    Excellent glue-up on a massive tabletop.
    For a production shop, that S4 planer is the best thing since peanut butter and jelly. Wow!
    Thanks!

    I've done 20' lumber 3x12 on my jointer, mind you it has an 84" bed. I found that putting a 1/2" pipe at center point under the jointer so the jointer can "rock", this way you can set your stands a hair lower and stand by the jointer through the whole pass of your long board, works awesome. it's like you're jointing short lumber...

    Very nice Andy, I love your vids you remind me alot of myself, Im a retired Custom cabinet/Furniture maker. I built 2 confrence tables in my time one was a 12' like yours but I didnt have the machines s4s or a thickness sander, I did most of the milling with a router, hand planes & random orbit sander. But again Great vids man your a True Crafsman..... God Bless Brother

    Good to see you Andy. I am looking forward to this as I have done a couple big tops and love them.I did a cedar one for our community garden out of culls that turned out great. I have a video showing it. Just stills but you will know what went into it.I just love your shop and toys. It is much like ours. You need a roller for the glue bottle my friend. Makes a job like that go oh soooo quicker. Maple here is so expensive. I rarely get to work with it. So nice and stable and beautiful when the finish hits it.This is going to be amazing when done. See you for part 2 my friend.

    Once again, great video Andy. Jointing long boards are super difficult. I have a similar jointer/planer combo machine as you and I just broke down and bought a long track for my track saw to edge joint 8+ foot long boards. I have no idea what I would do if I had to do 12 + feet. Thanks again for the great video. This should be helpful if I ever have to tackle larger projects.

    Andy, I produce 12' bar tops and giant waterfall tables out of hard and wormy maple for Lifetime Fitness around the nation through my compamy in Colorado. I always split the widest board in half or at least to around 6" or so..... It's so much easier to run them through a jointer. And later if you still have gaps, hand plane away. Gain falls back together afterwards. Best regards.

    Andy, that S4S machine is awesome. What a perfect way to mill long boards for a big glue up. What make is it. When you do a big job like that you realize my shop is not big enough and your shop is huge, maybe not as big as April’s but still big enough. Good job

  • @williamwilson6578
    @williamwilson6578 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should pick up a track saw with the long tracks. I use my makita track saw to do most of my jointing on long boards like that. Works like a charm. Just another way to skin the cat.

  • @canadub1983
    @canadub1983 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nicely done. I’m curious about the choice to use the router to straight edge the table halves before the final glue up. I would have thought it would have been quicker and possibly more accurate to use the track saw? Maybe didn’t have a long enough track to do the whole table? Either way, the router obviously did the job! 👍

    If your miling timber through a four sider, make sure there’s no twists/bows etc because the machine won’t plane them out, it’ll just squish the timber flat and once it comes out the other side it’ll spring back up. That’s why a lot of big box store timbers look like bananas.

    looks like you are going to need to find a good used Deihl straight line rip for the straight edge. It actually gives you a better glue joint and surface than a jointer.

  • @Faster_Learning
    @Faster_Learning 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey
    Very nice video
    I have a tip:
    If your jointing somthing with a routher like you did with de wide board allways joint both peaces a a time side by side, thisway if you aving a little wave in your board or a bump your gonne have the exact oposite at the other side. This way thers a perdect glue joint!

    I too look forward to Part 2. Enjoyed watching you manhandling those boards. You handle the 700 XL Domino machine well too. Since you are a one person shop, I suggest that you consider a couple of Lift Table Carts. Harbor Freight sell the for about $250. Northern Tool + Equipment have one about the same price. Another suggestion, a Festool Track Saw could possibly joint those boards. Their OF 1400 router also has guides that attach to the track saw's rail for a straight routing.

    • @AndyRawls
      @AndyRawls  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      YEs, a festool router on guides would be awesome. I still haven't broken down to pay for the big Festool router.
