Well, it looks like I sort of painted myself into a corner. Unfortunately, it's not too well-known here. Most of us in the US, at least are very closed-minded when it comes to what games we try out (won't dare to leave the consoles or even acknowledge the home computers of the day). All of my friends and even my siblings are familiar with this song and most of them love it immensely, but that's more so due to listening to me constantly talking about various Amiga/C64/Atari ST games. 0_o
Vuchs do you mean the Game Boy version of R-Type III? Because if so, you have to play an other version too. This was the most horrible port I've ever played. The original for the SNES was light years better, it almost seems that the guys who ported this didn't know shit about shmups at all.
I've never left North America but this MEANS THE WORLD TO ME!!!!!!!!! I think the Chris Huelsbeck theme is far better than the original, at least in my honest opinion. Hell, I like it more than the game itself, actually!
I thought you meant the title music in the original arcade version (first song in this video: watch?v=EZ_ZAPjTV3E). Yeah, the stage 1 music is awesome (especially in R-Type III, I really agree with you there). As to it sounding like a credit roll more than a stage, that would make sense because it plays during the opening credits; the first stage has the same music. ;)
