One could write a novel trying to describe the intricate qualities and abilities of Angelina's vocal expertise. A gift was bestowed on her by God she was even before she was born and she opened it while still a baby when she was a year and a half old.
Bjarte Hjelmeland says: It doesn't help that you are repeating over and over again, don't you cry. It is impossible for me to held my tears back. That's when the audience are laughing.
Wow... she is stunning. Always stunning. It is not easy to translate since I now don't remember word by word. The first judge was very moved. The second said she seldom got moved by performances, but she cried like a baby to this performance. The 3 judge sais mostly the same, he gad promised himself not to cry... but he lost thar batle. But he also said ot was unbelieveble that she would be 18 years old in 10 years... he couldn't believe she was such a young child. The ladt judge daid it best, she got a gift that eas rare today. Many people could sing, most singer do just that, but Angelina doesn't sing, she she conveys a message she conveys feelings and emotions. That is rare. Abd she has an enornous responsibility with what she does with her gift, her talent.
@@vernonpang2805 I don't think so. She did some concerts in Norway around Christmas, and she is doing two in July (at least I've only found two: www.proysenhuset.no/angelina-jordan.6208783-468630.html and www.arsteinoya.no/), but the image at her facebook page taken 17th of May (our national day) has palms in the background (so not in Norway). I think they travel to Norway for Christmas and summer vacation, but I haven't seen anything to suggest that they have moved back to Norway (but I don't know them, so I obviously don't know for sure).
There were 10 acts in the finals of 2014 Norway's Got Talent. Angelina got 46% of the votes, while the other nine acts together received the remaining 54%. So the outcome wasn't even close. Not only the judges, but the voting public were in awe of this prodigious wonder-child. And at 13 and over 100 covers later, she just keeps getting better and better. Best wishes, Eddie. Billy J
George Gershwin was one of the greatest jazz composers of the twentieth century, his repertoire is breathtaking, not just fantastic jazz numbers like this, which of course is from the wonderful musical 'Porgy & Bess'. But this genius also wrote classical masterpieces such as 'Rhapsody In Blue'. Tragically he died in his thirties so his potential was not fully exposed. To now find this young child singing his most beautiful song in a way that Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne and Billy Holiday would have been proud to deliver is remarkable. I firmly believe that Angelina will become one of the greatest interpreters of jazz of all time along with those three ladies I mentioned above.

Summertime has to be one the most famous song of all times. It has been covered by countless artists over the years. It works best with a little southern accent (jumpin', lookin'). Summertime, And the livin' is easy Fish are jumpin' And the cotton is high Oh, Your daddy's rich And your mamma's good lookin' So hush little baby Don't you cry One of these mornings You're going to rise up singing Then you'll spread your wings And you'll take to the sky But until that morning There's a'nothing can harm you With your daddy and mammy standing by Summertime, And the livin' is easy Fish are jumpin' And the cotton is high Your daddy's rich And your mamma's good lookin' So hush little baby Don't you cry
Her first 3 songs here are fantastic...she's already a winner there. But her finals performance SUMMERTIME is just unearthly. I mean it's just impossible to happen. But it did... Call it magic, miracle or whatever you want to call it... In this particular time it's all true. And Angelina did become the medium of something heavenly.
Totally agree except that Bang, bang is as good in my opinion. My favorite version of Angelinas Summertime is here: th-cam.com/video/X6i-U-ZvZdg/w-d-xo.html
Now that you have seen her do "summertime" at 8, you should check out this version she did a couple years later at 10... th-cam.com/video/stwF4ti1tbc/w-d-xo.html Her growth (both vocally and physically) in just 2 years is pretty amazing.... and then 2 years after that she's doing 'born to die' and 'million years ago'... what insane magic is she going to be doing 2 years from now!?!
Summertime is one of my three or four favorite songs. I discovered it very early teenager, in the film Porgy and Bess, today forgotten and perhaps even disappeared. I have long tried to sing it, but I have never succeeded. It seems pretty difficult. So, it's remarkable to achieve this at the age of 8. Angelina was incredable here ! 💖 Of course, the unmatched version remains that of Ella and Louis, from Porgy and Bess, complete : th-cam.com/video/h3kQt14_5OQ/w-d-xo.html
I forgot to give my thought on the actual performance. In this song Angelina is using a vibrato on almost every single vowel, and she's not overdoing it in any way. It's just the right amount of vibrato at every single stage of the song. She's even gliding on the notes while maintaining the vibrato like f.ex. on the word "high" in "and the cotton is high". Then comes the soft tone in "dad" at 5:36 with a completely different timbre in her voice .. how doe she do that?
Yozhik v Tumane, I'm a very old woman, (83) have listened to music all my life, & became acquainted with jazz at age 13, so I've heard the best of every genre, including folk, opera, classical, country, & rock. I can think of only one other singer who does what you describe Angelina as doing. That is her selective, deliberate use of her fine vibrato, her brilliant dynamic range, and seemingly effortless ability to glide from one register to another. How can she know these things at age 8? The world is blessed with many other great singers, but the one I have in mind is Freddie Mercury.
Bjarte Hjelmeland, the judge you asked about with the whiskey voice (half of which is probably because of his dialect), is primarily a stage actor at the National Theater in Oslo, but he's also a director and musician/singer and he was the manager of the National Theater in the city of Bergen for a couple of years.
At 5:48 she even sings the line Louis chimes in with right before Ella sings the final "So hush little baby", where he says, "Don't you say, oh…" (or something like that). th-cam.com/video/h3kQt14_5OQ/w-d-xo.htmlm15s She's almost whispering and has the mic away from her mouth, though, so you can barely hear it.
I would love a reaction to her cover of I Who Have Nothing (not the Whitney Huston song) you can see her teeth is about the same as in Norway Got Talent, so it must have been done when she was 7-8 years old. She sings with only a hint of rasp and with so much power it sometimes seems like she is levitating. At the end of the video they talk a little in Norwegian, she asks if it was good and gets a strong yes and the man say it was a very good first try and then they discuss that she mixed up the lyrics a bit in the middle of the song. th-cam.com/video/RjQZKBpVaes/w-d-xo.html Angelina Jordan - I Who Have Nothing - Complete performance
