The North Mississippi Allstars released ‘Up & Rolling’ in October of 2019 on New West Records.
Their new LP is perhaps their finest to date, with guest appearances from Mavis Staples, Jason Isbell and fellow Hill Country resident, Cedric Burnside.
Brothers Luther & Cody are the free spirited inheritors of hill country blues, helping broaden the reach of the juke joint repertoire of RL Burnside, Mississsippi Fred McDowell & Junior Kimbrough to a younger jam band audience.
We discuss the making of the new album, their attitude on blues in the 21st century & they perform the title track from the new LP - 'Up & Rolling'

I used to follow these guys around, in High-school, growing up in North Mississippi. We'd take our homemade fake ID or the "Blue Ligbt Studio Special" ID, and sneak into every shithole that would let them play! Lmao 🤣 20ft x 60ft bar, tiny stage cramed in the window and door, and every college asshole north of Oxford. I'm pretty happy they're famous! Now people I used to tell what it was like, musically, in that area was like! :)
