The Oaks are country legends, still going strong on tour. They saw Home Free perform on a TV morning show & contacted them to do a song: HF's choice. HF picked one of their most iconic songs, Elvira. Its been covered & rerecorded by tons of people, famous & not famous over the years. The Oaks & HF have become good friends & have said they see their younger selves in HF & love them like brothers. Pretty Cool! Thx for doing this one!
Richard Sterban was the bass singer for the Oakridge Boys. Before that he was a back up singer for Elvis Presley. The honor of singing with them is huge!
I'm not huge on country music but this was a song that I remember crossed over to the pop charts way back when The Oak Ridge Boys released it in 1981. They sound classic because they themselves are classic. It really is AMAZING how many great works there are out there for those that are willing to sample many different Genres that they might not usually listen to. Just think of all the different sounds we would NOT have today if they weren't calibrated by artists that were willing to experiment and invent them!
The Oak Ridge Boys have been together forever. This song was a hit for them in 1981. The Home Free guys updated it to a more modern arrangement. Which is what they often do. Thank you for your reaction.
The oaks started in Country music about at the same age as the Home Free guys are now. The Oaks saw HF perform and were so9 impressed they asked HF to do a collaboration with them, and this is the results. This song was one of the Oaks biggest hits. Thanks for a really great reaction.
The deep guy from the Oakridge Boys (who are legends and coming to Orange Park in Clay County Florida in July) is Richard Sturben. He’s got one of, if not deepest voices I’ve ever heard. He used do backup for Elvis Presley. If you want to hear more of Richard, listen to the song “Dream on”by the Oakridge Boys. It’s a sweet song, and Richard takes the role of lead vocalist.
It very much is Old Generation, new Generation. The Son is originally by The Oakridge Boys. The Oakridge Boys put out a phenomenal Christmas CD in their day. We have listened to it every Christmas since before I was born. My two favourites on the album are “Jesus Was Born Today” (the low notes are crazy!) And “Christmas Carol” which is a refreshing change from the same old Santa Clause stories making its own, super cute! 😍😊
Home Free won the Sing-Off in 2013. Best to watch the individual performances with the judges comments. Home Free is billed as the world’s only country acapella band, but they can and have done a wide variety of songs from other genres. The Oakridge Boys are a country legend & have been around for many years. They approached Home Free and asked to sing with them. You will be pleasantly surprised when you look into more of their songs, covers and originals by them.
The Oak Ridge Boys are country music royalty who hail from Oak Ridge, Tennessee. They're members of the Grand Ole Opry and everything, and even though Home Free was relatively new, the Oak Ridge Boys reached out to them to do a song together for Home Free's album, which I thought was pretty cool. And this was after the Sing Off, which their season was in I think 2013, maybe 2014.
Great to see a Home Free video. I highly recommend their cover of "What we ain't got". It's one of their older songs, but I think you'd enjoy it. Have a great Mothers'sDay!
The Oak Ridge Boys have classic, old time voices? Yeah, pretty much, lol. They were really big in the 70s, and 80s, especially in the gospel scene. Glad to see they are re-emerging in this production.
This is an original Oak Ridge Boys song from the 80s or so. Jeff from Voiceplay did the arrangement, although it closely follows the original. One thing I really like is the pairings of bass, and tenor and high tenor.
Thanks for the great reaction! I think you're much too young to know the Oak Ridge Boys! But those guys with Home Free are fantastic! In fact for the 1st time ever HF will open for the Oaks on June 21st in Lincoln NE! It is an evening outdoor concert! How great is that for them!
As one of the Sing Off Judges said of them "You're a country group, but you bring so much more than that..." that is sooo true when you see them tackle songs line CSNY "Hopelessly Hoping" and John Mayer's "In the Blood" you see how seriously incredibly flexible and talented these guys... they must be "heard" to be believed..." LOL Great Reaction BTW
hey dear you've on touched the surface on all the stuff they've done. They've covered different styles and types of music, some of their videos include footage of them personally, as well as their significant others. Peter Hollens has collaborated with Tim on a few songs, and Home free on Amazing Grace. Looking forward to it, thanks
Love your reactions! Elvira is definitely as country as it gets and HF does a lot of country, but you should check out some of their other genres such as Butts Remix (pop/hip-hop and funny), Honey I'm Good (new country), All About That Bass (pop?), and Champagne Taste (original and just plain silly). Their Sing Off performances are great and they give you a glimpse into a lot of other styles they do. Keep up the great work!
LOVE watching you react to Home Free and Pentatonix!!! Seeing how much you enjoy those groups, you should REALLY start reacting to Voctave as well. They will blow your mind!! A great one to start with would be Disney Love Medley ft. Kirsten Maldonado (from Pentatonix) and her fiance, Jeremy Michael Lewis. From there, there are all kinds of amazing Disney songs, medleys, and more that you will flip over!!! About the Oak Ridge Boys: as other people have said, they're a country group from the 80s, I actually grew up listening to some of their material. If you like this particular song and their voices, you should check out their song, American Made. Similar sound, very fun and cute song with what they did with the lyrics, cool little breakdown in that one too. Take care!!
Tim was the one doing the bass guitar parts...total bass eargasm with both basses though, plus could feel Tim's bass vibrations coming through the at the end
I'm noticing that Chris Rupp always takes a back seat to the rest of the Home free group but he is actually the heart of the group, he started Home Free and did most of the song arrangements. He is one awesome talented guy.
Great reaction! Just a comment... They(Oaks) have said(saying) that HomeFree is the one that can "carry on their tourch". Looking forward to your next HFreaction ❤
A Classic sound?... Okay, I laughing a little. The Oak Ridge Boys were the classic sound. These boys have been writing country music since the late iron age, by music standards. Home Free is the best new band for this song. Was fun watching your face.
The Oak Ridge Quartet formed in 1947. William Lee Golden, who is still with the group, joined in 1965. The present lineup came together in the early 1970's, and the lineup hasn't changed since 1 January 1996.
You should react to "Tim Foust - Vocal Range (A0-A5) (By Axel Fuentes)" to get an idea how good Tim is and to be able to check out samples of Home Free songs.
The Oak Ridge Boys started out as a Southern gospel group, then branched out into country music. Another collaboration with the two groups is a Christmas song, “Oh Beautiful Star of Bethlehem”, with another singer named Jeffery East. I’m sure you’d like it.
The oak ridge boy's were huge way before you were born LoL 😂, back in the 80s Elvira was one of they're many country Hits, they were one of the original Acapella groups basically
Dallas Frazier wrote, sang, and published "Elvira" in 1966 (on his album by the same name). You can hear him singing it, here: th-cam.com/video/-wjevGsrCEc/w-d-xo.html (In 1966, I was 16, and this is the version I heard from the beginning.) In 1981, The Oakridge Boys picked it up and released it as a Dallas Frazier cover. This next video is a performance that was probably done right around then: th-cam.com/video/-qK-9eIF2yI/w-d-xo.html I never cared for most 80s music, but they were still singing in 60s/70s styles, plus I already knew this one, so it's the version I remember the most. Now, with the Home Free cover, I get the best of all three "worlds," every time I see and hear the video. :-) In case you haven't seen it, you might want to watch this video, where HF is in the studio recording, and they do a bit about when they recorded "Elvira" with the ORB, plus there's a good part with Adam telling how the beatboxing gets into the recordings wit the rest of the tracks: th-cam.com/video/pX92vDQ6kG0/w-d-xo.html Loved your reaction, and thanks for sharing. \0/
Marla Hudgins Just did.. Surprisingly, it did pop up 1945 without any details. So I decided to read more into it, because it still sounded highly suspicious. • The group was originally called *"Wally Fowler and the Georgia Clodhoppers,"* and formed in 1943 in Knoxville, Tennessee. • They were requested to perform to staff members and their families restricted during World War II at the nuclear research plant in nearby Oak Ridge, Tennessee. None of these current Oak Ridge boys were in that original group. • Out of the current members, William Lee Golden (the white bearded guy), was the first to become a member of the Oak Ridge Boys in 1964 as a baritone. He was born in 1939 and is currently 79 years old. He obviously wasn't singing in the original group during the 1940's. • Duane Allen (the guy with the short beard) was the second out of the current members to join. He joined in 1966. Duane was born in 1943 (the year that the original group formed), and he's now 75 years old. • In October 1972, Richard Sterban (bass) joined the Oak Ridge Boys. Richard was also born in 1943 and is 75 years old. • Joe Bonsall (the guy with the mustache) joined the Oak Ridge Boys in October 1973. He was born in 1948 and is 70 years old. Lol I can't believe that they actually did a collab with the Oak Ridge Boys. I was just wondering what it would be like if they did, and of course they chose to do this classic song. I haven't seen it yet. Hopefully they don't butcher it. I actually have a cowboy hat that was signed by the long bearded guy at a concert festival when I was a kid. I wore that hat with a cowboy tux to my 8th grade graduation 12 years ago.

This is the "signature" song for the Oakridge Boys. LOVE THIS, and love that Home Free did this homage.
fun fact for some , Richard Sterban, the bass player for the Oak Ridge boys sung back up with Elvis .
The Oaks are a group of really nice guys. I have met them and had a chance to talk to all of them. Thank you for reacting to this video.
