- Miss America 2016, the 89th Miss America pageant, was held at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Sunday, September 13, 2015. Kira Kazantsev of New York crowned successor, Betty Cantrell of Georgia at the end of the event. It was broadcast on ABC and streamed to mobile devices and Xbox 360 consoles via the WatchABC app.

I saw Betty on Say Yes To The Dress and her family is so lovely and supportive of her. She is highly intelligent and has a magical aura. She looked absolutely stunning in the dress she chose, and I'm glad she's come so far.

I like Vanessa Williams, she has an amazing aura! She seems to be a tough judge at first but later on I see kindness in her eyes.
The way Alabama answered really irritates me because saying that "all lives matter" yes they do but the problem has the black community. Saying that "all lives matters" is like telling the black community to shut up about their problems. "Black lives matter" was created because of the police brutality towards them. It was made to Bring awareness towards the problem. They are not a hate group. Please no hate this is my opinion after all

Totally agree, what a lot of people fail to realize is that "black lives matter" was created to say "all lives matter" so don't disregard the black community's discrimination. The context of black lives matter is to say that all lives matter even the black communities. Hope that made sense

that tom brady question was a stupid question to begin with. WTF? how is she supposed to know shit. He asking her to solve a case or something.
It was a dumb question, but it had all the information she needed to formulate a semi-educated response (something more than "I'd have to be there to personally test the ball before I pass any judgment but I'm going to pass judgment anyway since apparently there's question about it".)
Blows my mind that she won.

ILove Mississippi, she should try out for Miss Usa, she is gorgeous and smart and I would really love to see her in action during a year as a reigning Miss Usa.
I don't even know why these pageants are talked so bad about nowadays. And how they are seen as sexist and demeaning.I actually enjoy watching them.And would love to be in one, as I am a teenage female.Yeah, so the questions and answers are sometimes weird awkward, but it is a part of this historic pageant.I love them!!!

All lives matter but considering the recent violence towards African Americans it is important that the fact that Black Lives Matter is illuminated and spread throughout this wonderful but sometimes cruel world. That is what I would say if I was competing in the pageant and I was asked that question. How about you?
exactly wat i was thinking. all lives matter but given th current circumstances the focal point is black lives mattering. taking on one problem at a time is th most effective way to get results, just like if a crisis arose threatening white lives, or Asian lives or native american lives. they would and should all get their own section of focus.
I'm sorry...Ellen DeGeneres on an American bill...?? i love her, but she has had no role in the shaping of the American government. Hardly a worthy candidate for the face of a Federal Reserve Note.
It's a very far out answer, but at least she provided good reasoning behind it. That's more important than what the answer is.

Miss Louisiana’s answer was the best she should have won. Very applicable now as well.
The on stage questions are the hardest part of any pageant. It is really hard to think that quickly on your feet.

these are actually mostly pretty intelligent answers. The football one was a mess (but it was difficult), and Ellen really shouldn't be on any bill, but the other answers were very decent

I agree with Miss South Carolina. A ban on military style weapons isn't the answer, however education (and to add on to her answer) stricter gun control laws is. A lot of people in this country have no business owning a gun and there should be strict background checks for buying guns in not just your regular gun shops but also in gun shows because that's where people associated with gun violence most likely buy their guns. That and the black market, but that's a whole other topic. Despite the fact that she stuttered on her answer she spoke quite well.
I think Mississippi and Alabama did great in this round.

That question definitely was supposed to be a trick question to screw someone over because it's one of those questions where you would've had to be there to form the best response. Still she could've answered better than that.

Miss Mississippi was the only girl out of the seven contestants who actually nailed the question.
She absolutely nailed that question. Strong opinion, kept it under 20 sec, and she didn't stutter at all. Perfect!

Miss South Carolinas answer was on point and I completely agree. You can tell how much that pissed off the liberal anti gun chick because she was expecting some convoluted answer than would further her ultra liberal anti gun agenda, and instead received a well thought out and intelligently delivered answer. Miss Connecticut ... many, many, many years ago so the Southern girls apparently know something about pageants that many girls in other regions are missing. But ... it's just a pageant.
Timothy Spruill pageants are a huge thing here in the south, so they’re probably more prepared for this than northern contestants are
