I am recovering from a knee replacement and am facing 2 more joint replacement surgeries this year. Watching this guy has brought me a great deal of rest, peace, comfort and in touch with nature. It is a large part of my healing. Thank you. I only remember fishing once with my Dear Dad over 50 years ago at Lake Travis in Texas. I caught a perch but was totally grossed out by the whole worm torture. Today, it wouldn't bother me. Thank you for your work.

Way to go Nick. That was a good day of getting your lines wet. Finding your channel and watching your vids inspired me to gather some gear and get my license. I had not been fishing in years since my ex wife stole everything I owned. In a matter of three days I gathered 5 fishing poles and scored a loaded tackle box for $40 dollars. I immediately went and got my fishing license and now I'm getting lines wet at least once a week. Thank you for doing what you do and inspiring me to load up the Jeep and get back out there.

Yes, they work great! Just remember not to yank to set the hook. Just reel down slowly and let the tension in the line and scare the fish into swimming away. Then it’ll set the hook for you. Usually in the corner of the mouth.
Very fun to watch these videos, and see how fun fishing can be. I wish there was fishing like this in Western Nevada. Mostly lake trout, which can get very big, but only about 50/50 chance of not getting skunked, even on the little guys. There are also a couple of community built marinas, but a bit over fished.

Great video! The new species you caught was a goldeye, there's a almost identical species called a mooneye. The front of the dorsal fin on goldeye's are set back from the front of there anal fin and mooneye's dorsal fin is even with or ahead of the anal fin, and goldeye most of the time have a gold color to there eye. Oh and they are great cutbait.

Very nice bowfins nick. I just found a new spot that I'm now calling the Lair of the gar. There are schools of all kinds of gar here. I hooked up with one and got it close before it spit the hook out. But it looks the be a new state record. The current record for longnose gar in Florida is 41 lb. I'm sure this one is close if not more then that.

Good days sport and a great video Nick great job. We have a fish over here called the Chub. Big ones are harder to catch and also have very hard mouths. Have found barbless hooks to be helpfull as they penentrate deeper. As long as the line is always taught between rod and fish they dont come off in the fight. Wondered it the 'state record' Gar would fall to such a tactic. Tight lines.
Bowfin........... down in my neck of the woods (East and South Arkansas) those are called Grinnell or Cypress Trout......... plus many other names not repeatable on a family show....LOL

Shiners can be hard to identify, especially small ones. That is a goldeye. They have the size and tenacity to hit bass lures.

Thats my bait fish of choice in Montana for catfish. Its called a goldeye. Some can get up to 3 pounds.

I learn something every day. I've been fishing all my life, and the only bowfin I've heard of are Bowfin Tuna. The Bowfin you caught are new to me.
I caught a 30" "bowfin" once, turned out to be a snakehead😲 at that time, I didn't recognize nor ever heard of the species
