    Ty so much for this video. My Pepper doesn't like grooming mainly because of the water and the blow dryer. I think getting a lot of this hair off first will make a real difference. If she had her way, I would pet her all day manually removing all the hair as gently as possible but with the change of the season it's just too much to do without the right tools, so ty for these recommendations! Will put to good use!

    Wow, such a great and helpful vid on grooming a double coated dog. We have a chocolate lab and always pay to have her groomed but after watching this very easy to follow video I definately feel confident about grooming her ourselves. Have a better understanding as well on her undercoat and why it's important to get a lot of that loose stuff out before washing her. Thanks :-)

    Gaida looks almost identical to my Lab Charlotte. I took her to a groomer and they used the furminator on her and she looks great. This was a great video and It shows what a great and caring groomer you are. I purchased the furminator so I can keep our Lab looking her best. You did a fantastic job.😀👍

    Thank you very much for your instruction video! My compliments on the video!
    It helped me a lot sinds i can't afford a professional groomer.
    I learned that i may have brush jus not long enough, in the wrong order and wrong way.
    Im gonna follow your instructions and hope that way my lab mix wil shed less hair after it.
    Because she shed's a lot the whole year round.

      Its now 5 days ago that i did the grooming on my lab mix.
      Her coat looks stil very shiny. But i can see she starts shedding a lot from her coat, fur again. I had hoped her shedding would not return so quickly.
      Guess i have to brush and comb her very well every week with the method you have showed me. i think it's just in her genes to shed more fur unfortunately.
      (Compared to all the other dogs i have had so far)

What is your opinion of brushes like the the furminator? It seems to work initially but then it appears to cut the hair. I’m curious to hear what you think of those. Thanks!!

  • @gilibran

    Yes they need a good grooming now and then, but honoustly, the best grooming you can give your labrador is letting them swim as often as possible, everyday if you can in a clear water pond as long as it's not frozen over.
    I never had to groom my Choc lab untill he was 9+, then age became apparent in his coat and he could not swim long enough anymore to shed all those hairs. Before that a daily swim kept my house clean and his coat shinny.

    • @GroomingByRudy
      @GroomingByRudy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can do this every 4 to 6 weeks, some dogs can shed all year round, but usually they will shed heaviest in the spring, and fall..

    • @jimm244
      @jimm244 ปีที่แล้ว

      …labs will never stop shedding; it’s just a matter of how much!

      L❤️ve my lab tho!

    I'm surprised you didn't use the forced air compressor before bathing her, since it gets out so much hair, and you can use less shampoo when bathing. Also, we didn't get to see what personal protection equipment you used on your face while the air compressor was on. Were you wearing a beekeeper's hat or just using a regular mask and goggles?

    Did you towel dry her at all? Bowtie, my 125# black lab, takes 4 to 5 towels and like you it is a mess. I have used my wife's blow dryer, no heat, and it just seems to take way to much time.

    Idk if your still reading comments but is it better to wash labs with just water most of the time? And how often? I’ve heard it’s not good to bath labs a lot because of there natural oils

      @GroomingByRudy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is true,you should not really bath a dog anymore more than once every 3 weeks to a month.

    I have one question, the rope around her neck, what if the dog got scared and jumped off the table, she could choke. Or does it have a release of some kind

    • @GroomingByRudy
      @GroomingByRudy  ปีที่แล้ว

      A dog that size more than likely wont,because it probably bring the table down with her,But! A small dog can definitely hang,so any dog is never to be left unattended on a grooming table for any reason..Even if it had a quick release on it a dog can get seriously injured falling off a table..

      I believe it'll make them less hot and all that dead/loose hair is gone so it feels like a fresh bath

    I have a question for you guys. I have a border collie/Brittany mix. As you can imagine her hair is beautiful in the cold “weeks”. We live in south Mississippi and we are hot most all year. She DOES NOT shed all at one time. What is up with that? She starts shedding around February and I’m just now waiting for her back end to give up what’s left. How do I get her hair to leave all at once?
    She has, and uses, her doggie door. She stays in when it’s 70 degrees or higher. She stays out when it’s 65 degrees or lower. We get along perfectly except when she’s shedding. Oh she’s a small 66 lbs. She keeps all the squirrels, birds and rabbits at bay. I know this because we do not have any in the yard.

      Best thing is to do all you can to stimulate the hair follicles as often as you can. Shampoo/condition every 3 weeks, and really massage her with the conditioner. Once you massage her really well then you can brush/comb her while still in the tub to get what you can out of her coat. Raking should be done at a minimum, since it could damage the hair follicles and cause an overgrowth of double coat

      They very well may,but it depends on whether they are more Jack than Poo.If They more to Jack,than they can have some undercoat, more Poodle, less undercoat..What a cute mix of dog though..I love it
