I have the exact same scar and it is due to an operation to fix a broken middle hand bone. It was swollen for a pretty long time and the bone is still slightly deformed today. Back then I was able to start serious weight training again after 3-4 weeks.
The pain stops at the operation but the internal scar has a slow healing process and that made it swelled.
That won't stop him fighting though.
Didn't break the same bone, but I do have a boxer fracture that "healed" out of place, and depending on Ganes recovery, speaking from my own experience, I'm 100% going to reinjure/re-break the bone if it impacts on anything remotely as dense as the bone that broke.
Shitty position to be in when your injured hands gona take some impact regardless
Yea he had surgery like 2 days after the Tai Tuivasa fight
I have that same deformation after a classic boxer's break. After landing a punch on the top of my sparring parters head I broke it and it healed up just fine, despite the big lump on top of my hand. I've had zero issues with it outside of it looking a bit strange.
It’s a swollen knuckle lol
Yeah I had a similar injury but it was on my fourth one. Luckily for me it wasn't bad enough to need surgery but it was definitely fractured. I had a knot on that part of my hand for quite a while. Long after it had healed.
Hey Doc, was wondering if you could go over Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in a tweet or video! Was recently “diagnosed” and feel like I’m not getting the proper care/information regarding the syndrome. I’m 22 and have had 4 acl reconstructions (2 in each knee) and 6 total knee surgeries. The CRPS came about after my last ACL surgery back in December. Keep doing what you’re doing. Love the content and the commitment. 💪🏼👍🏼
I have a similar injury that messed with me for years and the scar tissue took years to break away before I felt myself again. It lowered my self esteem for years especially since I went to school for something that required a lot of drawing. 10 years later it has become normal and feels normal and like it never happened unlike the 6 years after the injury. Feels stronger now and like it never happened now
I punched a side of a house as hard as I could one time and my hand was a balloon. my pinky finger could never close for months and then randomly it could one day 6 months later. strange how that happens.
@Brent Moses interesting. and happy it healed completely. now please don't do that again
Thanks doctor! As a guy that loves science and sports your channel is a real treat!
Gane brought up the hand in an interview. He said he would have preferred 1 more month to heal but felt fine to fight
One more month to train for Jones not because of his hand.
@oxy lebowski Jon has no way of winning even if Gane was one handed.
@Fried Motherboardslmao ur a casual 4sure
@Ernest Walker jones is not 23 and coked up anymore
My buddy has the same break and after 2 years he still has that build up on his hand, not too worried
I have it you can break it easily but still can use it fully
Mine went away quick and only came back when I broke it again, so you never know.
Yea hand injuries really always heal different. I broke my pink and pinky knuckle and it functions great but that part of my hand looks absolutely mangled. On my other hand I broke it in 3 places and looks absolutely fine lol
Broke my knuckle a couple months ago now I think or at least jammed or dislocated it. Knuckle still looks pushed back only about an 8th of an inch but there's still a lump protruding vertically on the top side of my hand that looks to be just behind where the knuckle should be. No pain anymore but it still feels stiff and foreign moving in some angles.
Can confirm everything the doc said, broke my 4th metacarpal over 10 years ago and the scarring is outrageous
What about the swelling?
@Uncle Howie it's more so the scar tissue that builds up because that area has very thin-skin and not much mass so it'll stand out way more
@Uncle Howie my swelling went down fast but Ciryl's hand still looks jacked
no
I suffered a similar fracture in the most random way. My dog (70lbs Red nose pit ) didnt want to go in his cage since he knew we were leaving the house and started to run upstairs. I stupidly tried to dive and grab his back legs as he ran up the stairs. Missed his legs and caught the wooden steps with the back of my dominant hand. Broke middle and hairline fractured the index and ring metacarpal in one go. I couldnt hold up a dinner plate for 3 weeks and had to learn how to carry around my 4 month old and change her diapers with one hand and a forearm. I met my Uncle who I was named after, at the bone doctor . He broke his ankle on a pot hole the previous day smh...
I know this is going the sound a bit unbelievable but I'll write my story with my broken hand. One time when I was very angry I punched the wall pretty hard. At the time I didn't really feel anything serious, I just felt an expected pain which lasted for a couple days, and eventually it healed, or so I thought. About 1.5 years later I noticed an uncomfortable feeling when I grabbed a dumbbell. I looked at my hand (the inside part) and it looked like there is a little pimple at the root of my middle finger. Long story short, I didn't do anything about it for another additional year, but at that point it became worse and worse. This part is disgusting so don't read it if you have a weak stomach. Again, long story short, I grabbed some sharp tools I found at home and I took out a tiny piece of bone out of my hand, where was this "pimple" looking thing. So most likely that part of bone was in my hand for 2.5 years after I punched the wall.
I had a similar injury. I was sitting next to my wife and she spilled her tea. The resulting hand and bottle exposed my skin and fractured the bone. Days later she announced was pregnant and my bone was down from then.
On par breakdown, thanks doctor. That is not by any means a liability going in to the fight.
Your content is consistently of the very highest quality. Thank you 🙏🏾
Look at the knuckle, it's seriously recessed. The lump is the bone overlapping itself from the compression break, leaving the knuckle subsumed into the hand. I have exactly the same break and knuckle position.
Can you discuss Jon Jones issue with his toe. Sounds like he broke his toe in the Chael Sonnen fight years ago, but is now "healed" yet describes excruciating pain on his toe when he pivots on it. He says he must tape it now or else he hurts alot, they almost made him take off the tape before he entered the octagon. Any remedies? Anyway he can get this fixed thru surgeries?
I'd like to hear about more hand and wrist injuries.
I broke bones in my hand on a trampoline one time
I broke my 5th metacarpal ... 10 years ago and there is still a lump there, remember when a bone heals it does create a lump, sure there's a possibility of some sweeling obviously, but it is possible that it healed like that
The fact you made a video about this alone is cause for concern. Jones elbows to the hand TKO
Excellent comment. You win.
it’s easy clicks, hed be missing out if he didn’t
Did you even watch the vid?
Finger pokes to right hand
Best comment
I don't want anyone to lose their opportunity to fight but I am crazy excited at the prospect of Sergei Pavlovich possibly getting to fight one of these guys for the heavyweight belt..
Let's fookin go
Thank you Dr, beautiful explanation 👌
I broke my hand 5 years ago and still have that bump.
Same
He just said during the pre fight presser that it’s “fine”, and “100%”, so look for the injury to be the reason for Johnny Bones beating the brakes off “cereal”. (As jones calls him)
I took a fall from almost 20' 2-years later.
I think I broke a rib or 2. Not sure. But I couldnt take deep breaths for COUPLE months & NUMBNESS in upper left side of my chest. But eventually I got all feeling back
Bro what? 😂 are you trolling ? What does that have to do with anything? …. “Yea, I had my leg blown off in Iraq, it never grew back , Ik we are talking about hands but u still thought I’d share “ like what?🤨
You should review the injury that occurred to Brandon Clarke of the Memphis Grizzles tonight.
Lets keep in mind he broke his hand on tuivasas head and still kept hitting him with it
Scar tissue takes a while to heal it can still swell up a little from irritation . I had surgerybon my knuckle and I know from experience
You explained that fantastically!!! Thanks
hey doc do you think you could go over medial plica syndrome. I had a surgery for it and my knee has been much better since then. But its still a little confusing to me exactly what it is
Doc! I wish you were my anatomy prof!! Great job on these videos!!
Was hoping you would make a video on this. Thank you!! You’re the best!
When was the surgery and what was the recovery timeline?
You could say his chances of winning are now all Gane lol 😂
Jon jones on a bad night still pulls off wins , its gonna be a good one for sure. Hope someone finally wins against jones but geez it seems unlikely 😂
If Gane wins it'll be so Cyril
@Cory Fusting to paraphrase knights of the round table man isn’t Sir Lancelot he’s Cyr Gancelot 😂
Thanks for the vidéo. Great content. He said in a french interview that he broke his plate during the recovery
Man, I was having a pretty good day until I saw this news. I'm happy I hear it from you though Doc instead of some uninformed random online
What about the swelling obscuring the knuckle of his ring finger?
thanks doc! this one was super clear
Oh god i thought he was gonna win until this video. Main reason why is because how recent of the surgery is.
is this a possible explanation as to why he put 0 hands on Jones last night?
Jon is such a nice guy that he didn't even give Gane a chance to hurt his hand.
Actually sounds like he knows what he's talking about 👍🏽
Well, what better fight to have a busted hand? He didn't even get to use the hand once!
Or maybe it just looks like that from previous injuries. My hand looks deformed from previous injuries but it’s fine.
Damn. This guy works fast
I took a scroll though his Instagram and his hand look similar in photos presumably before his fight camp even began. Just after the upcoming fight got announced.
Look at his right hand in the photo he did for GQ. Very noticeable if you zoom in.
You should look into sadio mane’s injury
It’s was a weird one
Jones in the pool.
Gane's hand.
Sounds like an excuse just in case a loss happens 😂
i have same type of bump and look of swelling, just lil more towards the pinking finger, do to 3 surgeries for boxing injuries i sustained before i was 18 years old.
Gane is +155 in betting i cant believe why he would be underdog but if his hand is messed up i can see it
This just tells me someone is going to have an excuse for losing a fight.
Even his knuckles aren’t showing though to me that seems like a lot of swelling over his whole hand to be just scar tissue
We will know after the fight. If GANE wins.
If he loses maybe he still tells us
My brother has a metal plate right there now. Swells every time he spars. But he said it don't hurt. I think he will b fine
I'm still running with the fact that if Gane wins, I can troll Jon Jones fans and say he beat him with one hand.
I hope Gane pulls out and let the backup fight Jones 😂
Head. Shaft. Bone. I already knew you were a better man than I but if you did that in one take you’re also too mature for me 🤣🤣
I thought it to be worse during press. Look like a great place for jone to target.
I think he'll break his hand in the fight. Small gloves and heavy hands.
Doc, isn’t the 5th metacarpal fx a barroom fx and the 2nd is a boxer’s fx?
No wonder people started switching to Jones being the favorite in the fight. I hadn't watched all the interviews etc I'm just seeing now "great"
I'm not fighter but I got the same in my left hand finger long ago but I never go to a doctor or hospital for it and I'm fine
YEAR 2033: After the metacarpal surgery with the metal alloy implant, my hands are stronger and more powerful. The reinforced bones have given me a new level of confidence and ability to deliver stronger punches. It's a game-changer for anyone looking to take their performance to the next level.
He’s holding the mike in that hand. I think he will be fine
Respectfully, there’s no way that I look at this and think: “There’s nothing wrong with this hand currently, it’s expected to look like this after a surgery.” No shot
Jon by eye poke to the hand, still hope gane wins
There will never be a year like 2022 for ufc that had the be the greatest year for the company
I was worried for gane before this video
The truth is here! Thanks Doc!
Big difference here, just because it's "normal" doesn't mean it's ready to receive heavy impact again.
Think what u want, JIRI PROCHAZKA didnt VOLUNTARILY forfeit his BELT to keep from holding up the DIVISION. They told him he had to.
Dana accidentally gave that detail up when he said " being the stud he is, he wanted to fight with 1 arm.
He broke his hand in the Tai Tuivasa fight hopefully that is just residual from surgery
Smdh. Either don't fight, or keep it to yourself. I hate when folks have an excuse prepared before the fight even happens. Now either way it goes people are going to question the results and automatically want a rematch.
If you still want to fight with a swollen hand, say you got stung by a bee or some bs like that.
How can he keep it to himself? He told about the surgery on Helwani show after UFC paris in september. The JJ fight wasn't planned yet
I hope that's NOT scaffoid fracture.
That would stay swollen
Noone is worried about that. He's gonna need more than his two hands to beat jon. Jon's gonna rag doll him and wrestle eff him until he chooses to sub or finish gane.
Game said during an interview in french that he had a plate then the surgeon removed it.
He would have not signed on to this fight if his hand was messed up.
It's the championship and huge money. He may also think he can beat Jones with his kicks, knees, left and elbows.
Francis signed and fought Gane with a torn MCL, ACL.
Guys fight with injuries all the time...
doctor, my hand once punched the wall so hard and obviously, it got swelled, pain and stuff, now that was 7 months ago (i didn't visit a doctor) and my hand still hurts me sometimes but not too much, my hand is fine but I just don't feel that it's 100% recovered so I just want to know how much time it will take so my hand can get 100% recovered?
Go to the doctor man
the hand is complicated due to the number of bones and ligaments... Go see a doctor, there's no other solution and don't punch walls, I've broken my hand 2 times punching walls... The wall always wins.
I know I'm not the doc but I broke my 2nd metacarpal and had it casted for 6 weeks, this was about 7 years ago. I still can notice a difference. It is swollen and not as flexible as the other hand. Not going to a doctor definitely hasn't helped it, it could have grown back odd, you could have been a candidate for surgery.(as he mentioned about where the fracture occurred affects the severity and need of surgery). Mine aches when it gets cold so maybe that is the pain you are referring to. I think it has to do with fluid in your knuckles adjusting to pressure. Hope this helped.
@Facundo Galeano If American, maybe they can't afford it. Personally it has to be blatantly life threatening for me and I have ok insurance
@SuedO my base knuckle is messed up and doesn't look like the other hand.
when that happened i just said in myself that i will let it heal by itself and if it didn't i will visit a doctor, and at the end it did heal but i feel it's not 100% healed, i think as months go on it will become 100% recovered, i feel the process is just slow and it will heal at the end. the thing that worries me more is how messed up my base knuckle is, I wonder if the doctor can make my hand go back to the same, like my other hand.
What is the name of the biodigital anatomy tool that you use?
I thought this was debunked last time as a swelling from rehydrating, you would cannulate someone at that point on the hand wouldn't you?
Some looking for an excuse knowing he is going to loose this is an a escape !
Why would you show this before his fight ? You do realize as a fighter it puts him at a huge disadvantage due to the opponent knowing a potential weakness to explore . SMH . I think videos like this should be released minutes into the fight or immediately after the fight .
The doc always right
Hopefully it gets better blood flow than the scaffoid
Yeah, its over if he can't knock out Jon. His reach is worse than Jones, it's definitely going to be a shocker for the people that have Jon losing.
A couple inches, but this is probably the longest reach of any JBJ opponent.
@Paul Anderson Yes, which is really wild to see, never I thought I would see it lol
I'm sure Stipe Miocic is the man he says he is and steps in behalf of Gane..... 😒🙄
Too bad people won’t get the Jones Francis fight
Great video man, love seeing it from a licensed doc.. BTW doc 1 question if u could answer me, i have a burning sensation when I pee.. literally just drink, smoke, eat and bang hookers. No idea what it could be but I read kidney stones maybe? Idk man love ur vids tho you're super knowledgeable
Bruh, a Sergei last minute replacement seems like sending a sheep into slaughter. Where in Jones is the sheep !
That would be wild asf 😂
Yeah it would be very unfair to JJ
We know Jones is an arrogant, dysfunctional screw-up, but his fighting skills are not questioned. Ganes having a hand injury or not, he would still be destroyed
could just be edema due to a busted blood vessel very much like a hicky you get on your head from a bad head bump
And this is why I never buy a UFC pay per view till Saturday mornings! To much time for something to happen, especially after weight cutting.
Why would you even buy ppvs lol? Its 2023
@NotoriousOsc16 LOL, I don't want Dana and his SWAT Teams to come after me!
@NotoriousOsc16 to support the fighters
@NotoriousOsc16 Because streams aren't reliable. For the real big fights I always buy them because I've yet to have a stream without at least a little BS, especially during main events
There are no excuses in war. Do or do not. There is no try.
This is probably just a woke excuse for the redemption of Jon Jones since cyrogon is European.
OK, this changes everything. Either Jones wins now or Pavlovich fights instead as a replacement fighter.
He can't even close that index finger all the way it's definitely sprained or broken
I so hope gane is pulled and the Russian killer fights Jon instead
Have the odds changed?
If his hand was broken hed be wincing at the slightest movement, not using the hand and gesturing with it while talking.
You gotta do a video on Lance Stroll the F1 driver
