- See the extraordinary renovation of a stunning Portuguese palace! I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit the future Torel Palace Porto during its transformation from sleeping beauty to luxurious hotel. Join me to see the painstaking workmanship needed to finish a building of this quality, and to meet the owner and designer who are passionate about preserving the integrity of such heritage whilst adding luxurious comfort and contemporary touches.
This is not a sponsored video, I am just passionate about sharing the beauty of these magnificent buildings being brought back to life!

Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
In 'Sundays at the Chateau', chatelaine Stephanie answers all your questions about life in the 16th century Chateau de Lalande, in the heart of rural France ❤️
I went to Porto for work in about 1980 and it was a dreadfully run down neglected place where huge mansions were abandonned and building were almost falling down. The countryside was wonderful and the beaches in Porto are incredible and huge. Today I have friends going to move to a 5 bedroom apartment for 140,000 euros, incredible prices still. I personally love Lisbon where I went many years ago again and once more there were huge abandonned palaces and old banks and buildings lying empty. They are both wonderful cities on the sea with really welcoming people. As I walked around Lisbon I heard some music it was Fado, the Portuguese traditional music and I hunted down the source which was an old music store and the owner actually gave me 3 cd's as a gift. I visited the museum and as it was empty I was given a private tour by the conservateur who told me wonderful stories and showed me many treasures. Your vlog makes me want to go back and explore.
Even down to the book, she understands that everything should be treasured from the past and that life is in the journey. That’s why she’s creating beauty and success!
Such class your Hotel director friend, Ingrid has. You could see the same excitement in her eyes that we witness all of the time in Stephanie’s. The love of coziness, warmth, Art , literature, history, and people.
Two very classy and very passionate business women! I love it!
What a truly delightful experience! As an American I found the hotel's interpretation of what "The Americas" means absolutely fascinating!
The incredible respect for the past in how they restored the original plaster ornamentation, and the ingenious ways of installing modern mechanical without damaging the original fabric of the building!
I would love to see you do another video like this! If possible, to follow the progress from beginning to end (over the course of a few videos: before, progress and reveal). My favorite part is always to see what the "before" was!
I love Ingrids story as I love biographies..in that , like every old home, every person, every chateau to revitalize teaches us something about the past.... and ourselves.
I am so glad there are people and businesses who appreciate, restore and maintain beautiful architecture. I am glad I happened upon your channel, Stephanie, it has added even more joy and appreciation to my life. My sister was in Portugal a couple years ago and loved it so much. My husband and I are considering a trip there soon.
Their creativity, use of themes, attention to detail & ability to take guests on unexpected journeys. INSPIRATION on another level! Thank you for taking the time to share these worlds you love.
I so align with Ingrid! I started coming to Portugal in 2005. I feel In Love with Alentejo. Moved here at the height of the economic crisis in 2010 (and everyone told me I was crazy) and now, surprisingly, I live in the North! Small world.
What an amazingly clever and sympathetic introduction of modern conveniences amid faithful restoration! It's so lovely to see they are honouring the work of the original builders and decorators.
OMG !!!!! Where to start ????? Wow wow and wow wow wow. Another amazingly inspirational Isabelle. The tassles, the ginger jars, the plasterwork like lace, more intricate than any I’ve seen even in India. Just breathtaking. This vlog was a feast for the soul. I soooo want to go there. Thank you for sharing. My oh my oh my xxxxxx thanks for the joy and inspiration as always xxxxxx
I love how they don’t knock into the walls for wiring & easier access to get to then ripping into a wall, very smart! I love how your so interested in every detail truly a remarkable woman you are Stephanie!!!❤️🇨🇦
This wes wonderful to watch.
Just want to mention how good your interview technique is, as you let the lady really speak and explain her hotel's and journey in her own words. You show your genuine interest in what she is saying and what you are seeing. It gives a real feel of your experience.
Loved this and love your channel.
Think I have watched every one and am loving the new "Sunday's" editions. Thank you.
I agree to everything
Gorgeous hotels. Wow! I love that she respects the history of the building and keeps it original as possible. The bathroom cube is a great idea. I love the bottom of the picture you are sitting in front off. What is it called. Lovely❤️
At last peace and quiet been looking forward to this video and was not disappointed. By showing the raw palace first. You gain a different level of understanding. The detail work involved is pure genus from designers to craftsmen.
Pure Genius must go to bed
What a woman, what a palace, what a rare opportunity to view it! Wow!
OMG... a vlog I’ve missed
You are great when you’ve made research and then tell so vividly and charmingly with love in every detail ❤️
You are great at editing and samble a show❤️❤️❤️❤️👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻🥂🍾
OMG.........speechless. Opulence, just stunning, wow🤩❤️🤩❤️ thank you for taking us along. 🙋🏼
It’s my pleasure, it was such a joy to see those places. I’m happy you enjoyed them too!
Absolutely beautiful !
Good and bad. First the good :) it was fascinating to see the unfinished project and the interesting ways they were trying to add bathrooms without cutting up the space. The way they hid the electrical wires was great.
The Bad: the finished palace was beautiful but the celebration of colonial conquer was distasteful even if it was visually stunning.
Thank you Stephanie for taking us on your adventures 💗
Wow Stephanie! As usual, such a beautiful and educational video. Perhaps they'll invite you again once it is all finished. I seriously could watch and listen to you all day. Thank you for sharing with us. It probably takes a lot of work to put these videos together and it is even more appreciated considering we all know how busy you are. Thank you again and we haven't seen Michael Petterick in a very long time. How is he doing?
Thank you! Michael’s very well - we were just cooking up a plan to meet soon, hopefully in November. And I think he’ll be seen on ETTCDIY with us on Monday 4th November on Channel 4!
You have transported my spirit back into a realm that I dreamed of as a young girl. I am midway through all the videos you have generously shared with us and I feel a renewed sense of self. I can not find the words that could express my gratitude towards you Stephanie... but thank you...
I just discoverd this video. I'm from Porto and seeing that people from other country have so much respect for our history (and sometime know more than us) warms my heart. I dream of staying in places like this.Thank you!!
I loved this vlog Stephanie, especially hearing Ingrid speak about how she started....this hotel is just fabulous...........Donna in Toronto
Adored this. Both you ladies are inspirational. Can't wait to see how your chateau progresses. Come on everyone, watch the advertisements before each vlog ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
Stephanie, thank you. I've become a huge fan of your channel, and this is one of your best videos. I'm always so charmed by you knowledge and style in every visit, and this time you really outdid yourself with this excellent tour. i hope you'll take us back to this hotel once the renovation is complete!
Stephanie loved it, what a dream job to have. She is a
lovely lady too. I would have loved a job like that so much inspiration. Xx
I found her incredibly inspirational, imagine moving to Portugal alone to open a b&b and ending up with a string of 5-star hotels! Amazing.
Caroline, yes she did seem very nice and determined
This is how Stephanie's take on things creates followers.
WOW what a fascinating trip for this armchair traveller. Thanks so much for this great delight.
Yes Jazzy armchair travel opens up the world.
That skylight is amazingly beautiful! I would never tire of seeing it!
The mirrored wall in the bath book matches the marble in the mirror...symmetry is perfect!!
Brilliant video I really enjoyed it, especially Ingrid's story. Always fascinating to the process of renovation, thank you!
So pleased to see your video today - I missed you yesterday! (you have become quite the Sunday afternoon feature for me :-) )
Thank you for yet another fascinating interlude - its such a pleasure to see how you attend to the interesting details in your visit - as always, very comprehensive, intelligent observation and sincere interest in informing your viewers, rather than just a brief 'beauty show'. The details you highlight are so encouraging, even if we have only a small old home, rather than a chateau to look after!
Much appreciated - thank you for all the time you devite to these Vlogs.
Autumn Cottage Diarist so well put.
Hi Stephanie, what a wonderful vlog! I really enjoyed seeing the amazing renovations going on in the palaces. The skylights in both were wonderful, and particularly the first was spectacular. As an artist, I always appreciate the quality of artistry, workmanship and craftsmanship going into such restorations. I consider it a beauty that comes from the soul, and transcends time. Fine arts really bring people together through the centuries in appreciation of a creator's energies. And you in your videography are bringing it to your viewers. Thank you!
Such luxury but so few can enjoy it
What a beautiful inspirational story! I love how she got her start

I’ve watched most of your vlogs . . . this one has left me speechless. Incredible! Wonderful!
Wow, the architecture is amazing.
Thank you, thank you, Stephanie. Such a brilliant choice to take us along to see this thrilling renovation. I was formerly an Interior Designer, now an abstract (mostly) painter. Some parts of this building were so sublime that seeing it made me weep. I discovered your channel less than a week ago and I have already plowed thru most everything, all the while sorting out years of papers in my study. You and all the quirky characters in your life have made the process of clearing out so much more enjoyable. Keep them coming! Best~Lola (California)
I missed this episode as ago but glad I did. A treat to have 2 videos on a Sunday
