yes, for the second part, you can either skip the stitch maker space or work in it. just count the part you have finished working to make sure you have equal sides.

I have a question since you don't show the end of the rows for row 3 onwards. What do you do when the last space is a chain 1 and not 3 dc? How do you finish the row?
