      On a show about tugboats, it stated that the best harbor/docking pilots almost always had experience as tugboat captains.

    wonderful to see the Majestic Maersk living Felixstowe for Asia. I used to work for an Israeli shipping line ( not huge ships ) and I worked in our offices as a container controller. until 1996. Not worked for any other shipping lines as none offered me a job, as I was 55 at that time. still good to see Felixstowe shipping many container ships.

      TBH it was probably less to do with your age and much more to do with your affiliation with Israel

    I used to go to Felixstowe to see them loading ships when i was stationed at Raf Bentwaters in the mid 80's. I bet it has changed a lot since then!!! The Air Force had me drive there to get on a roro fairy to Belgian.

    Somehow I doubt Malcolm Mc Lean imagined this when he came up with the shipping container concept in 1956.

    Containers getting tossed over is a real danger to other ships.....I had a friend that worked on a seismic boat in the GOM and their boat hit on that was just bellow waterline maybe 6-7 ft under....tore the the boat up....cracked the hull and started taking on water,...the captain saved the ship/boat with pumps but he said it made for a long night.....he was sleeping when the boat hit the container.....he said water was pouring in the ships head at the front of the boat......and within 10 mins a good 6/7 inches was water was in the sleeping section.

Also drives trains and a 9 car stinger car transporter. Meanwhile also runs a D11 bulldozer and a Cat 797 mining truck. So, between doing all that and working on this ship i'm surprised he has time to comment on You Tube videos. lmfao Get knotted you halfwit

      Hundreds of containers go overboard every year. They can be hazards to navigation. Large companies like Maersk take more care of their loads.

    What secures the containers in rough seas? do they just let them fall off??

    • @deanocable
      @deanocable  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The containers are held on with twist locks on each corner and the layer above the lashing platforms are cross lashed to give extra support in rough seas. There has been many container stack falls over the years, the record has been over 520 in one night.

  • @Smidgeon303
    @Smidgeon303 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is preventing the containers from just falling off?

    • @deanocable
      @deanocable  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are locked together with twist locks on each corner like they are on a lorry. Although this holds them together, there is still a possibility they fall off during very rough weather.

      It was a Danish shipping guy, Peter Mærsk Møller, who started the whole company. His son, Arnold Peter Møller, and his son, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller continued and developed the company. The name changed to "Maersk" for international reasons; only Danmark and Norway have the letter "æ" - it was a kind of streamlining the company internationally. Yes, they are loaded.
