Prelude To Madness are a rendition of Edvard Grieg's In The Hall Of The Mountain King (1875) from the Peer Gynt Suite. The intro are taken from Gustav Holst The Planets. Mars The Bringer Of War. If you like Criss Oliva guitar check out I Believe from their debut album Sirens. A lot of solos
YES!! Finally, a reaction to BOTH the Prelude (not Perlude, lol) To Madness and HOTMK!! And I second NicoDarkhope's recommendation of the "cover" of PTM by the Savatage "spin-off" project, TSO (Trans-Siberian Orchestra). Good call on the JOP pick as well ; Through The Eyes Of The King is said to be a sequel to Savatage's HOTMK.
You need to check out Streets a Rock Opera along with Dead Winter Dead By Savatage close to albums need to be listened to an entirety because they tell a story😅 I'm an old metal head I remember when Savatage from 1979😅
You weren't even born yet probably. Lol I am 60 years old. This is one of the First videos they played in Headbangers ball on MTV back when they actually played music.
Try "the mountain" it's the "Perlude To Madness" version of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra from Night Castle album 🤘 And "Through the Eyes of the King" of Jon Oliva's Pain band. It's sound same like "Hall of the Mountain King" 😉
@@tdonger No, it's off by just a smidge. I have worked with audio for 40 years, self-taught engineering and editing, and my ears are trained to pick up on little nuances that most people never notice, like speed/pitch changes and foreign sounds that do not belong (pops, clicks, etc). To be sure, I went and checked the source video used in this reaction, and checked other uploads of this song : - the source video still sounds a tad off, just as it does in this reaction... - another source (I chose the 2 separate videos used in The Daily Doug's reaction episode 306, from 2022-JAN-10) sounds more like it/they should... I also attempted to check the running times of these videos compared to the CDs - and barring mute space or other interruptions (such as the commercial ad on this reaction), I found : - The combined running time on the CD copies I have are roughly 8.45 (3.09 + 5.36) on my original HOTMK 1987 release, and 8.46 (3.13 + 5.33, track mark shift) on the 2011/2012 reissue ; this source video is 8.50, which clearly indicates a slight increase of 4 or 5 seconds, suggesting a slower pitch/speed... - The 2 videos have a combined play time of 8.47 (3.14 + 5.33)... - My own cleaned-up edit from the original CD (cutting off the silence and mute section at the start/end of the track[s]) left 8.42 of actual sound (measurable on most sound meters beginning at -50dB) from start to finish... Conclusion : the source video in this reaction runs at least 3 to 5 seconds longer than all other sources, clearly indicating a longer playback, due to a slower pitch/speed. A few seconds may not sound like a lot, but trust me, it is, and makes a difference. My recent work with fixing audio sync in movies has proven just how much even a fraction of a single second can make ; as little as 250ms (¼ of a second) can make a difference. Final verdict : This recording is "off". And if you cannot notice that, then your ears are defective, lol. Poor audio reception is likely due to listening to watered-down compressed MP3s at less than 128 kbps bitrates online and on Mickey Mouse toys like MP3 walkmans and phones/mobile devices, rather than the high quality fidelity of proper recordings (CDs) and their lossless digital copies (WAVs) on/through quality equipment. Maybe ditch the iTunes and Spotify streaming garbage and get back to physical media and proper stereo systems, preferably the impeccable vintage stuff from the 80s or 90s, or the aughts at the latest, before they too got the Fisher-Price treatment of comprised/suffered quality.
@@BlackieNuff Ok. Fair enough. I can say that' I've been listening to this song/band for 40 years as well and have a very good ear for music. I have noticed other songs being a little "off" sometimes but this one doesn't sound off to me. But.... I'm certainly open to the possibility that I could be wrong.. You could be right.... it still sounds good though.
@@tdonger Just listening to music doesn't make you as familiar with it as someone who actually works with it in editing capacities. When you get into editing, and strive to make clean, seamless edits and splicing, you adapt a whole new method of listening and you start hearing things most casual listeners will never hear, largely cos you are not consciously listening for it. That could be why you don't hear what I hear, despite our shared 40+ years of listening to the stuff. I started dabbling in custom edits (very crude efforts with less than adequate equipment) almost from the beginning, and over the years as the equipment and my skills got better, the nuances and the layers of the sound stood out. So that's all it is. Sometimes I envy you casual listeners cos those little imperfections get by you and so you are not bothered by them, but for me, I cannot stop listening for all the smallest imperfections. Even when I try not to pay attention, my subconscious is still detecting a glitch here and a flaw there. It's like what has been heard cannot be unheard, lol. Cheers.

Criss was such an amazing guitarist, in the same class as Randy and EVH! Unfortunately, he was tragically killed by a drunk driver in 1993 so sad!
Absolutely, Criss was a beast as a player 🤘
R I p
Saw these guys live back in the day. Had this exact album in the '80's.🍻

I dunno if it's the "translation" of the recording of this video, but this Savatage offering sounds a bit sped-up, the pitch/speed is up a bit.
Ya think so ? It sounds right to me
