I don't ever remember them saying that they did the contest because they wanted to redo it. I think they had a contest just to involve the fans more and do something different. Carly Rae Jepsen has done GTY in concert, so it's not like they could only use Kate on stage. They may have brought her back to rerecord it because Kate didn't want to/couldn't do the video, but I don't think the original intention of the contest was to rerecord the video.
Then: 'Yeah, you don't want to hear me sing.' - Really Matt? I'm pretty sure I died during the Bad Girl video, and cried during 'Goodbye Addict'. New favourite cd is Coda and Jacket. Now: 'I'm a terrible guitar player.' - Okay Matt, you need to stop putting yourself down because you're awesome and I love you. You're an awesome singer and an awesome guitarist.
Well, Jessica won the concert contest, and I think that they wanted to release the song and I think the thought of bringing back Jessica because she was somewhat of a "crowd" favorite was somewhat in their minds. I believe Josh said it in some interview, maybe the one with Sarah Taylor for Much Music? It's floating around TH-cam somewhere probably haha
