The song was composed in the year 1816 by F.X. Gruber, Words by J. Mohr. Both were austrians and so am I . And we're proud to share it with everyone in the world - if christian or not - who believes in love, peace and magic of the holy night. It's a honour to us, that beautiful performers like MorningMusume sing this song in such a touching way... thx a lot ! If I have to go to heaven, I hope for a merciful god and that the angel on my cloud will sound and look like Natsumi Abe...
@Alex4ever230 Allow me to quantify my reply before getting to it : My wife is Japanese, and I spend a great deal of time each year in Japan, both during and away from the holidays. Christianity is by far NOT a "minority religion" in Japan. There are far more than you might think, and the religion is actually quite popular. Most folk even split themselves across religions, for the sake of the ever-present "case-by-case" outlook most Japanese seem to harbor.
@narniaslan47 Wow....The place is far from satanic. I can see where some hardcore Christians might abhor the idea of "splitting your loyalties", as it were, but they aren't "satanic", lol! Also, I suggest checking into one of the many English Language programs, such as the Jet program - you could go far! I have a pal out in Osaka, went over as part of one of those, and still lives there to this day! Good Luck!
and ppl... don't be mean to silvatine although he didn't know better.. no reason to give him thumbs down. also I think everyone is a racist.. I even think i'm a bit of a racist.. I can say that I don't trust guys that come from araba. So yep I am a racist. but I wanna learn more about Araba to prove myself wrong. so yeah everyone keep on trying to be informed ^_^
eh... not only that.. but u know.. ppl in japan go by many religion.. so even if u see a low number that are christians.. they might still marry in a christian church etc. Just trying to be more informative here^_^
1:08 I always thought Rika’s singing was pretty bad, no idea why she got so many solos. Tsunku obviously liked her look or maybe her sound..no hate just don’t think she’s as good as Abe or Takahashi
@KireiLove91 No offense, but have you not taken world history. Christianity is actually more popular than buddhism. It is in no way a minority religion even in Japan.
what a song to listen to on Christmas Eve, MERRY CHRISTMAS to all Morning Musume fans.

@pal3456 thanks for the info, I will totally check into that
@XxHitomixX Very very true! But I would understand how they would be misguided, considering only 1% of Japan's population is believed to be Christian.
Why isnt Yossi there?
@Alex4ever230
I've taken world history twice and there have been surveys and pie charts showing that christianity isn't a minority religion.
Never mind, I just noticed her. Whoops!
@animelover509
in JAPAN it is a minority religion
most people are shinto and buddhist IN JAPAN
where's Yossy ?? o_o

Yossy's not there, and neither is Kei! She was still in the group at the time!
fantasykingdom1227 Kei was there. She was in the pigtails third from the right (between Mari & Nozomi).

As a Morning Musume fan, religon is not important for me.
"Everyone who believes in Morning Musume will have eternal life. Amen"
How do you know they don't understand it?
Morning Musume performed "Silent Night" so simply and beautifully.

"I was talking about the Christian meaning of the song"
That implies you don't think they'd know the Christian meaning of the song.
Who's listening in 2023?!
I am.
@@LordFon13 Sheesh bruh. How's life after 16 years? 😭
All that may be true, but it is still rude and ignorant to ASSUME they don't. Do not make generalizations.
Just so you know... I think it's really ignorant of you to think that there are no Christians in Japan.
