It would be really cool if there was a "walk in place" version of this available for VR! No one's cracked the code on how to walk around in virtual reality (that feels natural and doesn't take up half your living room) _yet,_ but maybe it could be done with reverse-moonwalker shoes?

Its a really cool concept, but there are still some crucial pieces of information that seems to be lacking from this presentation:
How fast are they when compared to walking normally? Do you have a side by side comparison?
Is there a weight limit for the optimal way of using these devices?
How long is the battery life?
    Are they water proof?
    Are they usable off-road?
How easily can they break if used incorrectly?
    You know, the basics.

They're twice to three times as fast as walking normally. Wired's video does a good job at comparing.
Any adult should be able to use it. Obviously over 250 pounds nothing is guaranteed.
The battery range is 6 miles.
They are waterproof but only splashes and puddles, not continuously submerged.
They can be used on rough terrain but are not designed for it.
Not sure about durability or repairability.

Also, a 'clip harness' which could adapt to any shoe, with the 'binding' on the wheeled unit, so you have a simple step-click on, release off, a bit like a ski binding, leaving your shoes walkable, and multiple harnesses to just leave on multiple pairs of shoes.

I actually do choose to commute via public transportation and a lot of times I choose to walk some of the distances instead of catching the bus just because I enjoy walking. With these I could go a lot farther without raising my heart rate too much like running does. I’m not really sure why so many people are hating on these. Sure I could just run if I wanted to go faster but not everyone has the endurance to be able to run for miles. So this gives average people the opportunity to walk to places they never could before. Once you can run in them, off-road will be in high demand and then, you should probably consider developing a manual system.

Nice and good. But don't think that the Moonwlkers will give you a time advantage if you're mostly on very busy sidewalks or very busy pedestrian zones. As is usually the case in a city. Because when walking fast, it is almost impossible to avoid oncoming people so quickly. On the contrary, I think the Monnwalkers pose more of a danger there, because many overestimate themselves and this can lead to more collisions with potentially dangerous consequences. And the time advantage of the speed that can be implemented there is negligible. More for people who live in the country or have a commute to work where nothing is going on. For the bike path, they are too slow.

LOL. this reminds me of the old Steve Martian movie "The Jerk" where Martian invents a very practical way to keep eye glasses from slipping down on ones nose and makes millions, until it makes everyone cross eyed. My guess, that within a year or two, folks will be having issues with ankle, knee, hip, ligament damage, and then the parasite lawyers will creep out of the gutters and do class action law suits. I am almost 70 and walk 25 to 27 miles a week in the hills of northern Colorado wearing mostly sandals. clever idea. good luck.

Paris had multiple speed moving sidewalks in the 1890s - and the same sort of people posting here said 'wow, fantastic!' at the time. You'll notice we don't have multiple speed moving sidewalks today. This sounds like a fun toy for an hour or so (so $700 an hour), but that's about it. Plus the injury potential you talk about, the law cases from 'walking' into other people, the very limited surfaces it can (practically) handle and so on.
I'd love to try them for a few minutes....but this is a PT Barnum (there's one born every minute) product if ever there was one.

I hope they do studies for people like me. I have musculoskeletal pain in my low back and feet. This could be the first step (no pun intended) to help people that have difficulty walking.
I'd like to be able to see how this would work for me at work. I'm constantly on my feet as a nurse. And my back hurts and being able to just suddenly sit down would be helpful too. I can't take a stool with me in every room but I could just lean back on something so small. As if I'm floating on air. I've seen a prototype.
