Then the next day it slid out of a nook in my car. This time I repeated the same. And sure enough someone turned it in from the Aldi parking lot where I lost it! Nothing was taken from the billfold! Ellis died two years later and Lonnie passed two years after that. The last to go was Thomas II...the world is poorer for their passing
The most ironic thing i noticed about all the great vocal groups the only thing that stops them from touring is death a lot of them even tho they were way up in age and sickly they would still stumble on the tour bus to go on the road
@@thebassman5820 Spreading The Gospel in song. If one is called by ALMIGHTY GOD only death should part you and the work HE gave one to do. Moses never retired, neither Abraham, Samuel, Elijah, Elisha, David and the list goes on. The LORD GOD OF HOST is their Sustainer.
In 1975, Mr Johnson lost his leg in a car accident, and doctors said he would not be able to sing again because of his damaged diaphragm! BUT GOD!!!! ❤
I really miss these guess. I saw them in the late 70's or early 80's when I was just a little kid. I remember them singing "Only Believe." Ellis Johnson had an incredible bass. You will never find a great bass like this again. My dad collected old programs from their anniversaries in the 70's & they listed all former members around that time. Does anybody know if any of the other members are still alive (besides Gospel Joe, Ellis, Lonnie & Thommy)?
Ellis was so great, I hate he was injured in the accident, but he didn't let that stop him. The doctors told him he wouldn't sing again, but he showed them. God doesn't stop his music. Ellis would walk out on stage with his walker and sing out of his very soul until he passed away later in life. God is so good.
I can remember as a child sitting around the record player listening to this song. My Dad, the late Don Taylor, and his brothers used to share the stage with groups like The Harmonizing Four, The Swan Silvertones, and The Soul Stirrers in the fifties. I've been trying to find videos of this group. Did they sing "Farther Along" on this program? Or does anyone have them singing that song? I'd sure love to see it.
I totally agree with you. My Dad had a great bass as well. In fact, one of his signature songs with his brothers was "Farther Along" which he got from Jimmy Jones. However, Ellis was a great replacement for Jones. If you can find him singing "Steal Away", he hits a real low note at the end of that song.

@KenLove291 So do i,Ken. I don't have a video of them singing When They Ring Those Golden Bells but i have two audio recordings of them singing that song. The Four recorded Golden Bells twice-the first being in 1962 on the VeeJay record label and the second being in 1971 on the Checker Record label.

Is there a platform where you can post the full program I would pay to see and have a copy of this program let me know I'm a huge harmonizing four fan and I'm coming out of this generation I'm 18
Actually, this is Ellis Johnson bassing on this song. He replaced Jones in the sixties. But you are right about the fact that Jones has a sweet bass voice. His was a little heavier and more full than Johnson's but I don't think the group could have gotten a better replacement for Jones than Johnson.
Yes I do. For most of my clips I have the full program. I do not post full programs on this platform though. As time allows, I try to post historical significant moments within the genre for preservation sake and to share with the world. Thanks so much for watching.

Great Bass singer. Has very good control of his voice. Good timbre in the voice. I think Issac Freeman's voice is a bit heavier.
