Today, we talk about the Top 10 Largest Bounties in Speedrunning. Over the last few years, bounties have grown in popularity in the speedrunning community. People are willing to spend money just to see games be pushed to their limit. Bounties generally include breaking a World Record in a specific game, or discovering a glitch and/or skip that might save time in a speedrun. The price tag on these bounties can range anywhere from a couple hundred, to thousands of dollars.

Side Note: Professor_Palmer is looking for someone to translate the English VA onto the Japanese version of Thousand Arms. He's willing to pay whomever is interested, so be sure to contact him on Twitter. This is because the JP version of the game is MUCH faster than the English version, and having English VA/dialogue on the JP version would make this game great for a marathon run (Also once some skips/glitches are found for the game, since he's not an active glitch hunter).

@@want-diversecontent3887 Those are examples of hardware faults, yeah. It just means the software wasn't being properly followed.
@@want-diversecontent3887 if I recall correctly, the cosmic ray bit flip was only a semi-serious proposal from a TH-cam video about cosmic rays, and somebody else figured out a more likely hardware fault that would explain it. Maybe someone actually managed to replicate it, hang on I got to look this up.

There's an absolute massive amount of content to explore as well as the fact there's only Palmer and a Jaoanese runner who've run the game before so there isn't going to be much there to lean on. Guess we'll see what happens!
Also the Japanese runner's run is a trip and a half to watch.
@@TheOfficialDaBoogaloo yeah the JP copy of the game is 50% reduced HP on all enemies. I could probably get it down to sub 7-8 but the run is no fun due to the loss of the hilarious dialogue

@@RanEncounter well the whole charm of the game and the run is the unskippable dialogue. It's written satirically and voice acted. It's easily the absolute best part of the game.

So has the $1000 Pannenkoek SM64 TTC Upwarp bounty ended i’m assuming?
The player who got the upwarp eventually revealed that his SM64 cartridge was faulty and needed to be tilted to even work, which basically confirmed it was a one-off hardware fault and not a reproducible in-game glitch.

the bounty is technically still up as far as I'm aware, but after some testing, the upwarp was the result of a bit flip- so- although it is astronomically unlikely- it could have been caused by something entirely impossible to reproduce, such as a cosmic ray. you can give it a try still:

the TLDR:
memory fails at incredibly low rates, ~10e-14 bit flips per hour. given that N64 has 4mb of ram, the probability that if a memory module fails, it will be the specific leading significant bit at the address containing Mario's height, is 1 in 32 million. multiply that by the odds that a memory module fails in a given hour- 1 in 3 million, about- and you get a very, bad probability of this bit flipping even once in one hour. I'd read panen's description on the second video for more details.

I was hoping to see a bounty for Conker's Bad Fur Day. That's the game I run. There's very few glitches, and you basically have to play the game start to finish as it currently stands. I've searched and searched for usable glitches or skips, and nothing has come up. It seems very unbreakable at this point.

In general the content these guys make is fascinating. However, can we all take a moment to really appreciate the ad placement in these videos. The ads don't cut off an idea or interrupt any sentences, they are placed perfectly in the empty space between segments.

on the topic of the floating fallout glitch, I had the same thing randomly happen to me while i was speed running dishonored 2. a cutscene ended early and then i could go through walls. i have it recorded on twitch, but i couldnt replicate it at all. the only thing i noticed was i didnt have my weapons or magic visable but were still useable, then after an amount of time i fell to the ground, i assume i was able to move around while the cutscene was playing, then dropped afterwards

i know that in fallout 4 when youre in a settlement if you can see a chair on the other side if the wall you can clip though it by sitting on the chair. i used to do this to make shortcuts in my base.

Iirc the most plausible explanation was cartridge tilt, because apparently if you flip one bit it becomes possible

Xem92 (TH-camr/Streamer) has a bounty on Ratchet and Clank 3 UYA. The bounty is to just beat his record. He's had WR in the ng+ catagory for years, and by quite a bit. He's basically a God at the game.

The 120 star bounty might as well be someone offering punkayshun $4000 to beat cheese. There's only 2 people within a minute of cheese's time.
Woah, this gave me an idea
A website that allows people to list speedrun bounties for a small fee ($1-$2) so that they can be more easily found. Bounties with a higher reward get priority, so that there's more contention and higher chance of that thing being found. Website owner gets small fee from the posted bounties, and income from ads
I once suggested that whoever is the first to get the Golden Strawberry in Celeste's Chapter 9 DLC should get a few thousand dollars, without knowing that such bounties actually existed in speedrunning. Then I have this video recommended to me.
Distortion2 offered 500 dollars IIRC if someone could find a way to mod in binoboost/parrywalk to Dark Souls 2 current patch so it would be possible to use the glitches in the DLCs. Since it's modding it doesn't fit into the list, but it's the speedrun-related bounty I'd most like to see done.

I can't believe the DQ3 bounty wasn't included. It's a $1000+ bounty. I think cyghfer or tonic would be the ones who are in charge of it.

I skipped the injectors in BL2 only problem is, it wasn't intentional, I was just messing around, I rocket/grenade jumped up behind the entrance doors, got stuck in a small area, continued grenade jumping around, finally got unstuck, and I was exploring the out of bounds, grenade jumping out to land on further pieces of floor textures and I ended up triggering the end cutscene where they take off with the vault key. IDK how I did it but it makes me assume theres a trigger floating out of the map that you can grenade jump to. (Was salvidore tho and was doing the double grenades and double badaboom[I believe was badaboom] rockets for one jump outward)
I can say personally say that the fallout 4 terminal glitch is also possible to do in fallout 76. Its terrifying because its possible to do accidentally and with the possibilty of being banned means no one is mentioning it.

The $4000 bounty is literally insane. I'd love to compete but i never did a speedrun in my life and haven't even played Mario64. I also don't own a CRT nor a N64. If there was a realistic chance that i would win, i'd do it though.

11 dollars; Super Mario sunshine
Runner AssassinJacob420 had just started his stream for the day, and was waiting on the title screen when he noticed something was off. Mario's starting position in the opening demo was off by a single subpixel, something that is not usually supposed to in normal gameplay. Jacob spent his entire stream trying to replicate the glitch, but was unable to get anything to happen. At the end of his stream, he got on a discord call with some of the top runners of the time. They decided that they would all chip in their allowances and put up a bounty that would be given to the first person to find an accurate explanation for why the glitch occurs. The sum of all their money totalled in at a whopping 11 dollars and 63 cents. Nearly two years after the glitch first occurred on stream, the bounty was claimed by viewer and tas creator Reggie fils Amie. Reggie was the first person to make the astute observation that the glitch was most likely caused by an error in the game's code. Just Two weeks after his Twitter post explaining why the glitch happens, he posted a video on TH-cam of himself preforming the glitch on the NTSC version of the game. Reggie found out that to preform the glitch, you must put your Nintendo GameCube™ into the microwave for exactly 900 frames, then start the game immediately after. As it turns out, Jacob would often lose runs to cold hands, so he started microwaving his controller before the start of his streams. It's currently unknown why this caused the glitch to occur, since all currently understood setups for the glitch involve microwaving the console. At first people were sceptical, but soon enough videos of prominent Sunshine legends getting the glitch to work for themselves started appearing, and more consistent setups were found. The glitch is still used in speedruns to this day, saving almost 7 hours from an hour long run. After receiving his prize money, Reggie moved to silicon valley to live the life of an 11 dollar man, and sunshine has since grown to be the most viewed speedrun on twitch, with an average of 7 billion viewers every day.
