    There's a detailed backstory for Berion (Y' is a title apparently) on page 92 of the "Story 3.3" document, which can be found in Phoenix Tales' Gothic Archive. He was an abbot before being thrown in the barrier and then a digger. Lots of stuff in there is obsolete, because the story had to be shortened and simplified, but I think that part remained mostly the same in the dev's minds except for when Cor Angar's character is described at the end.

    The most mysterious part of gothic for me is probably the minecrawlers themselves. There's a lot of weird things about them; they exist in the valley of mines, which is coincidentally where the Sleeper resides; they look very similar to the sleeper; their eggs and mandibles are part of a ritual that helps the sleeper communicate with the brotherhood, and they're even found in the sleeper temple itself, despite no queen being present (and these minecrawlers have their own name as well...). All this seems to me to imply that there's some connection between them and the sleeper, but there's very little actually indicating what that connection is. Were the minecrawlers there first and then the sleeper took their form? Or are they some distant spawn of one of Beliar's most powerful demons? Did the sleeper make them? Or did Beliar? Or is it all one big wacky coincidence?
    I dunno, but their teeth creep me out. Weird stuff. It seems strange in hindsight that the minecrawlers don't end up being more linked to the Sleeper than they are in the story, though; it would make a lot of narrative sense for them to be sort of evidence of a deeper evil in the valley that you interact with early on.

    I feel like them "filling in" the lore details may go into the uncanny grey area where hardcore fans of the originals would call it fanfiction simply because this lore wouldnt be coming from the original creators. and in a way its true, logically only the OG devs can tell us what they were thinking when they were creating these locations/monsters/etc - but i feel like they werent actually thinking about anything back then at all lol - they just wanted to make a cool fortress, a swamp, orcs, goblins, etc because "fantasy". So personalyl I am completely okay with the new devs 'filling in' the details, I saw a similar situation with the Mafia 1 remake and I really loved what the new devs brought to the table in that game with how they expanded on the characters and dialogue, so i believe that the gothic remake will follow suit and give us a more thorough and in-depth world and characters. fingers croseed

    • @vertigo7082
      @vertigo7082 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well the thing is that THQ now has the rights and the original devs, at least what's left of them in PB, didnt have any interest in the series anymore.
      The only hope are the "new" devs and I think they might do a job closing the gaps in the story or world building.

    I think its fine to make a space for imagination sometimes and not split tons of informations on the player.
    I was always fine with Gothic dooing this. Its okay for me to know this fortress was once owned by some very rich lord and then he sold it and dissapeared. The rest is then on me to imagine and i like that.
    Sometimes you want to know more, but sometimes you dont and it could get annoying.
    For this reason... I think the best way is to split only some information and more during the quest (which Gothic often do) rather than split 2 hour storytelling and then just go and fight... or to be able to know more by reading books founded, diaries, looting, looking at architecture etc. (which Gothic also do often)
    If you are interested in a topic you can seek for information that should be there somewhere.. and if your not its fine if they dont force you to listen 2 hour story of something that did not catch you that much.

    About the Nameless hero, I think he was thrown in the barrier for thieving skills. He knew lockpicking by default in Gothic 1, but in Gothic 2 he needs to learn the skill because he has forgotten it, thus knowing before being thrown in the barrier the lockpicking skill. Maybe he was caught and thorwn in the Barrier

    on the question goblins ... there is a trigger chest in g2 (i think) that if you open , summons an orc warrior and some goblins that attack you ... i always wondered if the 2 are allied somehow
    there is also in g1 the troll you hunt with diego and that troll has goblin warriors around it and they seem friendly one to each other ... so could trolls -> orcs -> goblin be somehow friendly ?
    there is also the goblin cave, across the bridge , if you walk towards the swamp camp with the novice that guids you ... i am curios what that cave was about :D ... it had a focus pedestal on it as well so ...
    also how did the focus pedestals got build and by who ... or who carved the new camp cave (as it does have an interesting architecture if you walk around the mage quarters)

    • @vertigo7082
      @vertigo7082 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Very good questions! The trigger chest event also led me to believe that there could be an alliance between those two races. Orcs certainly don't mind them and might even benefit from them as cannonfodder for example, but the evidence for that is imo too thin. The troll and goblin connection is also mighty interesting when you think about the fact that Trolls were supposed to throw Goblins at you. This mechanic can be found in some mods but wasn't implemented into the original.
      I talked about that water mage quarter in my New Camp video, but there is no evidence for anything. We can only speculate on these things. Maybe it was the mages work, maybe it is more ancient than we think.
      So many questions, so little answers!

    Not sure that most players, even the hardcore ones are too interested in reading about every minute detail about of Myrtana. I for one would prefer if the ressources went into making the world feel as alive an vibrant as possible instead of hiring an additional narrative designer to write an almanach only a handful of players will ever read. For example so that creatures and NPCs have a wider variety of idle animations making the world feel more alive. I don't need to know that most Shadow Beast beasts are allergic to onions and poop about 3 times per week when I could get an additional shadowbeast idle animation or fur texture variant instead. And yes I am aware that the guys who would be working on a beastiary (UI designer, narrative designer) would not be the same working on creature animations, textures, etc. But at the end of the day they every additional hire in one dpeartment means less hires in another department and lore isn't what interests me anywhere close to experiencing the world through my own eyes. Still, great video though, subbed.

    Finally a new lore video 😃. From the Orpheus design documents it is known that orcs lived in the swamp temple before Y'Berion arrived there. It is also known that the swamp itself was a rather mystical place where spirits lived, and orc shamans communicated with these spirits, using something like voodoo magic. Unfortunately, before the game was released, it was cut, like many other things, but hopefully, some of that content will be in the remake.

    Gomez was probably a Paladin General like Lee, Hagen, Roland, Rigaldo ecc… and was one of the Lords of Myrtana
    Nameless I would like if he is the bastard son of King Rhobar II , he seemed to know too much about him in Gothic 3. They could make it work if baby nameless was lost many many years before the games, maybe sent away with his mother by the king himself to protect him by some serious danger at court. Obviously their direction would have been Khorinis. The nearest island to Myrtana according to some maps. On the island the baby is lost, hit by a rock, forgets his true name (Rhobar like his father and grandfather) and the mother is found dead. Nameless grows up in Khorinis remembering nothing at all , even his true name. Years later commits a crime and gets thrown into the Colony by his father’s army. However years later after our hero destroyed the barrier and kills the dragons, Innos shows the king visions of his lost son and heir to the throne of Vengard. He knows he must be him and awaits him to come back with Esmeralda to save the realm as it happens. It could explain why he chooses to name himself King Rhobar III at the end of Gothic 3
    Gorn is clearly a warrior from the Southern Isles , his skin is more similar to those people rather than to varantians. Probably he rebelled against the king , was captured and sent to the valley
    Diego could be the only one original from Khorinis or Myrtana maybe. He could have even be one of the members of the court of Vengard. His knowledge about affairs seem to lead to high ranking positions
    Lester could be from Myrtana or from Southern Isles or Eastern Archipelago. I don’t think he is from Nordmar. He doesn’t seem to be from aristocracy tho
    Milten learned magic from Corristo and his other mages , he is the only new mage from that group. Therefore he wasn’t a mage before the barrier in the valley that’s for sure. He could be literally from anywhere in the world. My guess would be Myrtana since Innos cult is greatly worshipped there by the majority of the population. His interest in this religion and magic could he explain by that maybe

    I disagree 100% about more background information on the 'friend' characters. Their past matters not, who they are now matters. Flesh out their role and history INSIDE the colony instead. I rather like that the people don't talk about their past constantly as if that background was all they are. I hate the BioWare formula where the background is more important to the characters than the adventure you're actually on. In Gothic, there's no background, what matters is the here and now. So please, NO CONVOLUTED BACKSTORIES! I don't want the characters to feel like they're just some dudes larping and can't contain themselves when they sense the opportunity to share the backstories they've constructed that they think are so amazing but in reality are just cringe as hell.

    • @khatack
      @khatack 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      What I'm getting at is that over explaining the characters isn't a good idea. Less is more when it comes to background history. Unless it is meaningful to the story at hand, it should remain buried, and since the original game made do perfectly fine without them, I really don't want to see them explored. We don't need to know the favorite sticky of Y'berion. If that stuff gets into the game then it should absolutely be written in some journals or hinted at in casual conversations rather than dumped on you as "important lore you should care about that has quests involved".
