    As a young EMT, I was dispatched to a motorcycle accident where the rider sheered off a 4" tree with his torso as he went off the road. Patient was alert and oriented when we got there, then proceeded to go through all the stages of decreasing LOC. He was dead before we could package him and get him off the scene. Turns out, impact with the tree shattered his liver - there was no saving him. Sad day, but incredible learning opportunity for me as a young EMT.

    A friend of mine died this way back when we were 21. He only used the jack to hold his car up while working underneath it... The jack gave out and the car fell on him. He was by himself, so there wasn't anyone there to help him or anything and he was later discovered deceased. NEVER EVER RELY ON THE JACK TO HOLD YOUR CAR UP! ALWAYS use those stands and make sure the car is in place and they are what's supporting the car. You should be able to remove the jack and your car still be elevated on the stands with no problem. A lesson I am SO thankful my father taught me when I was learning to drive, he couldn't stress it enough. Wish my friend had been taught the same and not died before he had a chance to live a full life.

      @ADHDad 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +328

      @@danieldb_alfa kinda sorta - you want the insides to stay inside pretty much all the time. Crushing internal organs is usually incompatible with good health and needs to be assessed asap. Crushing Syndrome is after an extended period of time organs and muscles that have started to die release dead and infected blood and goop, which is bad, but the crushing is actually preventing it from being spread out to the body. Removing the crushing thing without being ready or removing the bad bits first is what causes Crushing Syndrome.

      Children have been known to be able to lift vehicles when empowered with adrenaline, there was a case when we were younger where a 12 year old boy saw his father get crushed by a truck after the jack fell and he proceeded to lift the 4x4 enough to get him out.
      Most vehicles are in the 1-2 ton range, so we're talking two thousand to four thousand pound vehicles.
      It's amazing what we can do when push comes to shove, pun unintended.

      Adrenaline will do that to you - I once had a fracture that I didn't feel the pain at all for 30 minutes, because I was so high on adrenaline after the accident. Once the adrenaline wore off though ... let's just say I almost passed out when they moved me on the ambulance stretcher.

    • @theoneandonly3435
      @theoneandonly3435 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +70

      @@maximilian672 that most likely wasnt adrenaline but more so shock and unawarenedd of the fracture. The brain tends to ignore pain until u either see the wound or concentrate on what might hurt you atm. If you were 30 min under adrenaline damage to your heart and smaller bloodvessels should have occurred. Adrenaline is more of an action boost vor 3 min not 30min. But it could initially be the reason why your brain was unaware of the pain and after it wore of your body had already to fight with the tiredness of the adrenaline running out so the brain just made you function. I have seen that happen twice so far in motorcycle accidents.

      Firefighter paramedic, not EMT. EMT lowest level of personal allowed on ambulance after emergency responder I think, which is like just basic CPR stuff and than EMT covers a whole ton more in trauma, CPR, and taking vitals while also ensuring airway, breathing, and circulation is present. Next is AEMT which I don't ever see in Chicago and don't see any schools really teaching it, maybe the job is disappearing, and than paramedic the final and most trained job on an ambulance. Although supposedly there is like a new paramedic type supervisor or someone with a little more training but I haven't really learned about and only vaguely heard of. This guy is a firefighter paramedic which I can share more insight on what I heard about the job if your interested.

    • @ShimrraJamaane
      @ShimrraJamaane 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@harveysanchez6993 The titles only recently changed. Calling a medic an EMT is ok for the general public, because medics used to be EMT-P.
      EMR is not on an ambulance, those are many firefighters and LEOs. EMT isn't the lowest level person on an ambulance, as you could have solely CPR certified people on board under the supervision of, at minimum, an EMT. AHA CPR isn't expanded upon in EMS. We do high-performance CPR under AHA guidelines. Mostly an EMT is about determining initial acuity and acting accordingly. We also treat traumatic injuries for transport to the hospital. ABCs are only moderately expanded on with airway adjuncts, bleeding control, and breathing assistance.
      AEMT isn't going away. There are still EMT-I, intermediate, (basically paramedics minus a couple of pediatric skills).
      A medic supervisor is a normal position within the EMS system. They are a medic in a supervisory role who may carry blood or other specialized items. They are called to codes and major incidents (fire and traffic). They are just medics, not an entirely different certification in EMS. The four certification levels from NREMT are NREMR, NREMT, NRAEMT, and NRP.

They looked into the jack stands and I guess they are either on recall or like a watch list. These were prettt much brand new from the store. He bought then only a few months before and didn't know there was a possible issue with them. He only used them a few times. I know someone who was literally a mechanic, using the proper jack. He knew what he was doing but the one time he didn't use back up for what should have been a quick fix the jack failed and they ended up recalling it. But he didn't make it.
