The beginning of the video was fascinating and I'd never seen anything about all of those very early cabinets (earliest I've played were the Battlezone and the Star Wars cabinet, though not at release), on whole enjoyed this history. It was understandable your reasoning to want to cover fps titles but the story of ID has been covered a lot of times and felt it would have been better covering more rail shooters than going over that story again.

Notable mentions that weren't included would be Operation Wolf, hugely popular at the time or early 90's titles like Starblade. The Terminator 2 Judgment Day cabinet, Alien 3 and Armageddon by SEGA. Revolution X being the only title I remember having a tie in with a musical act. Gunblade NY was very good for the time too, the movement really pulled you in and the kick to those guns. There was also Lucky and Wild which was unique due to the 2 player driving and shooting mechanic. Seem to remember Mad Dog McGree being really popular when that first arrived in the arcades. Then I guess there was Rez too, seemed like a miss with mentioning Panzer Dragoon so often.

I’ve grown up on rail shooters, games like Let’s Go Jungle, House of the Dead, Lucky and Wild, and Deadstorm pirates definitely formed my interest in arcade games. I hope Rail Shooters continue to be developed, because the experience holding the mountain weapons is unmatched compared to console video games. this video is criminally underrated, but I definitely hope it contributes to the growth of more Rail Shooters.

Rail shooters are one of my favorite genres in gaming, its likely nostalgia reasons but there's a charm to them that I can't help but enjoy. I use to scared but fasernated by them as a kid, watching older kids and teens play them. To younger me they look too tricky and fast for me to have skills like that to play them especially house of the dead. When I was like 4 or 5 I saw the demo play for HOTD 2 and thought the zombie was trying to break the screen so ran for my life and even had nightmares about it. Until years later I finally sat down to play all the games or at least the ones I could find and it helped to finally break that fear and those recurring nightmares finally went away because of it.
I played HOTD before but I guess it wasn't enough to get rid of those nightmares that would happen every once in a while. I understand rail shooters are very outdated and for good reason but overall I still love them for what they are I love HOTD and Time Crisis having this fun campy charm to it. The HOTD series feels like a B horror movies from the 80s and Time Crisis feels like a 90s comic book sprung to life.

Nice one! My pipe dream is that VR brings back rail shooters!

You made a video so comprehensive and valuable I'm a little stunned it exists, though curiously your comments at the end indicate you don't really understand rail shooters

@@NekaanaAvali The good news is that they're still alive in indie games.

it would be so cool for a main stream ip to release a rail shooter, like imagine a rail shooter horror game or last of us, maybe even combine it with a VR experience to have a fun zombie shootin time

I think most people want to move when it comes to shooter games, not being stuck on a rail for movement

I love your videos. I'm sad about the viewer ship, likely because they want more of the doc music style you did. I'm not sure. It fucking sucks.
