Your trip towards Westover Farm at Clatford fell short.. a word with the keeper in advance might have brought permission to visit the cut off section of canal there.. and had you hopped over the bridge from Leckford to Longstock, you would see part of the canal kept by the now John Lewis estate as a fishery.. and by the John O’Gaunt at Horsebridge you can follow the canal bed through the remains of Chalkhill lock..

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :) Re Westover farm, I was in contact with the landowner and they were happy for me to film. However, working full time+ means I have to schedule filming around all the usual commitments the family have, plus the weather so it didn't quite happen. Next spring I'm planning to try and organise it again, and do a update. Part of the route did take in Chalkhill lock, and the original cut of the film had a graphic and a few words about chalk quarrying in the area (quite a few chalk pits mentioned on old OS maps). I cut that bit out as I couldn't make what I did work. Bad / lazy editing I guess! Indeed, there's an awful lot I would have liked to include, but with literally hours of action cam footage - all looking remarkably similar - inevitably there's lots that gets deleted. But should I get the missing section on film, I'll go back and take some pics of the quarry and do a "Directors cut" version.

Oh! And you missed the Redbridge Wharf canal warehouse by the pub and now a dwelling. But still recognisable as a warehouse..

I honestly did not know that, and having street-viewed it, it's blindingly obvious isn't it? Again, I think that will be included in the directors cut version!

David, doing what you do best! Fascinating and a really good watch. I have retraced some of your rides inspired by your vids since you first started and really enjoy your historical take and depiction of the subject at hand. Please keep up the excellent and entertaining work. Thank you!

Great stuff again, love the animated maps which show the routes so well. Re the "small" railways, e.g. Fullerton to Whitchurch, not all were built for traffic and revenue but as ways to "defeat" the opposition, there was no love lost between the LSWR & the GWR! Queen Victoria did indeed travel via this route, reportedly she hated the tunnels between Basingstoke & Winchester! She also refused to travel through Portsmouth which she thought had "disrepected" her which was why her body was returned to London via Gosport!
