    How is it intonated right with the bridge so far back. Kick ass idea though

    • @dleasman
      @dleasman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is exactly what I was thinking. Neet idea, but unfortunately, unplayable, since it could never be tuned.

    • @jonnybooks9337
      @jonnybooks9337 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dleasman I submit to you 7:37...sounds pretty well in tune to me...if you pay attention in the video (1:16) you can see he used the old body as the template for where to place all of the hardware...this guitar works just fine I bet.

    • @dleasman
      @dleasman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jonnybooks9337 If you look on any strat (22fret, 25.5 scale length), the bridge is right up to the pick guard. It's a mathematical thing. It may have been tuned to sound good in that position of the neck, but any higher, or lower, and it would be out. A guy once gave me a charvel guitar where he had changed the neck to one from a strat. The original neck was a 24fret neck, 24.75scale length (yes, more frets means a shorter neck, lot longer), so the bridge was too far back by just .75", and it was un-tunable. The bridge in the video is much further back. Again, it's a mathematical fact that this guitar could not be tuned to play in tune throughout it's register. Look at the bridge position of any strat, and measure any elec. guitar you have. On a bridge, the saddles are adjustable, because intonation requires sub mm adjustments. Sorry to argue the point, but bridge placement IS critical.

    Cool project. Definitely outside the box.
    Some constructive feedback: The wood grain goes the 'wrong' way, so neck joint might be weak. The saddle leans way too much forward. Maybe you had to do that to make the intonation right? Aligning all this is what's hard when building guitars.
    Remove the spring claw, and re solder the ground lead afterwards. Soldering isn't that hard, lots of good info here on youtube.

    Interesting, but the bridge looks REALLY far back. A strat neck is a 25.5" scale length, so that must be the exact distance from the nut to the saddles on the bridge (+/-, for intonation). With the bridge that far back, I doubt it could ever play in tune up the neck.

    This can’t be intonated properly, the bridge is way out of position. I cried tears of pain when he started smacking the neck with a mallet because the neck angle was wrong. There’s a weird combination of woodworking skill and zero experience building guitars going on here. It’s a super cool idea, but I would urge anyone thinking to build one for themselves to do a lot more research on how guitars are made first. Because this could have been made into a hell of a guitar with just a few key changes and techniques.
