damage.

Funnily enough if you are in heat it still counter hit launches actually. After using ff 3 ch you get a guaranteed 2,1 f in scr to transition into a combo so the whole thing is like 80+ damage which is not horrible.

It's just what you said, I'm mighty ruler Zafina, I can confirm the backdash is average at best right now, her tracking is butchered, in and out of stances, her damage is trash, her wallcarry is bad, her punishment is bad, the heat is so weak, she loses life for no reason, she just feels lacking in general. The stances are so bad too, they are encouraging you to use em more in this game but all they did is remove usefull tools from them. Good luck opening up oponents now when all the characters have been masively buffed and Zafina masively nerfed, I'd easily say she's one of the worst characters in the game right now, having faced so many good oponents as I have already, it's so hard to win with her, guess they listen to daboyz complaining cose all they wanted to do is win against her without labbing her... Such poor decision making by the development team

I had the exact same thoughts as yours when I played her for an entire day. I thought I just couldn't utilize her well enough, but I feel vindicated now. I went back to my old main Lili and was flabbergasted by the power difference. I went from terrible block punishment, low damage, unsafe moves, and meh mixups to what seems to be the polar opposite.
Legend says if you lose 1000 times to Harada_Tekken in ghost battles with Zafina she will get buffed. But don't ask him for shit. Don't get it twisted

I might be trippin but Zafina does have a 14 frame punisher, her df4 string. One of those is a heat engager and the other one I think wallsplats.
I also don't think you're supposed to use Azazel move outside of heat, except the heat engager ones. The heat engager Azazel moves does chip damage on block so you're not the only one losing health. You also regen health as you enter heat with those moves. I only labbed her a bit so these are just my impressions tho.

She's so gutted we've been comparing her to T6 Zaf on Zafcord because in that comparison she has received some buffs at least
but still a few notes
1) df41 is her go to 14f punisher, heat engage and all
2) MNT d4 now counter hit launches for whatever reason
3) her top hurtless damage from df2 is 62. And it's a hard combo. Her hurtful damage from df2 currently tops at 66, potential 69 if we are to believe pre-release footage, we've not been able to replicate the 69.
4) SCR 33 in turn for the lack of other options is now confirmable, fully.
Let’s be honest they heavily nerfed her because they don’t want to hear complaints from 7 so they want people who really like her despite her strength to earn her buffs later on so the community is less salty about losing to her
Quick correction at 4:10 or so: She can knockdown at -14 with both f+4 and df+4,2.

I’m not enjoying the game so far honestly and I was trying to determine why. I think my issue is, I never have liked rushing down my opponent. This game actively forces me to play in a way that I don’t like. One of the reasons that I like Tekken is that historically, there is a large roster with diverse characters; each character has a pretty big move list that can be utilized to play the character in a way that you feel comfortable with. This meant you could play mirror matches all day and still everyone had a different play style. This game feels designed to make everyone play the same. Same moves, same techniques, same combos, same mechanics. I may just need to get used to it but I’m not enjoying it right now.
19:26 I think her damage potential is much better with walls with the combination of Azazel hand and heatburst. Imagine traveling to a wall with ws1,2, uf1, f2,3 SCR df1, 1, 2+3 heat, df4 to Azal hand, to wall df 1,2,1 or ending a long combo that has heat burst in it with heat engager with combo ender of running 1+2, stance, df1 azal hand to wall, df1,2,1.
I think she's not that she's decent but her neutral low game is absolute shit and depends on stances to do any type of effective low.

I’m generally more of a SF player than a Tekken player and I really only dabbled in T7, but I’ve been playing Zafina a lot since the game launched. I don’t really have much in the way of skin in the game here but I do think she’ll be at the bottom of the tier lists in her current form. Fun to play though.
She's my main since 17 years... i can only relate. Gonna play her anyway, cause i'm addicted to her move... and I am too happy that i have not to wait two long years for a DLC that could have never come like in 7...
Powercrush frames have been universally made punishable I believe. Due to the fact that if it absorbs an attack but still gets blocked it will become safe on block. If you just throw it out there and they do not attack it will remain -14
Having a safe mid powercrush was messed up tbh. That nerf was 100% deserved.
These issues with Zafina scream "I was super busted in early playtesting, got nerfed really hard, and then never got a second look."
I knew it from the sample combos that there's something off with her damage scaling, turns out she's just really bad at combo damage.
Her new game play is about spamming aggressive armor moves and spamming Azazel moves that doesn't use d/f+1 during heat mode like her b1+2 parry and f1+2 10 frame move,
Her new armor moves during heat help her mix-up her bad punishable frames from her tarantula and mantis stances,
She has a 10 frame punish f1+2 that allows goes to heat and only -9 on block with a huge push back distance
she can do wacky and do risky things to counter aggression like b+3 armor move, manual heat engager, or her parry move.
FF3 helps her best to go Scarecrow move but I think Scarecrow is kinda bad ATM.
FFF1+2 is +7 on block and goes into tarantula stance which allows you to keep pressuring for mantis d/f+1 and brute force yourself into heat mode so you can rinse and repeat her new 10 frame move f1+2 until you trigger the heat move, then rely on mantis stance for the rest of the round
d3 hold d on hit is +2 on hit and goes into mantis stance which has access to mantis 1+2 which is an armor move, or d/f+1 which is +6 on block and mantis 2 which is a counter hit down move.
Her OKI option is either b3 for wake up spam, FF4 for techrolls, or D3 into mantis for mantis 2 CH or mantis df+1 for +6 frames.
Scarecrow is so high risk low reward now all her launching normals from scarecrow insta tornadoes, her armored launch is death on block so is her snake edge and b1+2 not to mention she loses health for using anything that involves azazel
Tarantula is significantly easier to float and her new WR move that’s +7 into tarantula is super linear only good thing I can say about tarantula is the guaranteed oki she gets from tarantula 3 into tarantula df1
Mantis has had strings removed and her old mantis d3,1 combo was nerfed her and her overall combo damage was nerfed hard
She’s definitely bottom 5 rn and it’s crazy to me because she was never broken ppl only overrated her due to her backdash now she’s gutted for no real reason and loses health just for existing 😂 idk what they were thinking with these changes

Yes, she's exactly like her Tekken 6 incarnation. If you remove half her key moves, stance mixups and CH launchers, and add self damage.
Maybe she'll be back to what she was after 2-3 seasons

In all seriousness though, it is way too early to tell how strong/weak she actually is but it is not looking great for her.
I was going to main her but after 30 minutes in training i realized she is 🗑️. Your video confirmed my impressions 😢 I was ready for a nerfed Zafina from T7 tbh but that's a little bit too much, characters in this game can do crazy stuff in heat, she can't compare
Thank god! I don't need to ignore 80% of her moveset because of her generic buttons being OP in comparsion of her character specific buttons

Zafina is still Fun in T8 imo as I am a true Zaf fan and not a Tier Whore - But it is a sad state of affairs that I would prefer to have the Trash Tier Tag 2 Zaf back than this Declawed Cat T8 version
She's bad. bottom tier I agree, but it might not be as bad as people are saying? Even Frame made some errors in his video regarding her punishment and frame data I think.
e.g. she's got i14 punish option with df4,1. Good dmg + heat engager. I use it to get my recoverable health back (which I always have a TON of) whenever they do a 14 or 15frame punishable move.
In general, play like a buget-version of Hworang and use your stance switches, armor, & plus frame moves. I try to give them two bad options. Block while I recover the health Azazel costs me, or try to act when they are minus frames or I'm doing a crushing move.

She got hit with bias balance. It's not a good look, somebody started doing really good with her in last game then receives massive nerfs for the first time in the next. Gave no clear answer about her in the story. Jesus
I do like her new MNT 4~d that goes into TRT, but I really hate how many stance transitions she's lost.
I’m having a lot of fun with her I don’t agree with everything, the scr 2,1 and f1+2 have good pushback. I do agree with the chip damage idk why they have that and also I agree about the reduction of the heat bar for doing the azazel moves, maybe reduce heat but can good chip damage back. She plays more like how my emperor rank zafina was and how I wanted to play so I’m having a lot of fun, I feel people are more stuck dealing with my stances where I felt like mantis was the only one I could “trap” someone with and then simply do 2 and hope they sit there. Or if they were totally confused by a random TRT entry which at that rank they weren’t. Alas buff zafina

How about f+4 and d/f 4,1 and d/f 4,2 for 14 frame punishement? She used to have those in Tekken 7. Is that gone too?
Those are still in the Game and they are decent

Her scarecrow 1+2 guarantees mantis df1 on hit, hence they nerfed the damage on it.
bro you missing the point forget about frame zafina is design to be fight on low stance thats where she release her strenth of azazel, if you fight her standing you wont get much benefit from her, i had the same idea as your what i am really missing on zaf, why cant i maximise her strenth? when i start using her low stance everything start coming to fruitation.
