    I can make the fry scream low air sound, but I don’t know how to make it louder and a full scream without it sounding like just shouting and not a fry scream

      No idea if this will help at all, but try only widening your jaw while fry screaming, without intensifying anything else.
      I think volume tends to come from the mouth shape and tongue placement

      I have as well this Issue, but I've read that if you try to immitate the same Airflow that you have while Whispering, when you scream it will get louder. This helped me a bit since I now can project it a bit better, I think you should try the same.

    I've been practicing screaming on and off for a long time now and am getting ready to record my first EP. I do false cord lows and highs and can get great sound when just screaming, but when I incorporate words and start screaming sentences for songs, I overexert myself and it gets harder to keep the same sound and depth without getting lightheaded.
    So how would I go about practicing screaming actual sentences with false cord lows and highs without forcing it too much?

    When doing screams (mostly fry but false chord as well) I tend to lose a lot of my higher register after a little while. When I attempt a clean high note I previously had no issue with it now sounds raspy and airy, or eventually I can't even hit the note it just sounds like if I lost my voice. Is this common and what are some exercises to remedy this? Thanks in advance David, you're a beast.

    I learned how to do subharmonic bass singing much before i started learning to scream. Essentially giving the illusion of singing at a lower octave by harmonizing vocal fry with low tones. I am now trying to navigate thru scream vocals and and having troubles pulling my higher fry notes out of singing and into more aggressive without choking on my tongue. Any advice? Im getting pretty good at false chord screaming but high fry screams are really giving me issues.

    I've been screaming for about 2 years now and I'd say I've reached a point where my false-cords are quite strong and safe, but I just don't understand how to put compression safely in my scream to get some form of "hybrid" like deathcore vocalists would, whenever I try I end up accidentally doing epiglottal compression and let's just say it doesn't feel as good as false-cords. Any tips on how to get that kind of compression safely?

    I've been practicing for 3 years now and can do a fry scream for 20-30 seconds, but I can't for the life of me get my false chord to go on for longer than 4 seconds. If I attempt to compress it, it can be held for longer but it gets choked off and sounds terrible. Yet if I keep it uncompressed it's way too airy.

    Hello David! I'm a clean/extreme vocalist in a band and I've been dealing a lot with one strange thing. I can scream using both techniques, but after some time of clean singing, screaming, my voice kind of switches to only false cords screams and it gives me a hard time pulling the fry out for some reason. While when I'm only doing fry screams outside of my full singing session, I do it great, can mix false cords in and out of it, change volume and etc., overall just don't have a problem with it.
    What is the reason or reasons for it and how do I avoid this from happening and can I get back the fry at that moment?
    I have a suggestion that I might be applying too much pressure on my vocal cords to get the grit when clean singing, causing it to restrain and lose its flexibility, simply burn out. Also, after an hour of singing, my head often begins to explode after every overdriven line I sing. So disbalance maybe? Thank you very much for help in advance!
    Just in case it matters, I've been to a doctor for a check-up and everything is perfect, so no health problems involved there.

    Where I have issues is lightening up on breath control and losing that distortion as if the breath control is the same as the muscle movements in my throat. I know they can be manipulated separately but that is hard. I scream like Will Ramos and Dickie Allen. I just can't ease up on it and it sound like I'm stripping away layers. It goes from heavy distortion to airy mess almost instantly or instead of it sounding airy and loose, it'll sound rapid clicking? Not quite what I'm explaining but it doesn't sound useful.

    Hey so I’ve been a vocalist for several years and just recently started recording music. It’s been going well but I notice that my voice isn’t always very loud in terms of the sounds I’m making. My friend is very loud and can belt and project much more than myself and I honestly feel a bit discouraged by this at times…what am I doing wrong and is there something I can do to improve volume and projection?

    • @craig3921
      @craig3921 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you doing false chord or fry? False chord is much louder than fry, so maybe your friend is using a different technique. If you both use the same technique he's likely overprojecting.

    Hey David! I'm just starting out with harsh vocals but I already have knowledge and a little practice (largely because of your videos), during rehearsals with my band I feel an itch in my throat, a tickle, it doesn't hurt anything, zero pain, so I just cough lightly to relieve it, drink water when I need to and continue with the rehearsal, is it normal to have this feeling at the beginning? It decreased between rehearsals. Is this something that will go away or is it something common for beginners?

      Same thing happened to me when I started almost 10 years ago. I think it's because your vocal cords aren't used to screaming. Like he said in the video, it'll take time for them to adjust. Try not to over do it

    So i have this thing i like to do and may catch some shit from people for admitting to it but i say; if it helps and doesnt hurt, why not do it? 😅 To get a deeper tone on my false cords, i sometimes like to put a small amount of orajel on the tip of my tongue and touch it to the back of my throat, on my uvula and just a bit up in my nasal cavity. I figured this out when i was sick with strep and being a stubborn jackass, wanted to do something to alleviate the pain so i could practice. Yea i know; probably not a good idea in the slightest. Since you have quite a magnitude more of experience than i do, i want to ask your opinion on whether you think doing something like this (when not sick or having a sore throat) is a good idea or if it may potentially lead to any sort of problems down the road? I have no knowledge of the science behind why it has that sort of effect on the vocals but im guessing it relaxes certain muscles in the throat or something like that. If you do have any knowledge about this, i would be very happy and grateful to hear about it. Thank you so much for all the incredible videos and all the knowledge and wisdom you share with us.
    Ps: i am not encouraging anybody to do this for the fact that i really dont know if it will cause any negative long term effects or not. If you do feel compelled to try it though and you have a flexible tongue that you can insert into your nasal cavity, just be warned that it may sting like hell for a few seconds after you put the orajel there.

    • @ExtremeVocalInstitute
      @ExtremeVocalInstitute  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To answer your question: if it helps and doesn't hurt, why not do it? Your vocal tract is delicate and doesn't have a lot of nerve endings so you can do damage without knowing that you're doing damage. Once you're feeling pain, you've gone far to the point where you're likely to need medical intervention to recover. I don't ever recommend any kind of numbing, even when sick, for this reason. This is why a reoccurring theme on this channel is to balance air pressure control, placement, and shape.

    • @Stand1ngBear
      @Stand1ngBear 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ExtremeVocalInstitute Thanks for the reply. That definitely makes sense. And I've considered that while it feels like I'm doing the same thing as when I don't use it, the fact that the sound is different means I'm probably not doing the same thing. I will certainly heed your advice and keep working on getting the lows lower by organic means.

    Please, PLEASE discuss inhales! 🙏
    Thanks to your videos I have learned that my self-taught technique is fundamentally a low fry scream, just with reversed air flow so the "texture" of the sound is slightly different but equally brutal.
    Is there any potential physical harm in using this approach?

    Hey bro, sorry this my fake acc ma name is Mahrad,
    I actually don't like the screams that sound kinda too weird as a zombie or something,
    Scream of Corey Taylor is my favorite, but there's point or actually a question, i think u kno he damaged his voice during 1999-2001 , because of the vocals he had he was jus tryna let everything out, but then his screaming sound totally changed , for example if u compare the sic with solway firth , u'll know what im sayin,
    Could u please idk reply to me as a comment or short video, and explain the whole thing about screaming like corey? And how we should do it so we won't damage our voice? I think it will be a different video cause most of your videos are about the fry & false in the zombie or monster way😂 ,
    Those are cool but i think there will be people like me who they wanna scream like corey with out hurtin themselves, cause his screaming is kinda different it's like he pushin his voice out with a lotta pressure,
    I'll be so glad for your help , and also i always wanted to meet u tho idk if there's a way for that ,
    Thank you for your useful videos ,.
