wonderful to see the Majestic Maersk living Felixstowe for Asia. I used to work for an Israeli shipping line ( not huge ships ) and I worked in our offices as a container controller. until 1996. Not worked for any other shipping lines as none offered me a job, as I was 55 at that time. still good to see Felixstowe shipping many container ships.
I used to go to Felixstowe to see them loading ships when i was stationed at Raf Bentwaters in the mid 80's. I bet it has changed a lot since then!!! The Air Force had me drive there to get on a roro fairy to Belgian.
Containers getting tossed over is a real danger to other ships.....I had a friend that worked on a seismic boat in the GOM and their boat hit on that was just bellow waterline maybe 6-7 ft under....tore the the boat up....cracked the hull and started taking on water,...the captain saved the ship/boat with pumps but he said it made for a long night.....he was sleeping when the boat hit the container.....he said water was pouring in the ships head at the front of the boat......and within 10 mins a good 6/7 inches was water was in the sleeping section.
Hey, 9 car Cottrell, you've just about done everything in your life, from working on this ship to the USAF flying C5 Galaxies, driving trains, trucks and probably everything else. Just wondering, have you also served in the Navy aboard a Yellow Submarine? 😁😁
Oh ffs he works on this now!!!?? This guy's hilarious. 9 car Cottrell is an ex Concorde pilot. He's also Captain and Shift Commander LaBonte USAF Patriot Wing. Also drives trains and a 9 car stinger car transporter. Meanwhile also runs a D11 bulldozer and a Cat 797 mining truck. So, between doing all that and working on this ship i'm surprised he has time to comment on You Tube videos. lmfao Get knotted you halfwit
Not a lot. Just that 9 car Cottrell clown talking bullshit. Started by saying he's a former Concorde pilot on Concorde videos. Was formerly known on here as Sst Pilot.
Given the limited view angles, I count 23x11x26, and that's just on the deck, not including the hold. That's almost 6,000 containers, just on the deck, and just what's visible. WOW
amazing ships and impressive i have seen the emma maersk in 2006 and already huge but i am sared from container ships since i have seen the MOL comfort disaster in 2013 that caused 4500 containers to be lost in the arabian sea
they put twist locks in each bottom of the corner of the box, we call them "dogs". they are about the size of a fist. they lash them down also. i work at the port of charleston, i got a drone video of our teminal.
The containers are held on with twist locks on each corner and the layer above the lashing platforms are cross lashed to give extra support in rough seas. There has been many container stack falls over the years, the record has been over 520 in one night.
They are locked together with twist locks on each corner like they are on a lorry. Although this holds them together, there is still a possibility they fall off during very rough weather.
The Manila Maersk is a second generation Triple E. Almost identical in length and breadth but the accommodation block has been moved forward 2 bays and funnels one bay back so it can hold a capacity of 20,568teu, just over 2,200teu more than the Majestic Maersk
@@ae4042 the second generation has the bridge 2 bays forward and the funnel 1 bay further back to increase capacity by over 2,000 TEU. The stern and bow have been redesigned to help with aerodynamic and fuel efficiency
I deliver to the maeesk terminal in Seattle all the time. The ships I see are shitty, short in length and ride high in the water. The Chinese ships are incredibly big.
It was a Danish shipping guy, Peter Mærsk Møller, who started the whole company. His son, Arnold Peter Møller, and his son, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller continued and developed the company. The name changed to "Maersk" for international reasons; only Danmark and Norway have the letter "æ" - it was a kind of streamlining the company internationally. Yes, they are loaded.

On a show about tugboats, it stated that the best harbor/docking pilots almost always had experience as tugboat captains.
Love these videos!

TBH it was probably less to do with your age and much more to do with your affiliation with Israel

Somehow I doubt Malcolm Mc Lean imagined this when he came up with the shipping container concept in 1956.

With all those loaded containers it sure seems like a lot of surface area for the wind to catch.
Very interesting !!! Thank you for sharing !!! :):):)
There’s something unreal about this!!! One of the wonders of the world!!! Which is it? Forgive me: I’m overwhelmed by what I see!!!
I real enjoy your videos

Watch out in the Suez Canal it’s very shallow and pretty narrow
More videos on the tugboat than the ship.
There will be soon. Best tug movements of 2021

Good video.
This is fascinating! I don’t know anything about ships can someone tell me how fast this goes in miles per hour?
Top speed is about 25mph but cruising speed is about 20mph.
I can do 22 knots wide open.

Those tugs handling a Goliath of a ship -- how is this possible? That's some impressive skill set.
Friction is greatly reduced in the water. It's why ships can be so large and need anchors in the first place
Given the limited view angles, I count 23x11x26, and that's just on the deck, not including the hold. That's almost 6,000 containers, just on the deck, and just what's visible. WOW
If I remember in total it holds 18,000 containers at max, as there are containers above and below deck
How many containers might be on the ship?
The Majestic Maersk can hold 18,270 of the 20ft containers
@@deanocable Thanks plz
Just wondering how much that cargo is worrh??

My hat blew off (nice)fish will catch it for you
Amazes me how tall they stack those and don't lose any in the huge ocean waves, gotta be at least 10 containers high.
i know i dont get it either

Hundreds of containers go overboard every year. They can be hazards to navigation. Large companies like Maersk take more care of their loads.
Bins of everything.products.appliances.everything
Insane 😳
I remember the rocky beach at Felixstowe when I was stationed at Bentwaters
The container port is the other end of Felixstowe from the amusement pier
What secures the containers in rough seas? do they just let them fall off??
The containers are held on with twist locks on each corner and the layer above the lashing platforms are cross lashed to give extra support in rough seas. There has been many container stack falls over the years, the record has been over 520 in one night.
What is preventing the containers from just falling off?
They are locked together with twist locks on each corner like they are on a lorry. Although this holds them together, there is still a possibility they fall off during very rough weather.

I wonder if they're gonna build larger ships than the Maersk?
Next week the new world's largest container ship is due in Felixstowe and she can hold 23,756 of the 20ft containers.
"Hey!! Stop!! You forgot to disconnect the line!! I'm back here, let me go!! Hey!! Captain!! Wait!!"
How on earth do these things stay afloat? How many Captains are on board, incase one gets sick?
It's less dense than water
Only one Capt David
Captain is always one in my opiniom
Should the captain get sick, the Chief Officer will take over until a new Captain comes onboard. Don't worry.
Top heavy?
The heavier boxes are near the bottom of the ship. Ones on top deck are most likely to be light weight cargo and empty containers.

About $21 Billion
It is a public company, but the family does well :-)
