Around the 7 min mark when she says, "I'm beautiful" and the crowd erupts. They are erupting a) because she's great, but b) because they have just personally witnessed this character get shoved around and called ugly for 2 hours.
I was there when Fantasia had the role and whew her singing was just… whew no dry eyes. Wish I could’ve gone twice just to see Cynthia because I love her
I won’t forget it either. I’ve been lucky to go to dozens of Broadway shows, and I have never felt a shockwave of emotion blow through the audience the way it did while she sang this. Life changing.
Her voice is amazing. I can't wait for her as Elphaba.. She was great in this show, she sings from beyond her soul....It's one of my favorite song....I FEEL THIS SONG.. I'm still here.
i clicked on this video expecting a reaction to a performance - and instead i got some of the most heartfelt poetic sentiments i've ever heard. cynthia errivo is a gift but so are you, man. thank you for putting this song's message in such beautiful words, i genuinely wish you nothing but the best.
‘Got my children…’ that line is like a knife to my heart for so many very personal reasons. This song and this performance specifically is equal parts torture and pleasure for me. Enjoying spending time with you via TH-cam, thank you as always for sharing your heartfelt and emotional responses. Respect and love.
Cynthia's voice is simply unbelievable. You have to hear her music to understand. She is so authentic...she is able to sing anything. She can sing Disney to Broadway, her range is incredible. She can sing live too and kill it, like here. She is truly a gift to all of us, simple as that.
I saw this live... I was slumped in my chair ,early 20's, my mom was a big Jenifer Hudson fan. I wasn't so excited about musicals. When she sang this, I was at the edge of my seat crying.
This performance gives me goosebumps no matter how many times I’ve seen it (& I’ve seen it A LOT) - she’s unreal 🙌🏼 please watch her Terrell show episode!!
I know a lot of people are mainly looking forward to Ariana singing Glinda in the wicked movie, but Cynthia is why I am going. Her presence and voice are impossible to ignore. She will knock Elphaba out of the park.😊
You NAILED the description of her voice! ❤ so powerful yet gentle all at the same time! I dont know anyone else who has a voice like this! I heard this live and it brought me to my feet and brought tears to my eyes! She earned every bit of that Tony!
When I saw the movie I ugly cried through the whole thing. When I first saw this video for this song, which was not in the movie, I cried again because she absolutely captured all the emotions and feelings of the character Ceelie. If you haven't seen the movie I highly recommend it.
This song and Cynthia’s delivery is so deeply moving each time I watch it. I listen several times a week, especially when things are not going well here. Thank you,for posting this video and for sharing your emotions and thoughts with us. ..it’s always good to know there are others out there who feel the same as we do.
For those who do not understand the context of where this song is in relation to the play. Please just do some research about the play/movie the color purple. It makes this song even more powerful. I had the privilege of seeing Cynthia sing this live on Broadway, and I’ll never forget, there was a man sitting next to me with his two daughters, and when Cynthia sang this, this guy was crying so much. Really powerful moment, cause Cynthia’s character went thru a life that no father would ever want for their child, and must have been moved in a way only parents can imagine. But experiencing this performance live is a moment I’ll never forget.
the amazing thing about this song is - if you're tuned into the right emotional frequency - you don't even need context. The first time I watched the clip of Cynthia (then Fantasia) I cried so hard, even though I never read the book, or watched the movie. Maybe I over-relate as POC who's been called 'ugly' a lot, but I truly believe this song touches *anyone* whose soul is open.
And now she's fu**in ELPHABA!!! AHHHHH!!!!! I literally cannot contain my excitement. She's so perfect in my opinion. She's such a method and deep actress. She won't even sing this anymore unless she feels it's right, this song means so much to her. This role of being called u g l y and disgusting over and over and then finally coming into your own. Wow.
Hello Thanks for the reaction ;) New subscriber, Please don't ignore my request, react to a girl band named 4TH IMPACT at the British X Factor singing "BANG BANG" No.1 most Viewed on X Factor History.
AH! have been trawling through CE's stuff the past couple of days now since I've discovered her (th-cam.com/video/E-Flmo07ddk/w-d-xo.html), which is great to hear her speak on her personal experience playing the character (just for your enjoyment, really); & THEN to find her take on the Streisand!! Just amazing (th-cam.com/video/l8dW8mD0p5c/w-d-xo.html) !!

Being in the audience seeing her sing this song is something I will never forget
Same
I’m so insanely jealous

I cry everytime I hear her sing this! I don’t understand why it happens everytime
I feel so privileged to have seen her in The Color Purple on Broadway.
Not jealous at all
Her voice is amazing. I can't wait for her as Elphaba.. She was great in this show, she sings from beyond her soul....It's one of my favorite song....I FEEL THIS SONG.. I'm still here.
I’ve always loved how her version sounds so triumphant! She’s definitely in a class all her own
Her voice is like a firm yet cozy hug
ITS LIKE A WEIGHTED BLANKET

Her voice is anointed, it goes to one’s soul!
She entered god mode with this performance... amazing

I'm so full of regret that I never saw this show. What an incredible and moving performance!
she has a gift and her voice is just amazing
Yeah she's unreal.
Theyre currently making a film of the color purple and the lead is Fantasia. Her version is also going to rip me apart emotionally.
Wow a year later… Fantascia killed it as well in the film!!!
Both excelled!!!
But you can feel every note of Fantascia’s version
This young lady kills!!!!! anything she touches
I cried watching Fantasia on Broadway AND I cried again sitting in the theater watching the movie

This performance gives me goosebumps no matter how many times I’ve seen it (& I’ve seen it A LOT) - she’s unreal 🙌🏼 please watch her Terrell show episode!!
Her rendition brings tears to my eye each time.
💖💞💖💞💖 I love it when a man allows himself to feel and isn't afraid to express it openly as you just did so candidly. 🥰 And I love Cynthia Erivo too!
I know a lot of people are mainly looking forward to Ariana singing Glinda in the wicked movie, but Cynthia is why I am going. Her presence and voice are impossible to ignore. She will knock Elphaba out of the park.😊
And boy she did!
Girl.. she did!!!! She was insane
