      I remember picking it up the day it dropped and listening to it front to back. My honest opinion at the time was that it wasn't that good, the reality is that it was so far advanced from anything else being put out in so many ways made it almost too much in the moment. I think it was about a year later I revisited it and absolutely fell in love with the production as well as the changing style of the rhyme schemes. It is among the top of my favorite albums list right next to It Takes A Nation from Public Enemy.

      @@PuffinPass It's funny how it turned out to be exactly the same pattern for so many of us. I think the late 80's were just not vibing with 70's funk grooves, and one year later, it just felt different for some reason. At least, that's how I remember it.

      I bought the Paul's Boutique tape and friends laughed at me for buying it. When they came over to party, I'd play it half way through the evening and they jammed to it. Nothing else was like it.

    When I was 14 back in 1990 I remember chatting to a guy (another teenager) while we were waiting for the train and he was listening to Paul's Boutique on his Walkman, without hesitation he handed me the tape ... I have many good memories of tapes being passed around when I was a teenager, I had heard of the Beastie Boys but it wasn't until I heard Paul's Boutique that I became a fan. I never realized that it wasn't a huge hit at the time.

    39:40 - not a huge fan personally of the whole Tibet thing, and not a huge fan of much of the music and Beasties in general after this point - BUT...... i do have TREMENDOUS RESPECT for young men who grow up , can realize and accept there is something greater outside of yourself, and there is a greater good we all need to explore , know, and seek after as a process of becoming more human (and virtuous).

  • @earthcitizen3939
    @earthcitizen3939 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Paul's Boutique is good, but Check Your Head is better. Those are two different albums, PB is sample heavy while CYH is more dependent on live instruments. Eventually it depends on what you prefer I'm more into live instruments I guess.
    Thanks to whoever put this up on TH-cam.

    I never realised pauls botique was at some point not considred killa!!???? In Australia obviously the more non mainstream the band, the harder to get albums and info bout bands ( pre google era for all you youngstas'- yes there was a time with no internet or iphones). We'd be chekin music stores every few days to see when albums dropped, especially foriegn bands like bboys or uk bands... [ R.I.P. MCA]
