It's so wrong, like they have to whip their wives to keep em in line as a sort of what?? Showing dominance that they can control their wives? I mean it was acceptable around this time but that does not excuse that it was wrong. Janie's journey was to be herself and while yeah she is more free with Tea Cake than Jody and Logan, it just shows more that she still has ways to go. I haven't read to the end so idk what happens with Tea Cake or Janie but it's so ironic how she is trying to be an independent woman but is abused so that she's submissive to Tea Cake and he can prove to the other folks that he has her under control. Like as if being loud and expressive is wrong, and that's the entire opposite of the themes of this book
So I have this book for sophomore literature class (today's my last day of having to read it, thank god). Holy hell I hate it. For one you can't even read the text without the audio book, and the plot doesn't make sense. There's a lot of stupid things just to keep the plot moving and I hate it. Spoilers on next statement. I'm so glad Tea Cake and Joe/Jody (seriously why the hell does he have two names) die. They're so annoying. She should've just stood w Logan but ofc thats how they made the plot go along.
