Everything was right, except you failed to educate about why a soldier keeps his rank. All you explained is oath and known things.
Legally Article 18 allows Soldiers to keep Rank.
Mainly, Ranks are earned not given. This is reason why they keep it with them throughout life and beyond.

cannot compare civil service and armed forces. both of them have different duties and functions. Civil service and defence is a part of the nation. No service is above or below other. every job has its own respect and values at the end the job will pay the price of the food u eat not the people who criticise your job or compare it. Dont compare any job if its a group D job or Group A job. Every job matter.

Never understood why civil servents are regarded so high, thier job is mere adminstration, it doesn't require smartest of the smartest.
Nordic contries regards teacher and scientists really high, as they are the one who keeps thier country ahead in every aspects.
Even if the civil services do there best job, it will be mostly just good adminstration, which actually never happens, you'll see such a poor management in all government offices. Be it post office, police, custom, passport, public work, municipality, etc.

@Ashish Tripathi Sadly, we live in a country where the status and signficance of a job is decided by it's exam. You see, IIT-JEE, NEET and Civil Services exams are sought be the toughest and also, most popular exams in India and getting through is a big job( Not saying that Defence exams are any easier, but many people are just ignorant about the selection procedure.). And that is where the problem comes from. Once s/he clears an exam, he's regarded as a God, overlooking his/her success in his work. The points made by you sre very satisfying, though many will be offended because they are also trapped by the delusional virtual system that we as a society have created.
Being a *WORTHY* teacher, scientist or a soldier demands the highest endeavor. But these challenging jobs are always depreciated considering that getting these jobs is relatively easier than the mentioned above.
It's an absolute failure, I think, that sill let us down someday.

Where does it say that? Please guide. Also please shed light on circular, issued on July 21 by the Army
    A. ARTICLE 18 OF THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION:
    1. Abolition of titles:
    (1) No title, not being a military or academic distinction, shall be conferred by the State.
    (2) No citizen of India shall accept any title from any foreign State.
    (3) No person who is not a citizen of India shall, while he holds any office of profit or trust under the State, accept without the consent of the President any title from any foreign State.
    (4) No person holding any office of profit or trust under the State shall, without the consent of the President, accept any present, emolument, or office of any kind from or under any foreign State.
    Explanation:
Article 18(1) abolishes all titles. It prohibits the State to confer titles on anybody whether a citizen or a non-citizen. Military and academic distinctions are, however, exempted from the prohibition. Thus, a university can give title or honor on a man of merit. Clause (2) prohibits a citizen of India from accepting any title from any foreign State. Clause (3) prohibits a person not being a citizen of India, but holding any office of profit or trust under the State, from accepting any title from any foreign State without the consent of the President. Clause (4) provides that no person citizen or non citizen holding any office of profit or trust, shall, without consent of the President, accept any present or emolument or office of any kind from or under any foreign State.. Clauses (3) and (4) have been added to ensure that a non-citizen should remain loyal to the State i.e. do not commit the breach of trust reposed in him.
A ‘title’ is something that hangs to one’s name, as an appendage (either prefix or suffix e.g. Sir, Nawab, Maharaja, etc.). A democracy should not create titles and titular glories. This will go against the realization of social equality.
However, the recent conferment of titles of “Bharat Ratna”, “Padma Vibhushan”, “Padma Shri”, etc. (introduced in 1954) are said to be not prohibited under Article 18 as they merely denote State recognition of good work by citizens in the various fields of activity. It may be noted that Article 18 does not secure any fundamental right but imposes a restriction on executive and legislative power. Further, conferring of titles offended against the fundamental principle of equality of all citizens guaranteed by Article 14.
