I've watched a lot of tuning videos over a few years in this hobby and I'd say this video is right at the top of all of them, if not the top. You explain in a way everyone can understand and don't try to explain how a flight controller works or the math involved or any of that type of stuff we really don't care about. Thanks, hope you continue to do vids like this and not just you acro vids.
You have absolutely no reason to apologize for anything in your videos (or descriptions)!! :) Thank you for being a huge part of this hobby. You're paving the way for the rest of us and you're a huge inspiration for so many of us!! The first time I saw one of your videos I was blown away and I promised myself that someday I will fly like Skitzo.
The thing I notice about this versus pretty much everyone else is that he is very smooth and easy on the sticks, and he is focused on one axis at a time, and that goes a long way to getting your copter to fly right. You can't tune if you are very spastic and if you are all over the place. Thanks for sharing this, Jon.
Best PID tuning guide ive seen. Spend a good year stuggling with this and been more confused after watching other videos. Now after one video i feel i completely understand. No bullshit. Fair play
Mate, this was one of the best videos yet.. really enjoy when people take the time to actually explain their process and share to make this hobby better for everyone.. props bro ..
SKITZO!!! Just wanted to say thank you publicly. Between yours and Stingy's tuning vids, this nooby newcomer was able to tune my quad. You turned my frustrations into positive energy and helped me stay focused on my goal. No more throttle wobble for me, now to fine tune it. Thanks again! 👊
This is the proper way to show everyone how to tune a quad, I know it's everyone is different and like steele sets on a rotor riot, you need to find you personal tuning/numbers. Skizto great job, and congratulations for your motors, frame and everything you are being working!!
Hey Skitzo, Just wanted to tell ya, no matter how many videos about tuning i watch, or the number of bb logs i pour over, this video still is the best, and the method that always nails the feel i'm looking for - Just went back to it today when re-tuning a quad, and just wanted you to know how much I appreciate it. Keep doing what you are doing, don't stop reminding us that this hobby is all about the fun :-)
Thanks for this. This is the only video I've watched on PIDs and tuning that really makes sense to me. I didn't need all of the math and theory. I needed a "this is what to look for and do" thing. I appreciate it!
Thanks for spending the time to put this together. This puts me in check I have been pretty lazy with my tunes latley. Your video inspired me me to take a little time and retune my setup.
Really awesome video. Noone has ever really done a tuning video like this. Where they work on one axis alone and point out what they're feeling/seeing as well as the video. Really appreciate all the work that went into this.
Awesome walkthrough! I've watched plenty of tuning videos, both good and bad, but your casual approach to it sits best with me. Thanks a lot, keep rippin'!
Hey man thanks so much for this, this is the first video that's actually really helped me and changed everything of what I thought tuning was. I liked how you clarified to do every axis separate, and that its more about the pilot then the quad. Also how tuning is an important part of maintenance and keeping your components crisp. I think it pushes people to start to really try to do it themselves. I know I'm going too, I freaking needed it. Thanks so much!
Many thanks for this vid Skitzo . I struggle to tune quads usually. Watched this video many times over a the past few weeks to digest it all, then went to the field today with my new built quad and tablet pc with betaflight running. Four Lipos done (all I have!) and I got it tuned well enough for my ability (I am sure it can be improved, but for now -WOW feels good!) Thanks again for taking the time to do these videos - They help so many!
Jon just wanted to say thanks. Been flying on stock kiss pids for the 3 months I've been flying. I've watched loads of vids on tuning and this is the one that helped me the most so far. Heading out to finally tackle the tuning issue. Keep up the great vlogs love em
Man .... This video was soooo Helpful mate !! On my 130 quad I was having problems with flight time and motors getting too hot. Now I will go through the settings and get that fixed! Thanks SKytzo, you saved my 130quad soul :)
Thanks a ton Skitzo!!!The tuning explanation helped me go from flying a Rhinoceros, to more of a graceful and locked in machine. Again, thanks for sharing the 'know how'!
Man, I've watched a ton of videos hoping to learn how to PID tune. Most of them are about what PIDs are and never go into how to adjust and where to start. Without some starting point and a plan it would just be a wild ass guess. Thank you so much!
thank you skitzo.. this method works really well, I've been at it for a year or so and this video brought it all together for me :) im enjoying fpv again and not thinking about pids when I'm flying.. look forward to all your vids, all the best dude
I'm feeling like if I watch this several times at the field while tuning I can 1 tune my kwad and 2 actually be learning how to fly it as well, very informative video.
This is Awesome! Your explanations are super clear and easy to understand. I really look forward to getting my quad built and dialed. Tuning has been the biggest mystery to me. Took me a long time to get my Tricopter where I was happy but its far from right. I didn't quite understand it. Thanks for taking the time to put this together for us. This definitely takes some of the fear out of tuning for me. Hope you get to spend the weekend ripping it up with the crew. :-)
Great vid mate. Ive watched sooooo many tuning pid vids and it took me a long time to get my head around the process. You nailed it on the head with this way to tune them.
Your method finally made sense to me and I was able to get "by far" my best tune yet. In addition I now have a great method to start from as I tune in different set ups. Thanks bro.
Very cool video. It took me a whole summer, 6-8 batteries a day to get a handle on tuning. Now im like you. I enjoy flying a newly built copter and knowing what it needs by what I see and feel. Changing values and feeling it get better and better. It took awhile to see and feel the changes I was making, have an effect. Sometimes its subtle. But it is enjoyable. Music is a must.
Thanks for the valuable input! Going out of your way to inform others of your "theory" on tuning helps create another tool in our arsenal to get things right. Keep it up!
I now know what "i" helps with. I didn't know that drift at low throttle could be tuned out. I want it to stay there when I drop throttle and do a maneuver. I love punching it up and kind of hanging there. I just figured wind and that was pushing my quad around when it would roll or pitch on it's own. I didn't know that and I excited to go and tune that out now!!!!
ive watched this video so many times.. you rock skitzo. I watched it the day it came out and revisit each time im trying to tune my quad. always find something i missed. yes im approaching finding fpv almost a year ago and i still struggle tuning.
wow...i actually understand your PID technical language explanation compare to the others, this will help a lot of pilots out there..really like it and appreciate your effort..keep on flying Mr Skitzo:)
Thanks for this video - good job! I have watched several PID tuning videos (including other rotor riot members' videos) and this is the best one by far. After watching your video, I understand what's going on and can't wait to go tune my quad!
Well done John now maybe everyone including me will stop asking the Atlanta crew for pid numbers in you videos and periscope and on Facebook thanks John you have given thousands of people the best idea on how to start tuning and what to look for you are a legend dude keep up the great work can't wait for the frame and keep the content coming thanks SKITZO
I think I am starting to get this "tuning" thing! Great video, I think I have what I need to start successfully tuning! Love the music tip! I recently started flying with music, and I fly so much better with that "pumped" feeling! Thanks for the great content!
Here is a cheat sheet for PID controllers: P: Is the power. When you increase this, more power will go to motors. If it's too high, you'll get low freq. oscilations. If it's too low, it'll feel sluggish. I: Is the speed. How fast the controller will try to correct errors. If it's too high. You'll get high freq oscillations. Your quad will sound like a hummingbird. If it's too low, it'll take forever for your quad to get to the correct position and once it does, you'll see bouncing. D: Is dampening. It'll slow down the motor outputs when they are just about where they need to be. This can be used to mask inaccurate P's and I's. While tuning your quad, leave D very close to zero. Once you did P and I, you might tune this. But if your design and hardware is good. You might not need it at all. One the other hand, if you have a heavy and unbalanced quad(carrying a DSLR up front etc.) you'll definitely need this.
Vlog number 3? Roll P starts at 3? Black Mesa Research facility t-shirt in video? Half Life 3 confirmed!!? Seriously though, this video is amazingly insightful. I hope you find the time to keep sharing your knowledge as this is really well thought-out and explained.
Awesome video Skitzo, I really wanted to get some lesson about tuning. I like the feeling that you put in your flights, and as you say, it's a way of expressing!
You guys rock. You and Stingy have the most informative and helpful tuning vids. You make my 6" Alien with all Kiss fc and esc's really enjoyable. Thanks for making us new guys look like we know what we're Doing! lol..
that was amazing Johnathan!!! I finally feel confident enough to attempt my first tune now :) Seriously, appreciate all the effort and hard work you put back into the hobby. much love!!!!! stay frosty
Thanx man! Think i actually learned some stuff, only one thing, i was turning the sound up n down between you teaching me and the music which was loud compared to you talking. Much appreciated and keep up the good work and flyn! Thanx again man
Thanks for this man! I just built my first quad and was able to get a pretty good tune after just a couple battery's still playing with minor adjustments as I learn to fly a little better! I only know one other person who flys and they started just before I did and hate pid's. So I feel like this made it simple enough that just starting I can enjoy it.
Awesome tutorial, very well explained. Plain and simple. I'm sure it won't be as simple when I try this tomorrow, but at least I have a plan know. Thanks man.
That was a great video man!! Best explanation for tuning I have seen. Thanks for taking the time to do this! Well done brotha!! Hope to fly with you again soon.
Perfect statement I've been flying for about 7 months and in the last 2 just figured out how to tune. The music part I've never done but you're right I always listen to music working out will start now while I fly.
That's interesting Mister antigravity because the way you tuned your P values actually dealed more with I values! Generally for tunning my P values, i raise them individually until i get oscillation during throttle punchouts except for YAW which is a bit more delicate to tune! Very nice share, pretty happy to see how you tune your quad! Thanks for sharing and happy week
Your approach to tuning is straightforward and easy yo understand, I love it. More importantly is your recommendation to fly to music. Next week's "Through The Goggles" is going to be the connection of FPV and music; flying is all about rhythm.....
This is the best tuning video out there!!! Now we will see the SKITZO experience everywhere :) great job buddy
man...Thank you for taking the time and explain it in a "human" way...definitely one of the best tuning videos I've seen, totally got the concepts
Finally someone of the pro's actually explaining and showing his tuning methods. Thank you, this is a great help!!
New to PID tuning. I actually learned more from this video then watching so many hours of other PID tuning videos.
Great vid, love the fact there is no ego and flaunting in your vlogs
The thing I notice about this versus pretty much everyone else is that he is very smooth and easy on the sticks, and he is focused on one axis at a time, and that goes a long way to getting your copter to fly right. You can't tune if you are very spastic and if you are all over the place. Thanks for sharing this, Jon.
Most helpful video I've seen yet. Insightful enough to get the basics of PID tuning but not too slow to feel repetitive. Million thanks for this!
This was the best "simple" explanation on tuning I have seen. Not one mention of oscillations and how to listen for them (thank god). LOL

One of the best videos explaining how to tune PID, it doesn't get technical, it was a realistic approach which was great. Thanks for doing this! :)
This is the proper way to show everyone how to tune a quad, I know it's everyone is different and like steele sets on a rotor riot, you need to find you personal tuning/numbers. Skizto great job, and congratulations for your motors, frame and everything you are being working!!
Hands down the best tuning guide I've ever seen. You sir is what makes this hobby so awesome and so much fun! Thanks for all your effort!

This is probably the best simple tune explanation I've seen, thank you. Also love your flying style.
Thanks for this. This is the only video I've watched on PIDs and tuning that really makes sense to me. I didn't need all of the math and theory. I needed a "this is what to look for and do" thing. I appreciate it!
I have learnt more about my quad and tuning than all youtube pid tuning videos combined. Thank you Skitzo.
Best "getting into tunning" video IMO. Thank you, master.
The best explanation I've heard about PID , please continue to enrich us with information and thank you very much
Awesome walkthrough! I've watched plenty of tuning videos, both good and bad, but your casual approach to it sits best with me. Thanks a lot, keep rippin'!
Great tuning tutorial! This is honestly one of the best, if not the best one I've seen. Thanks for putting this together.
This is by far my favorite tuning video. confirmed that my process is on the right track which gives me hope. Thank you!

After watching a few times , the light went on and tuning is coming along nicely now , Best tuning video I''ve seen.
Nice one Skitzo
Many thanks for this vid Skitzo .
I struggle to tune quads usually. Watched this video many times over a the past few weeks to digest it all, then went to the field today with my new built quad and tablet pc with betaflight running.

Love the way you explained "pid" 's in this video, the small clips inbetween were so helpful! Thank you v much!
Skitzo's tuning a.k.a. tuning with no math in it. I am starting to see the genius in your flying.
This is Awesome! Your explanations are super clear and easy to understand. I really look forward to getting my quad built and dialed. Tuning has been the biggest mystery to me. Best tuning video, not over complicated. I'm now pumped to go tuning!
One of the best videos on tuning I've seen. I'm having a rough time tuning my copter but with your methodology I'm sure I will get to a good tune.
This is the best tuning video. I always come back to it.

Big Ups Skitzo for sharing your knowledge on tuning! It's helping me learn to tune with a methodical approach. Keep it coming...
Great Video Skitzo. It's good to see you in front of the camera and putting out videos like this. Great job!
Lax FPV pilot yeah, he should keep going!

You are so right! Flying with music definitely makes a huge difference in the flight. You rock Skitzo!
Thanks for the valuable input! Going out of your way to inform others of your "theory" on tuning helps create another tool in our arsenal to get things right. Keep it up!
Just what i needed ! As i am tuning my Alien right now. Great tutorial, easy to understand. Thanks a bunch !
Thank you for the tuning help I had really no idea how to. This is a huge help thanks!!!!
I see that Black Mesa shirt :)
I now know what "i" helps with. I didn't know that drift at low throttle could be tuned out. I want it to stay there when I drop throttle and do a maneuver. In 24 hours after seeing this video, I have a much better-tuned quad. Thanks a lot!
Is it Chrismas? 2 videos in 24h
Keep it up dude, love your content
ive watched this video so many times.. you rock skitzo. I watched it the day it came out and revisit each time im trying to tune my quad. always find something i missed. yes im approaching finding fpv almost a year ago and i still struggle tuning.
Soooo many thanks Skitzo. I really appreciate you spend your time helping us out. Really appreciate it!
Hands down best tuning vid I've seen yet!
This is the most helpful PID tuning video I have seen, now I got a good idea for how to proceed. Thank you :)
Thanks so much for taking the time to do this Skitzo! I love your tuning logic. I saved this in my favorites :)
Thanks, Skitzo! Much respect for what you're doing for the community, man.
that has to be the best pid video iv seen. simple and to the point thank you
wow...i actually understand your PID technical language explanation compare to the others, this will help a lot of pilots out there..really like it and appreciate your effort..keep on flying Mr Skitzo:)
I love how this video is straight forward and practical. You are the man!

Very well constructed video, cool explanation on how the feel is practically what really drives the "perfect tune" perception. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for a fun and informative explanation on tuning the PIDs. Great job! I look forward to my next tuning session!
Straight, direct and to the point. Thanks for the tutorial.
Tuning tips from the best acro pilot in the world? Yes please!
I think I am starting to get this "tuning" thing! Great video, I think I have what I need to start successfully tuning! Love the music tip! I recently started flying with music, and I fly so much better with that "pumped" feeling! Thanks for the great content!
Thanks, very instructive for us noobs.
You're welcome!
Really great explanation and examples of tuning, this is the type of things I like to see.

Very nice. I will steal this.
Invaluable, constructive & concise demo; thanks bru.
Thank you so much for spending time on this! Super helpful breakdown of the tuning process
Best "learn how to" tune there is on TH-cam!
This helped so much in understanding PID tuning! Thanks, Skitzo!
Awesome vlog, there are so many out there who have been waiting years for this stuff!
Vlog number 3? Roll P starts at 3? Black Mesa Research facility t-shirt in video? Half Life 3 confirmed!!?
Seriously though, this video is amazingly insightful. I hope you find the time to keep sharing your knowledge as this is really well thought-out and explained.
Thanks John! This way of explaining it helps a lot, just focusing on the most important aspects!!
Awesome video Skitzo, I really wanted to get some lesson about tuning.
I like the feeling that you put in your flights, and as you say, it's a way of expressing!
Thank you for this. I have watched a lot of PID vids and this made the most sense to me
You guys rock. You and Stingy have the most informative and helpful tuning vids. You make my 6" Alien with all Kiss fc and esc's really enjoyable. Thanks for making us new guys look like we know what we're Doing! lol..
skitzo tuning experience ;) who will think, even so boring task as pid changing, can be exciting. nice!
that was amazing Johnathan!!! I finally feel confident enough to attempt my first tune now :) Seriously, appreciate all the effort and hard work you put back into the hobby. much love!!!!! stay frosty
The best pid tuning video.
Thanx man! Think i actually learned some stuff, only one thing, i was turning the sound up n down between you teaching me and the music which was loud compared to you talking. Much appreciated and keep up the good work and flyn! Thanx again man
the way you do videos is something else
Thank you! :)
Thanks I've been starting my tuning understanding. This helps a bit with the other PID understanding from the other videos I've been watching.
Awesome tutorial, very well explained. Plain and simple. I'm sure it won't be as simple when I try this tomorrow, but at least I have a plan know. Thanks man.
Thanks for taking the time and explaining it in such an easy to understand way!!! Thank you!!
Nice work mate by far the best and most inspiring tuning vid about
This is the most helpful video on TH-cam!!! Keep up the content mate!! :)
Thank U sir for your examples and suggestions... to dial a quad is not the easiest to understand, but ur explinations DID help!! Thanks man!!
One of the best videos ever made. Thanks dude!
Your approach to tuning is straightforward and easy yo understand, I love it. More importantly is your recommendation to fly to music. Next week's "Through The Goggles" is going to be the connection of FPV and music; flying is all about rhythm.....
Thank you! Best tuning video I've watched and I have watched a lot of them
