I think the anger that Flint and Mady share, Silver cannot even fathom it. He is not gay, he is not a slave, all he sees is their unsatiable hunger. They want to be free to be who they are with no shackles attached. Great reaction guys ! As always !
I think it's more selfish love. He finally found something in this world that he cares about (Maddy) and so nothing else matters. He understand their plight but measured against his own needs they aren't as important. His entire legacy was a lie that Billy made and though he has changed a bit, he's still the selfish man we met in season 1. It's why I wish somehow we can get a follow up Treasure Island series so we can see when this all catches up to him and haunts him.
Totally agree. I see Silver fans get angry when you say he has privilege but he does. No one is going to hang him for being in love with a woman (as Flint could've been for loving Thomas) or enslave him based off the color of his skin (as Madi and her people have been).
THIS is the sort of payoff Black Sails is all about. From the very beginning of the show, the looming presence of the Spanish Empire has been talked about in passing - there are countless times the characters referred to the time there was a Spanish raid on the island and the devastation it caused, the characters been playing with fire with the Spanish gold for the entire show, there have been talk of Spanish spies and intelligence and their anger towards the pirates of Nassau - and then that zoom out to show that the Spanish have finally turned up? Chills. This show does it like no other - three and a half seasons worth of subtle build up for this enemy.
Fun pirate trivia with eye patches: Most pirates who wore them were gunners who manned the cannons below deck. If they were above deck and a prize was found and voted upon to siege, when they went below deck, they would move the eyepatch from one eye to the other to have fast adjusted vision when going into the darkness below.
I always loved, how this show depicted the Spanish Empire. Most movies and shows for some reason always show Spain weak. Mosty only their treasure ships as some kind of plot device. They simply forgot, that at this point in time especially in the Carribean, Spain was a powerhouse to be recogned with. This show goes a different path. From Season 1 ongoing there is always this subtle but strong fear of Spain. The powerful and disciplined Manowar in Season 1 was just a glimps of it, if you will. Next episode will be a tough one.
Just as Steven always says how he underestimates Rogers, I love the look on Flint's face at the end when Jack is telling him the kind of man Rogers really is - he too has a look of "shit I might have underestimated him". I hate him, he is such a great villain.
I think Flint never considered that Rogers would go against Eleanor like this, not the woman he married and supposedly loves above all others. Flint would have never betrayed Thomas this way so he wrongly assumes others will honor the wishes of the people they love as he would have.
@@charleyMD17 never thought about it like that! hmmmmm.... makes one think. i think Flint underestimated Rogers because he saw him as a smart politician but nothing more. I think even when he was in the navy, Flint never really had much respect for non-soldierly types.
@@HNCS2006 I think after Alfred Hamilton & Peter Ashe, Flint isn't likely to overlook the dangers of a politician, especially one who used to be a privateer like Rogers. Flint recognized himself a bit in Rogers when they had their meeting that time. I think he knows Rogers can be a hardass, he just didn't expect Rogers to betray Eleanor's wishes and put Eleanor in danger by doing so.
Every time Steven underestimated Woodes Rogers, in the back of my mind I was like: Just wait until he sees the guy do the 18th century equivalent of the nuclear option!
Yep at that moment he made the decision clear. I don't think Billie realizes how close John and Maddie and John and Flint have truly become. Billy reasons that if John truly loves Maddie, he will see the madness of the war but I don't think Billy realizes that Maddie will not be convinced otherwise and John is here for Maddie at this point. And he has also grown so much in his respect and admiration for Flint. He would never have gone along with Billy in opposition to both of them.
What I really love about these reactions is that you both obviously love this show as much as I do...and probably more. And I didn't think that was even possible.
Silver caught some Hands! 😆 For keeping score in the "Love Or War" question this season -- Eleanor said love, but Rogers says war. I love your costumes. Happy Halloween!
Forsake WHAT other shows?? 🤣 they’ve got like 3 episodes left. Then that’s it. Let them draw it out. The last run of the series is phenomenal. It’s an empty feeling when it’s gone lol and there’s on 1 Ep left of MM and 3? of SG. Then it’s the wait for Hawkeye & Expanse.
I almost scrolled right past this on my notifications feed because I have a lot of Black Sails videos that pop up, but yours are the ones I look forward to the most, and I didn’t even recognize you both in the thumbnail! Those costumes are that great 🙂
I know guys. What an amazing episode!!! Just more proof of how tight and well written the show is. I probably sound like a broken record at this point lol. One point: Woods officer on the prison ship disobeyed his orders which subsequently led to the fight or flight response in that entire captured crew which then led to the ship being taken by the pirates. I don't think we can blame Woods for what happened to Anne. That was entirely the fault of that one subordinate that decided to play mini hunger games with the crew. Like obviously Woods would have no problem whatsoever killing all of them as his past history shows but he didn't actually order the deaths of all those prisoners. Did he leave them in the hands of an angry and Vengeful officer? Well yes. But I am not quite sure its fair to pin those deaths on him. Great episode though. Loved your reaction and analysis. The Billy and John and Maddie and John conversations were so so good and the lead up John's decision with Israel Hands slapping him...so incredible. And the scene between Roger's and the informant and Roger's and the governor. It was son chilling to see the lengths he is willing to go to. So excited for this next one. Cheers.
'And I don't Know like, how the history plays out in this, it's something I definitely personally try to avoid'. Don't worry about the history right now, because none of this shit happened like it does in this show. Just because they used some figures from history, doesn't make the show a portrayal of history. Just enjoy this fictional story, that's enough for now. Even though it's not historical, I love this show.
I haven't gotten caught up to this season yet, but I had to drop in to have a look-see at your costumes. Fantastic!! Enjoy your Halloween with the kids, and stay safe. 😊❤️
Wow 😲, when you moved your patch over I realized it looks like you have a black eye!!! The point of Elenor taking the cash was so Woods Rogers would be able to keep his promise to the Spanish and pay back his debt, and then they could have a normal life together away from all this craziness. Naturally trying to get that across the way she did this episode wasn't exactly the best plan, as she completely underestimated his stubbornness.
Well, Billy made his choice when he couldn't see the bigger picture behind Flint's plan and wrecked it at the Underhill Estate which claimed Underhill himself and his family a second time, along with going against Flint's deal to give up the Urca gold. Billy deluded himself if he didn't think there wouldn't be any consequences for that mess. He had to go.
You have to look at it from billy perspective. He built the rebellion in Nassau just to have flint and silver come in and mismanage it and flip flop all over the place without clear communication outside of “trust us” we know they’re in the right because we see flint and silvers perspective as well but from Billy’s perspective it seems like flint and silver are willing to risk peoples lives for an end goal that seems to keep changing. Most people in Billy’s situation would be fed up with it as well.
@@johnmartin795 yea except he was sent to Nassau as part of Flints crew. He wasn't an outside player who build up a resistance, he used Vane, Silver and Flints name to build that resistance so all of this amounts to a betrayal of his crew. Flint and Eleanor are great at making big picture moves, even Maddy has shown she can see that justification. I fear, like Silver you guys are still being guided by your emotions when it comes to understanding some of these choices. It’s like watching only fantastic beasts series and not knowing who dombledore is and what his role is the Harry Potter series.
