- Ultimately, there's no getting around the fact that the reason for Cricket 22 being the best Cricket game in recent memory is that, well, there haven't been an awful lot of those in several years. In an ideal world, this would be a far more polished and far more feature-rich game with better AI, better animations, and better production values in general.
But it doesn't seem like we're going to get to that point anytime soon- so until then, I'll gladly take Cricket 22 and what it has on offer. Because you know what? For now, this is good enough.

I'm honestly baffled how there isn't anyone filling this niche. Cricket may not be as popular as football or basketball but I can only imagine a fully fledged cricket game with fully licensed teams, commentary and stadiums in a broadcast style package similar to NBA 2K and FIFA. Would sell millions of copies.
Cricket is more popular than basketball. Quite comfortably. I’d say about 5 times more people watch cricket world wide. But yeh
Why are you baffled? The vast majority of the cricket watching nations are 3rd world countries. Most of the people here cant afford high quality consoles/PC and we pirate even our movies unfortunately. People dont even have 10$ for Netflix for the most part. The vast majority of the player base is India Pakistan Bangladesh Srilanka. Ozzy and English are relevant top tier markets but the sport isnt as rampant or wide spread in those nations so the sales from those alone will not be able to shoulder a AAA game budget the likes of the one you compare it to. There is a reason why EA has long since given up on cricket. In order for a game of the caliber of 2K and Fifa, you need a tremendous amount of money coming in, and people cant afford to pay a 50$ game much less a console/machine to run the game. That would also lead to tremendously low concurrent users and poor multiplayer performance. Furthermore, for the reasons above, it will be harder still to add micro-transactions to the game and other meta game within game revenue streams into the game. Probably the best bet for cricket is mobile, and the CricketLeague game is doing a phenomenal job of capturing that market. Even if you wanted a more detailed game, it would have to be on the mobile platform since most people in the third world countries do have atleast low-mid end android devices.

Brian Lara International Cricket by CodeMasters was the best cricket game ever... Especially given the time period it was made it's still in many areas better than the current games in my opinion.

Can’t expect a EA or 2K quality game when Big Ant don’t have the budget or selling power of the likes of the above games. The more people keep buying these game eventually they will be able to spent more on the game and/or a bigger developer will come along. TBH Big Ant do a pretty good job with what they have to work with and a pretty good review
But, they have been making these cricket games for a while now and some of the cons have been long running! For example, you can not pick Ur own squads when captain also you can only play for one county club team a career
This quality isn’t too far off from EA or 2k who have both severely dropped in quality over the years

For me Cricket'07 still remains a game unmatched. Though my nostalgia biases me towards it no doubt.

Problem with these games are, Sports games have gone too far but its just made for 10 years older generations. Wicket keeper teleports to catch, slip fielders weird movement to take a catch, ball goes through bats almost in every innings, sometimes AI doesnt need to touch the ball to hit a backfoot ondrive on a yorker, batsman teleport to hit a shot.
If I have to still play cricket 2007 which is far less complicated but enjoyable than this modern version then there must be something wrong.
@SenseOfReality yeah if I didnt have to pay for it then I wouldnt have complain. Its quite expensive than last year but packaged the same game with minor changes. If you like it then its your choice but its not a better game than its previous versions. They didnt really move from DBC14.

I’m also pretty annoyed about the price, and when you pay that much for a game you should be able to see notable improvements. You can still enjoy playing the game but “freeing your mind of technicalities” isn’t gonna do shit about the fact that we spent 50 bucks on a sloppy game
@SenseOfReality you make fair points, but I still think it’s cheeky of a company to make a poor-quality game and still charge a high price for it
I believe you are playing at easy/easiest mode where no matter the timing and shot selection, the batsman will teleport to the spot to hit it out of the park. Try increasing difficulty and you'll notice that your timing and shot selections are making impact and do matter.

Great review. Summed everything up perfectly. To be fair I’ve seen a little improvement and I’m happy New Zealand, West Indies and Ireland are now licensed too. Especially NZ because I’m from here 😂. Just hope they can keep gradually improving and it’ll be great if they could acquire a few more licenses and keep polishing and upgrading the mycareer mode

DBC14 still remains the best cricket game
Looks mega disappointing. Kinda like a step down from 2019. Maybe one day we will get a AAA level title
I felt the same but when i played it for 2-3 days it was fun,,,, i returned to 19 but then 19 seems very bad to me,, cricket 22 is good game,, just play it for some time

the best cricket game came out around 2007 by EA Sports.
It’s quite addictive but there are a lot of things that are really old-fashioned and unclear, compared to more leading sort of sports games. The main one for me is the career mode where it’s extremely unclear how to improve your player specifically, or even what different training sessions (some of which are hilariously hard) actually do in terms of stat improvements etc. for example - the nets training doesn’t tell you anything in terms of how long you need to do it, or what it’s actually doing (my conclusion is that it doesn’t do anything), other than throwing up the odd ‘attack bonus’ or something, that doesn’t seem to actually relate or affect anything else. However the actual cricket game is fun enough, other than some really crap animation jankyness very frequently. It’s a classic 5 or 6/10 game in a series that has no competition or real reason to improve.

EA can do it,but the fucking BCCI nvr give licenses to use their players,in past they were ready to give licenses but offered huge money which EA refused to give,Indian players licenses means so much to them cos Indians will be their games most buyers

I have played DBC 14, ashes 17 and Cricket 19 and nothing has been drastically changed in terms of gameplay. I love the gameplay because I love the batting mechanics, but the bowling mechanics are super boring and literally the same as cricket 07. It is super easy to take wickets even in the hardest difficulties against AI.
Career mode is very fun in all these versions but they need to change how long it takes to break into the national team. By the time I make it in the national team 80% of the team are regens and that is not fun at all.
The biggest issue is the licensing. Probably 80% of cricket fans are from the subcontinent but the game has only licenses for 4 teams and none of them are in the subcontinent. Even if people there are too poor to buy the game, I reckon they can double or triple their sales because of the immigrants living in richer countries. If they had all the licenses then this game would be very much worth every penny. Gameplay is still decent and is a more realistic simulation than FIFA
Test Matches played in South Africa or the West Indies are a party. Whenever England plays Australia the Barmy Army are there to fill the stadium with songs and chants for their beloved team. Heck they'll even sing at home with "Land of Hope & Glory", "Jerusalem" or "God Save the Queen" being belted out with as much gusto as at a Football match. In general it seems that it is crowd in Australia that are quietest at a Test, although when there's a limited over or T20 then it's a party as well.
The reason there's no budget for Cricket games is that it isn't played in the US.

Bigant needs to move on to Unreal 5 for their next games especially with the way Epic only charges after a certain amount is made. Their games engine looks like it hasnt changed since Rugby League Live 1
its sad Brian Lara cricket from over 20 years ago is still my favourite cricket games of all time playing with my brother or friends remember struggling to play the slower ball yorker happy days

Good review. What is unclear with the graphics is that there is some weird spotlight shining on players' heads. Not even a spotlight but more sunshine even in nighttime matches.
Final Verdict: Go back to Brian Lara Cricket'99. That is still the better cricket game. If you want something new then stick with Cricket'19 if you have it.
its all about the budget for big ant for a lot of popular sports in australia they have been making game for for like 20 years at this point always with fanbases its honestly to the point where i dont think fanbase size matter if someone threw a big budget at big ant they would make a visually amazing game the customization options for career teams in almost all their games is insane and the logos/ team emblems are so good you could halfbye build a real team in these sports around them and could easily pass as real life teams if you do the jerseys right kinda sad to see after years of proving themselves they deserve a blank check the behind the scenes real game footage from the 1st NRL game i still remember from when i was a kid truly a amazing dev team

the main issue is that cricket just doesnt have enough revenue potential. half the cricket-playing nations are extremely poor, and the other half have tiny populations.
although football and basketball games will have more funding, i dont see why cricket games cant sell big and also have big resources. india is the 2nd most populated country in the world, and they love cricket there. add in pakistan, england, australia, nz, south africa etc there surely is a big enough audience to warrant spending more to make a better game. last good cricket game i played was on ps2. from what i have seen and read here i dont think i will be rushing to buy. such a pity
The average wages in Pakistan are about 200$ a month with India a bit higher at 400$. It makes it hard to buy a PlayStation or Xbox when it costs a month or twos worth of salary and a game being around 30-40$ doesn’t make it attractive either. While there is an audience it is not yet rich enough to buy these products.

I am facing weird issue on my XBOX One whenever I quit game or complete the game I am getting "Error Reading Logo File" ALeart & options are cancel sign-in & Create New Data. If i select any one of the options same alert is displayed. I have to force quit the game

Though EA 2007 had primitive graphics and repetitive commentary I played it a lot and had loads of fun for whatever simple gameplay it had(or for a loophole which I exploited to hit a six on every ball😝 sans a few)

Slow pace of cricket ? have you watched a test match or 20/20. It’s better than baseball by a mile. The video games however, not so much. I will not be buying this game or any cricket games for a while

Sadly there are a dozen cricket playing nations though they are crazy for this sport but still not enough to compare to football, this is why i think they are not making progress. I loved 2001-2 game then 2004-5 then 2007 after that the developers didn’t able to provide any remarkable gaming experience :( even mobile games are much improved than before .. Still waiting to play my perfect cricket game from my fantasy 😐

Don't go for cricket 22 right now. Worst machanic s and controls compared to cricket 2019. You can go for cricket 22 if they fix these issues and give any updates. I loved cricket 19 gameplay and controls. Cricket 22 is not upto the mark right now. Not sure about in future.

I wholly blame BCCI for piss poor state of Cricket culture. Cricket is no longer a cash strapped sport. IPL media rights per match are sold for more than EPL.
Cricket games seems to be getting worse over the last 10 years instead of better. The animations/graphics and the production value in general is a sad joke considering the AAA price tag.
They should make a video game based off of strictly franchise cricket whether its IPL or CPL. The high energy in these leagues would be an awesome gaming experience with the nintendo switch. Traditional Cricket just doesn't have much of an appeal anymore in today's world.
They should add asian teams like India,Pakistan,Bangladesh.
for me Cricket 22 is actually = Cricket 19 + a Major Patch.. It literally doesn't justify its full new game price.. It isn't a new game at all.. Same old bugs, Poor AI, graphics & gameplay of Cricket 19 .. I have been conned by Big ant :-( disappointed

This.game is absolutely broken don't waste your money! The bowling is absolutely shocking you get smashed all around the park by tailenders you get batsmen edging 6's the shot system is busted... trade it in for something else hardly enjoyable.
Lots of broken promises from big ant where this game is concerned. This is the best review of this piece of trash game I've sn so far. Big ant keeps releasing patches and these patches keep ruining the game even more. Cricket 19 is way better than this piece of junk

They’re able to release mediocre games every couple of years as they make so much back when they release it in India. We’ll have mediocre cricket games until EA find value in buying the licenses.
If you play in an unlicensed first class competition, you will notice that opposition captain usually has a long ponytail, a beard and wide hips. Big Ant needs to focus on improving the game, and less with the pc nonsense.
