I have a standard in mango burst. I have other guitars that are more than triple the cost of my Wolfgang but it is literally my go-to. It's a weapon. It also proudly wears the badge of my only guitars that doesn't have a lot of aftermarket mods or has needed a lot of fine-tuning. Super stable neck. Excellent fret work. Really good stock pickups. All I added was the d-tuna.
💪😎👍 Great review of a badass guitar, man! Liked & subbed, and my mint condition Bocote Standard came in at $500, best deal on Reverb! Super sweet "Hatchet" job around 10:05, too!
I used to have a MIJ Wolfgang with a regular non-Floyd bridge but sold it as it wasn’t for me. Finding the most love these days with my Gibson LP Slash and Music Man JP15. Cheers man, keep up the good content!!
It’s awesome- I feel like the neck on the special is a little narrower at the nut. I have to be careful bc I tend to pull the e string off the side of the board
You had me at “wood grain” 😂. Sweetwater has some gorgeous tops in a variety of woods. Really nice for a guitar in the $650-$800 range. Heading to Walmart in my Geargasms t-shirt to meet some ratty-ass people and tell them about your channel 👍. Have a good weekend Alan.
Am pleasantly surpirsed at the flexibility of the pickups. Thanks for that! One thing I can't find out is whether that top is solid spalted cap vs. a non-spalted maple top with a spalted veneer on top of it. Anybody know?
I just bought one. Have to say that I was incredibly disappointed in the setup out of the box with the action being almost unplayable. After adjusting the truss rod and bridge, I got it pretty playable, but it looks like I'm going to have to shim the neck to get the action where it really needs to be. Other than that, I absolutely love it. Love the neck and finish is perfect. Nice fret work and overall quality is pretty impressive for the price. Neck pickup is just a little bit muddy, but very usable. As a blues/country player that occasionally dabbles into heavier territory (EVH kind of stuff), it's incredibly versatile and the clean tones are a million times better than what I expected. Overall, I'd say it's a great purchase, but definitely pay for setup if you're buying from Sweetwater or another retailer that offers a setup service.
That’s cool to hear. I was surprised by the clean and low breakup tones too. It sounded very warm. What finish did you get? Like this one? Would love to have you subscribe if not already! Thanks
@@GearGasms I got the Stryker Red one. It looks better in person and isn't as bright as most of the pictures you see online. Its more of a candy apple red.
I have one in Spalted Maple. It looks great, and the roasted maple neck and jumbo frets are comfortable. With that said, the tuning stability is horrid. I mean really, really bad. I hardly ever use it because I have to spend almost as much time tuning as playing. The bridge might be licenced from Floyd Rose, but it's quality is not even close to Floyds I've had on other guitars. Also, this may or may not be EVH's fault, but it arrived with by far the worst set up I've ever experienced on a new guitar. I had to take it to a tech for setup, and that tech said it was the worst starting setup that HE had ever seen. One more complaint: maybe this is all my fault, but I am constantly slipping the high E string off the bottom of the fretboard... there just isn't much room to play with there. I'd take full responsibility for this, except that I have nine guitars and only experience this problem on the EVH.
@@GearGasms seven is a lucky number LoL seriously, I would enjoy the fret board profile and feel very comfortable. My learning/jammin years in the 80's was mostly spent playing an Ibanez that felt custom made ergonomic. Alan, I love your Spark amp demos. That little practice amp is feature rich incredible! It takes learning electric guitar to an entirely new level of expedient sophistication I never had or thought possible.

Great review! I don't often look at "shred machines", but it was a nice surprise to see how versatile the guitar really is. Thanks!
Yeah it surprised me too with this one and my own- it’s no one trick pony! Have a mediocre weekend!
Another awesome video , great job 👏
Thanks brother! Have a mediocre weekend! 😜🤘🏻

Yeah that’s mainly the only thing that separates the two that matters! Have a mediocre weekend!
That sounded fab - even the "lovely" stuff...

Nice Video. Not a fan of the EVH guitars but you know what opinions are like!!
I actually think opinions make the world go round!
@@GearGasms Maybe, I got my Gear Gasms Tank Top today.
Pics or it didn’t happen lol!
Check FB.
Will do! Thanks

I’m guessing veneer based on price
You're opening tune reminds me of hot dog and a shake I like it
Thanks Jeffery!
Spaulty goodness

Can you get good clean or you need to change pickups to get better clean?
Actually the clean on this is fine on its own

Same here with the special on both counts. Especially the slipping. This one has rolled edges which feel great but do add to slipping
Well uhhh mmmm ehhh yeah I ummm am certain it wouldn't be my first choice or second or third prolly not fourth either 😂
But number 7th choice! That’s still good! These aren’t for everyone but really surprisingly versatile!
