Just in case you're wondering, I've retested Windows with Defender turned off (in-app settings + raw write notifications group policy) but it didn't give any noticeable improvement to the heavy stuttering. I don't think it's an issue of too little Java memory allocation as well since I increased it to 3072MB and it also didn't help. And yes, GPU usage reporting is currently not working in MangoHud (Linux). Sorry for the phone recording! I don't have a capture card at the moment so I had to record without OBS to avoid performance effects from that. World used is Hermitcraft 7.
Crazy to see that on an iGPU. I used to run Half-Life 2 on my i5-4210m with UHD 4600 and that poor thing barely got 30 FPS. Minecraft 1.8 got about 8 FPS. Crazy to think about how far computer's have come in 10 years.
Glad it helped! Keep in mind that if you use Nvidia graphics you won't have that much difference between windows and Linux performance. It's just for AMD and Intel GPUs where it can make a big difference.
Java is better optimised on Linux because enterprise servers use it, opengl is better optimised on Linux because on windows GPU manufacturers focus on directx and vulkan.
Can confirm Minecraft runs considerably better than windows, I am using nobara btw For a higher performance, you can run Minecraft on GraalVM java which is faster than the common java most people use, also you must try Vulkan mod as on mesa drivers it gives wonderful fps increase (more than using sodium)
umm hello, i just downloaded linux mint cinnamon 21.3 on my laptop with intel i3 4030u and nvidia 820m with 6gb of ram, im new to linux and i havent done anything to it besides on downloading the nvidia driver, and i diwnloaded a cracked version of minecraft using sklauncher while using the remarkably optimized modpack . . . and why is this, in windows with some optimizations on chris titus tool and using softwares to boost fps like hone, with the RO modpack i can get 150-185 fps, and in linux with the same modpack no optimizations on the OS im getting 30-50 fps, can you help me on how to improve my gaming performance, like i said this is my first time using linux, i just made the switch 4 days ago
Likely a compositor issue. If we could get in contact maybe I could help Or you may be using the wrong drivers. Nouveau has bad performance - it's better to use official Nvidia drivers.

Bro. I play in i7 2620M with HD 3000 and gets 80fps 1.21.1 sodium and lithium
I was getting ~400fps on windows
I now use arch and I'm consistently getting over 700 fps on vanilla
Do you use an AMD GPU?
@@pixelsam123 nope, nvidia through envycontrol
@@forbiddentictactoe1734 damn that's unexpected
than you can say, "I use arch btw."

ok i have i5 4 gen with 4 gb ram and intel hd 4600. should i use windows or linux for minecraft
What Linux are you using for this comparison?
on my i5 3300u it went from like 20 fps to 100 fps no optifine btw
Very nice

This is likely true on AMD and Intel but will not help Nvidia. Nvidia has good OpenGL drivers
GraalVM will be interesting to test.
If you want, I can send you my build with Vulkan mod. This is true perfomance with vulkan32 modpacks
I didn't know what it was java graalvm.Thank you so much!
