Can you put a DSLR lens on a cheap USB webcam

Just out of curiosity I wondered if we would be able to get an image from the cheap sensor in a USB webcam if we attached a DSLR lens to it.

Nice one! I was thinking about trying this to get the zoom effect, so my question is pretty much answered with no disassembly required. BTW, I feel like this is a potential way to recycle old SLR lenses... I can't be the only person with a drawer full of them, can I?

The problem is once you remove the little lens from the webcam, in the back of that lens there's a IR filter, when you remove it you pretty much turn this webcam into a Night Vision Camera, for this reason after you add the DSLR lens the tractor has that redish color. Youa have 2 options now, or add a IR light and try it at night or add an IR filter in between the webcam and the DSLR lens.

You are 100% correct there Gabriel,the correct distance for the sensor to be from the lens is the focal length of the lens. In case of a zoom lens it would be at the smallest number from the sensor e.g. 80 - 200,the lens would be at 80mm at its nearest to the sensor. I have seen this work so many times on TH-cam.

Hi, thank you for your effort, i think that the goal from this diy project is to create a webcam that will allow us to zoom in and zoom out. And you didnt show if we can do this.

Not entirely pointless but it does show how some people do the same experiment but come up with different results,it's the little details that makes the difference.

No,not dishonest,just that the person doing the experiment don't know enough about cameras and how they function. He removed the filter and did not disable the L E Ds on the webcam. I think if he had done it right it would show a big improvement in picture quality because of the quality of the photo lens.
