I had a really old Stud Pack video come through my feed a few days ago and I watched it. To see Paul smoothing through those sponsorship spiels like he does now is amazing compared to the man of few words in that early video. A stud is born...Great time to be alive. Keep up the great work.
Hey Studpack just wanted to say I’ve been watching you guys for years and I can honestly say you guys are the biggest reason why I left my full time job in the trades (plumbing/HVAC/electrical) to go solo and start my own remodeling business. It has been going great and I have to say you guys are playing a very big part in my success. Just seeing you guys do things and go about different ways of installing any and everything really helps when I have to come up with solutions on my own jobs. Much love from Palacios Home Services, we’re out of AZ so we know how it is when it comes to working outside in this heat!
Cannot believe that a lot with some drainage issues has turned into an amazing structure. I really appreciate being able to see the real struggles that have gone into getting this built. I can understand now why I see houses take awhile to go up, and maybe why I should look closer at houses that do go up super quick. Thank you all for your hard work!
The camera work and lighting along with audio on each episode of Stud Pack is first rate. Thumbs up to the editing of the video prior to publishing it each week. Stud Pack offers the highest quality video on TH-cam. Good entertainment for the whole family to enjoy!
It was an absolute pleasure meeting you guys at IBS in Vegas. You are phenomenal! I learn new techniques every video I see. Keep them coming!!!! Thank you!
That view on the end with you walking along the finished siding and the small windows really screws with my European mind. My mind constantly defaults back to thinking you're walking along a nice shed (which we typically finish with siding) despite me knowing you're high up on scaffolding next to a massive 2 story garage. I've said it before underneath a previous video but I'll say it again: We Europeans tend to mock the North-American way of building, but with this attention to detail and quality materials this building is just as solid as the brick buildings over here and probably tighter as well. This ain't your typical American plastic-sided builders-grade excuse of a house, this is quality!
22 minutes of studpack heaven. I’ve always wondered about the gaps since most houses have hardy siding these days. Only 11 months to where you guys are is pretty impressive.
Been here since you started this awesome project, and was there way before that when you were still in Louisiana. I even grew up in the Houston area, but based on your general description of your location and the size of the Houston metro area, you'd have to pack a lunch to get to see the house I grew up in, and might need another snack or two on the way back home. (Those who have never lived in Houston may think this is an exaggeration, but nope, it's a BIG sprawled out metropolis!) That said, I've got a brother in Magnolia, and I suspect that is close. Anyway, the project is coming together beautifully. Now, when you get to the main house, hire a crew to do the foundation. It was painful watching the throes you had to go through to get that finally completed. Everything else has been all-pro! And as always, there is a thumb up, because I enjoy watching other people working!
Thanks for the tip about placing the flashing behind the siding joints. I'll be sure to use it the next time I do siding. The story pole is an excellent tip for double checking the alignment.
I still remember when you guys first started talking about this on video, you've come so far and I am so happy for you. So proud of where you have taken this channel too. I just love watching all of you. Best diy construction channel ever
The amount of wonderful and useful content that you guys put out is, in my humble opinion, equivalent to a university degree or diploma from a trade school. I've learnt so much and I am sure many others feel the same!
I used these gecko guages and resided my last house on my own. Cost me about 5k to side house. When I sold it in 2022, my realtor said the siding added 50 to 60k t the house. They worked great
My house was finished in 2008 with siding in back only. It was the old way of doing hardie siding, nails on outside and caulk instead of flashing. It's an eye sore now and I desperately want to redo it. I'm in Houston and my home was damaged during the '21 freeze. I found out then there was no plywood/osb behind the siding. That explained the noise pollution and bugs getting in among other things. I would love to throw Zip behind it too! Wish I had someone that could help me DIY it 😅
Once again the Stud Pack team did an awesome job. Love the extras you always give on the job. I learn something new every time I watch your vids. Thanks!
The limitation of relying entirely on Geiko is shown on your last top course at a 6 3/4". reveal. The exposure of the last 4 or 5 courses could have been adjusted incrementally by 1/16 to 1/8" without ever being noticed.
Being a old AZ boy .. where summer starts in May, and that means its over 100 and doesn't drop until October .. I feel for ya! LoL!! Totally enjoying your home build, I miss those days, nothing like the smell of a freshly framed house in the morning. :))
I would cut the flashing 1/2” long then make a 1/4” cut on each side and tap the 1/4” flange Over the edge of the top trim. This will make it so that water won’t wick underneath the flashing at the edges and get on the top of your trim
Dude you’re renewing my faith in humanity. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Straight to the point. Tons of valuable information. Wish we were related!
20:40 - once you realized that top board was going to be 3/4 inch additional reveal, you could have adjusted the reveal of the three or four boards beneath that to spread that 3/4 inch out; each of the three boards at an extra 1/4 inch wouldn’t be too noticeable from the ground.
I re-sided my house a couple of summers ago with Hardie Plank. Those gecko gauges make it straightforward, and the 12 foot long planks can be handled by a single person. Used the Diablo blades for my miter and circular saw recommended by Hardie. They have a great system; very weather- and fire-resistant. Spouse was very happy with the results. 😀
As an AP mechanic, although this type of work is out of my scope and detail I really find your work and expertise useful, helpful and entertaining. I hope one day I can apply what I learn from you guys one day on my own home. Saludos! From Vallejo CA.

looking great fellas, love the work and attention to detail - its going to make building the house so much easier after going through this whole process. enjoy some weekend beers!
People say they hate Hardie siding because it's difficult to work with and brittle. I am doing my house slowly with it and I just tell them they are doing it wrong. Easy to do, WITH THE RIGHT TOOLS, looks great and lasts a long time.
As an exterior contractor in Canada, you guys did awesome!!! I would highly suggest investing in some Pole Jacks and planks, they would save you so much time and effort with the set up and takedown of the scaffolding. but that is also if you plan to do this more. Looking awesome.
Used the Gecko’s one my workshop project in December and worked fantastic. They Made me look like I worked for Paul himself for years despite being an amateur. Looking good fellas!
Love your content guys. The last house I sided, I started with 3 courses at the normal 7" reveal, then 2 courses at a 3.5" reveal. Then 3 at 7" and 2 at 3.5". You get the picture. Very subtle, but, a cool look that differs from the norm. Try it out sometime and see what you think.
Hey guys. You must get yourself a sky-hook for your coil nailer. I hook my gun on the scaffolding or on my tool belt. The less times I have to bend over to pick up the nailer makes for a better day. Great job guys!👍
It's been 11 months already? Black fruit rollup! LOL. The lap siding looks good! Hmm.. No caffeine in LMNT so that is a bonus. No sugars is also good. Contains potassium and magnesium. Can't blame Rad for not wanting a farmer's tan. LOL. I'm not ready for it to get 30 degrees hotter. I do not do well with the heat. Those gecko tools are cool. I’m currently remodeling my home and I am just about ready for siding.. this video helped a ton! I’m also curious to know how expensive it was going with Hardy board? I was going to go with vinyl siding but that product looks beautiful! Love the vids, keep it up!!
My parents have vinyl siding, it's chipped and cracked in places. If it's right before sale and it's cheaper, sure go that way because you won't have to deal with it again. Gonna live in it for a while still? I'd go with Hardy board, it looks like it will hold up much better

The scaffold was the BEST investment!!!
was thinking the exact same thing. Best investment of the whole project
Geckos for siding are awesome. Used them on my farmhouse... whatta time saver. Zero guesswork and the rows came out perfect.
Yup, only "guess work" is first 2 rows after that it's just slide-secure-attach
I love "em" too!
